Saw this on FB yesterday, looks to have happened a few days ago. I launch here all the time. Can’t imagine this scenario happening to me. See it online fairly often around the country.

4wd.... worth every penny.

That’s a bummer. I’ve seen it happen twice (not at this location) both times driver just pegged a 2wd truck and down she went.

Its steep but I love launching there. I think what happens in these situations is the driver backs in and in the stress of launching pushes the e-brake down and forgets to put the truck in park and it slides in. Or the driver backs down and then pulls a little forward to adjust the boat in the water and moves the gear shifter up to park but stops at reverse by accident and it slides backwards as they step out to unhook the boat. Id bet its the being in a hurry and mistakes made that lead to these outcomes.

I have seen this first hand at this location. The one I saw the boat pulled the truck in. Never unhooked.

Just launched there on Tuesday, that scenario is always in the back of my mind, don"t rush and think all steps out twice. Lake was also very high.

i almost once did the e brake and forget to put the truck in park. was in a hurry to get out on the water.
now i take my time every time! with launch and retrieval!

Almost happened to me the one time I used this ramp
Lucky I had just the wench attached
boat would have floated away
Had I left safety chain on it was gunna pull me in
That ramp is steep as F

So beware

At Windsor I watched some guys struggling to get a 2x Ram with a tournament boat out, they had guys in the bed for weight, every time the not sober driver floored the truck he went a little further into the water, I suggested to the boat driver to engage the drive and push the truck out…. It worked

Were they launching the boat, boat in gear trying to reverse off the trailer?

Why is that other boat all the way at the water with the boat cover still on? I bet all their gear and shit are still in the vehicle too....smh
That’s what we said and of course the rangers always park right in the way.

that is the way all boaters north of the Davis dam are. ready lane is to wait your turn to get on the ramp to load coolers, put sunscreen on every single person in the group while dancing listening to music then you launch.

i thought i escaped all that be south of Davis. 3 years without someone getting ready on the ramp. but last weekend there was 2 jet boats launching at the marina getting ready at the end of the ready lane. I didn't follow them i went in the exit because i saw the kids and dog still in the trucks. as i passed they looked confused. i didnt care was launched, truck was parked and we left the marina before they launch one of the 2 boats. one of the boats was scoobydoo theme trailer and all was really weird.

Lime Saddle marina on Oroville is steeper than that.

I’ve always used an aluminum wheel chock on at least 1 wheel every time I launch.

South Shores Launch in Long Beach is steep too . . . at a really low tide you'll be backing in, then all of a sudden you start sliding down the ramp backwards due to all the algae on the slippery ramp. Talk about un-nerving !
I've slid down that ramp before until the boat floated then I finally stopped . . . talk about sketchy !
Now if I 'have' to launch there, I bring a couple 5 gallon buckets of sand.

Was skiing up river by Moonridge and saw a huge blue cloud at the Winnetou ramp then a huge white cloud.

By the time we got there 2 jet skis, trailer and truck were under. The blue cloud was the guy smoking the tires off trying to keep from sliding backwards and the white cloud was steam when he went in.

Probably 8 or 9 years ago I was at Pleasant. End of the day, mid-week in spring...empty. Tie at the dock, off-load family and go get my truck. Back down, set the brake, get in the boat and get it on the bunks. I shut it down, and as I stand up, I feel it lurch

The old Dodge parking brake decided it wasn't having any of that work thing. Truck idling, 6spd manual. Wife and kids saw how well I could still dive, and how fast I could move. I have no idea how I didn't smash my face. Cartoon looking, dive, a couple strokes and on foot. Water was just shy of the door jamb. Got in, clutched and found 2nd...

After doing the John Force thing, I shut it down part way up the ramp...and looked at my boat, laughing at me, and drifting. I backed down, set the brake with 2 feet, put the shifter in low and shut it down. Collected my thoughts, and went for a leisurely late afternoon swim.

Never launched with that truck again...

It also happen if you have the boat attached and back in too far and lift the rear wheels of the tow vehicle. Not alot will help in that situation except 4WD.

It has always scared the shit out of me and makes me think it might be a good idea to throw a wheel chalk down, but who will really take the time for that. The wife and I have a pretty good system down. She can do both jobs but mostly handles the boat driving when we put in or pull out. She has had men ask her, "can you show my wife how to do that?"

That baffles me how often folks hammer the gas when retrieving their boat. Just roll into it. I have launched my boat mostly with my 2WD half ton and it does fine. I also have launched multiple times with my motorhome.

About 6 years ago thanksgiving weekend at park Moabi at the ramp in golf carts watching ramp follies this guy pulls up in brand new Chevy crew cab with a jet ski in the bed backs down the ramp and try’s slam on the brakes to get it out try’s this does not work now he’s in about 2’ of water climbs into the and shoves it out of the truck the rear tires float and the truck goes in to about 8’ 3 hours later a tow truck driver shows up and can’t get to truck so he tells the owner he will dive for it for 600 dollars cash and no garanttee so he gets the 600 strips down to tightly whites and try’s to put a chain to avail he came out blue he was so cold they pulled it out the next morning and sent it away on tow truck

Things like this don't happen at mead or Powell because there not enough water in them.

I keep a chok in my truck. 6 cyl clutch Ram doesn’t hold on steep ramps turning motor wrong way unless you put in reverse,ya, nah. Every time I hit certain ramps I think,” I need to put a line lock on this thing”

I teach anyone who'll listen to always two foot on the ramp. Keeps it from breaking loose, and also as a safety from accidentally still being in reverse from backing down. Also, if you are sliding going down the ramp backwards, you're probably backing too fast.

When I put the LAM rock lights on the inside of my trailer facing the hull, originally I was going to connect them to my reverse light so I could see the trailer when retrieving at night but decided against having to leave the truck in reverse on the ramp for this exact reason.

why aluminum? it's what I got....... lol. I also have the cheapo rubber ones from harbor freight. I use those for blocking my
trailer when its not on the hitch of the truck.

I've volunteered to dive to attach tow chains twice now for vehicles that went under at the ramp. first time I was only 13....
good times......... gotta love what we always refered to as "The Boat Ramp Show"
