If anyone is still here in Parker:

The CRIT Environmental Protection Office Director has just visited the Chamber of Commerce. They have stated that trash, barrels and inner tubes are clogging the Headgate Dam. They are requiring that the items be cleaned up immediately or the Chamber could be ticketed and fined up to $5,000.

We need help. Volunteers with boats. The trash needs to be pulled from the water and placed on the beach. They (EPO) will haul it away. We've got Rich Tozer and Rich Ferber already on their way. Also, John & Cora Shuler. So that's three boats.

Debbie will be at the BlueWater beach with trash bags within 30 minutes.

FYI: They also said that next year they can be on the water during the float to pick up trash and abandoned floats.

Thanks,

Mary

Every year I pick up countless beer bottles and floats left at my house. Its unfortunate people have such little respect.

People fucking trashed the river. It was unbelievable how much cans, plastic, floats, and actually human shit I saw floating in front of our docks :thumbsdown

Its all in good fun, but the trash is a serious issue

This year we saw the worst behavior ever with the highest number of people and the lowest number registered for the event.

34 years with no major injuries and absolutely no fatalities. Several over intoxicated people, a few lacerations were seen in the ER. There was a "reported" drowning but the man was at La Paz County Park. Law enforcement "guesstimated" 10,000 in the water. I know that the area was sold out for motel rooms and other rentals.

It was bad we filled up a trash bag of shit we pulled from the water while floating. Why can't people just bring a fuckin trash bag with them. My group hauled all our shit outta there and it wasn't hard to do at all.

So what the hotels were sold out! At what price to the property owners and other people who respect the river.

I've been saying this for years. Non boating people come to Parker and trash the river. I picked up several bags of trash. Ice bags (engine killers) and tons of shit was left to float. Blue 55 gal barrels used to float shit was left to float down river. Ez ups, tubes, rubber rafts, you name it.

If you can't get volunteers to clean up next year, I think we should raise some cash and pay people to clean it up. Obviously the pigs who make the mess won't do it.

I think this year was the worst so far :skull

We have trash bags at the registration tables and really push picking up their mess, put the empties back in the cooler, etc..... But if they don't register......

EPO said they could be on the water next year to handle debris....this is the first time we've known that they could do that.

I have never done the float, nor am I looking to do it. But, I think I will plan to be there next year just to help with the clean up! It sucks that people dont care enough to manage their own trash. But, I love the area and dont want to see it trashed by those who dont!!!! :(

Just keep reminding the chamber and anyone who will listen, its not regulars that are doing it. Making more rules and regulations that affect everyone on the water wont change anything.

Sfter the float I took the kids out to look for rafts. We found 3 and picked them up, there were other boats out there as well picking up tubes as well.

The group next to us were packing there rafts up with "bottle beers" :( Not a great idea at all.

We know it's not our boating regulars or our off-roading regulars after the Parker 425 for that matter.

That bugs the shit out of me. In one day last winter, I filled two large black trash bags full of crap by just walking the length of Echo Lodge. :(

No respect for our river! :box:

I know in my area there were a reported 200 to 250 people partying on the lawns of my house and the 5 houses south of me. I had freinds go down and volutarily send more than an hour of their personal time and clean up my pad. Next year I will be there and heads will roll if I see that shit agian...at any house down there. It's bull shit that these people are not prepared for the day on the water and they think it is all the homeowners along the lower half of the river's duty to let them come on shore because they were ill prepared...BULL SHIT! The regualr Parker boat and off road community work hard to enjoy the river and spend their time there. If these maggots don't get a clue and keep disrespecting our river then these very people will stop coming and will go else where. I'm really pissed off about this and am really looking forward to being there next year to keep an eye on my stuff.

So why is this event held anyway? Dont hotels in Parker fill up on a summer weekend anyway? Who needs non boating scumbags to come clog up the river and drop their deuces in the water anyway?

down by my place it was a mess. Even saw a float with no one on it going down river about 11pm Saturday night. I scored on a bunch of tubes and goodies. Also picked up some old destroyed rafts that were in the river.

Ya pulled my neises for a tube ride downriver about 5pm, was suprised it was still so congested. Slowed down to turn around saftley, had about a group of ten asking for help to get across. Politely I mentioned i did not have the ability to help them across, then they got mouthy, I replied kindly " I see ten sets of legs, so i suggest you start kickin, you should be on the other side in no time" that didnt go over so well..oh well cant please them all!!!

i didnt do the float this year but previous years i have and have done the salt river float as well. our group is always prepared, trashbags and cans only. i personally think they should ban glass bottles from ALL lakes and rivers. if anything having a few sherrif's on jetskis or monitoring the entry points checking ice chests for bottles and giving tickets. thats what they did at the salt river.

thank you to all of you going out of your way to pickup after others. give yerself a pat on the back.

I am all for people having fun but when I hear these stories it just pisses me off... I get on my three kids if they walk by a piece of trash and not picking it up when it isn't even theirs... The last weekend (Memorial) we were in parker my 6 year old daughter told a girl that had a bottle to please stay away from the water because she didn't want to cut her feet on it... Maybe they should do some kind of wrist band? If you don't pay and register then you don't get a wrist band. Then they should patrol and those without wrist band or with bottles, etc... get tickets... I hate to say it but a bunch of dumbass people are going to ruin it for everyone... Just like the mooning of the amtrack and stuff that I went to for years... I would never normally advocate tickets but this just pisses me off!

X2!!!!!!! Last time I went to Buena Vista the only problems you have are with the sh!theads that don't have a god damn boat. Last time we were out wake boarding we come back and a mexican family of 12 or so completely took over our day use site I mean put their sh!t on our tables and everything. Instead of the park on weekends its the lake for them. Little sh!t kids unscrewed my anchor buoy and dropped the chain and were playing with the buoy on shore and parents said nothing. Had to put the boat on shore and the kids wouldn't move and the parents still didn't say anything. I snapped and started laying into them so they pretended to not speak english because I am a big white looking dude but I am part mexican, so I start ripping them up in spanish lol. I mean F'ing diapers on the ground in our site and they just leave them I mean WTF. 99% of boaters are awesome nice people its the dirt bags that don't have a boat that come to the water and absolutely just trash the place and say screw it. I say screw them.:skull

Carry on lol!!!!!

Hey Mary, I know how to boost registration.

Lower the entrance price and raise the prize money. We won the group of ten or more 3 years in a row a while back...it cost us money ($15 x 10) to win $100.

SO...why guarantee your participants to lose money? In fact why register? No reason to I can see unless there is an incentive, party/concert at the end, prize money, drink discounts at the Bluewater with registration wrist band...

IMO litterers should be ticked hard and often, it's just a sloppy way to live and 98% wouldn't do this at home.

When they register, they do get wristbands. I will take all of your comments to the "debreifing" meeting with Law Enforcement and others.

There are prizes at the end if you are registered. You can win as a floater and there is a drawing. We cut your wristband off which has your name writtten on it and call your name if drawn.

For the past two years, Bluewater has really stepped up. Especially this year. Free BBQ at the end. And there is always a DJ.

I really appreciate everyone's comments. You will be heard.

Too bad there can't be something stating you can't float unless you are registered for $5 or so. Anyone seen floating without a wristband gets a $50 fine or something maybe to put towards the cleanup of the river. Otherwise it's the same as the desert, the good honest people paying for and cleaning up after all the scum bags. Not fair as usual.:grumble:

This event is a 34-year-old fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce. It is part of their operating budget.

Law enforcement and tube float patrol boats were instructed by the CO that preference is given to those that are wearing wristbands, identifying them as official participants. Unless, of course, there is a medical emergency.

You will never be able to "shut down" the river to registered entrants only or anything of the sort. To ticket people for floating down the river in a raft is also out of line.

The trick is to make it more desirable for people to participate in the event itself. :) You do that you raise more $$ for the chamber etc..
