They agreed to open the state beginning August 1st. Then they required a Covid test, not the rapid test. This test results must be in your possession upon arrival and show you were tested no more than 72 hours prior. Impossible, no lab will give you a result less than 3-7 days. Now yesterday the mayor of Maui shut down the island until at least August 15th, the state may follow. They are close to going into a depression, even some food shortages, food banks are open. For those that do not know, Hawaii has always been a hand out state, it is what it is. But the current mindset is so crazy and indecisive no one can deal with this mess.

Left there on March 14th. Up until that point it was wide open.

I’ve heard similar. Mandatory 14 day quarantine in your hotel upon arrival. They are ticketing uptown $1000 for breaking quarantine. Source = relative in Honolulu

You sure seem concerned what happens in California AND Hawaii. 🤔

One of the VP's at my wife's company just went there on a business trip and he's restricted/quarantined to his apartment for 14 days - not supposed to go outside for any reason

This is not my year for good luck, our original family trip was to Italy and cruise in the Mediterranean we know that went down the shit hole.

Then I had 10 days in Maui now that’s down the toilet to.

Rent a house boat on Powell or Mead and call it a vacation.
Yes, but everything is booked solid. I made my Powell reservation in November. :)

As far as Hawaii, I usually go twice year for work. So far I haven't been this year and don't expect to go this calendar year. They are very much a welfare state and rely heavily on tourism. It is so hard to get natives to work over there it's nuts. When a crew goes over there to work we have to hire 2 or 3 locals mandatory to work on the jobsite. Definitely a sad state of affairs.

We were supposed to go to our place in Kona at least once this year, maybe twice. Need to remodel the kitchen. Not gonna happen. That state is pissing me off with their Nazi bullshit!

but I sure do miss lounging by the pool and chillin the most. 😁

Yeah, I said fuck it and not going back to that Nazi state this year. Now I have four first class round trip tickets to use elsewhere with Hawaiian Airlines.

Just got off phone with my Maui based buddy.... he verified whats been mentioned on this thread already... also gave some data.... 2 active cases presently on island.... 80% of their economy comes from tourism..... 20% unemployment..... long lines at food banks.... they've pushed re opening again from 8/1 to 8/15 now.... don't have much of a choice really as entire island relies on tourism. At present if you arrive you must quarantine and fines are $1K.... hotels have single use keys and if you rent a home and neighbors see your family headed to beach they will report you to authorities. He's loaded so they're not really effected on 5 acres...... Here's a shot I took on 3/13 before heading back to mainland home. That lucky bitch!

Here’s the most important point for traveling to Hawaii you must have a Covid test done within 72 hours of setting foot in Hawaii a rapid test does not count.

there’s no lab in the western United States that will give you results less than three days.
most are 5 to 7 days now figure one day for travel it’s an impossibility to comply with this regulation.

LOL You guys Got it a little wrong. The fine is $5k not $1k. The food bank is giving out supplies and have been for some time.

Funny thingis that the Hawaii Governor claimed that they had an agreement with CVS aweek ago and said it is not an issue to get testing within 72 hours. My friend and family are coming over yet they have not been able to get assurance that they can have tests in time. Hawaii labs just sent out a message that their testing ability has gone down from over 3k to just about 800 a day. At the height there were 30k tourists coming into the state EVERYDAY.

Hawaii Gov is starting to express the concern that they are going to start coming up short on tax collection. Wife told me of a few more companies pulling the plug and gone out of business the last couple of day. I am concerned on how bad things are going to get with the ways are being run.

I left Hawaii to come to the mainland for meetings next week. Still sucks with masks on plane. I tend to keep a drink close by and some how found my self drinking each time someone walked by me. What are the odds of that coincidence. Flew into LAX Thursday night, grabbed, A car and headed to Kingman to pick up our Jeep. Things have tightened up a little in AZ from my trip last month.

I have been able to establish “mask free zones” at the following fine establishments. In-n-out LAX, Walmart Havasu, JC Penny’s, Cutozone and Napa in Kingman.

It works like a charm except for Starbucks near Atresia in CA, When you are requested to put on a mask I ask what their corporate policy is for people with respiratory conditions. When they say that masks are needed I express concern that the company is discriminating against those people and the ADA requires that they can’t do it. All which is true and I have not told them that I had a condition. All but Starbucks have allowed me in without a mask so far. 👍

I will be on the mainland for the reminder of July. Now if they don’t open things up I might go back sooner since it will be the same BS Now or then. I just have to look Into the building permit for our RV garage and take care of a few other things.

So as usual I am a bit confused. I take it you are a resident of Hawaii and are here on mainland taking care of some stuff. When you return to Hawaii what will be the mandated protocol for re entry along the lines of quarantining and testing? Thanks.... just need some clarity if possible.

Had friend send all his employees and family to the Pasadena location after one of his employees tested positive elsewhere.

The only one that tested positive was the employee that was previously tested positive.

Results were handed out within 3 hours.

Kicker is the test is 175.00. Ouch.

Yes that’s the case you’ll be quarantine unless you get a test within three days or if you get back to Hawaii and have a test and it comes back negative then you come out of that rat hole you’re living in. A government in Hawaii is beyond liberal it’s in another solar system.

Yes, I am a resident of Hawaii. As of right now, until they open things up, anyone going into Hawaii has to do 14 days of quarantine. There are essential workers that do not have to quarantine when they return.

They have been talking about opening up things and allowing people to come in without quarantine In August. They did it back in June on my last trip. You just have to take a test. At this point they have not specified which test will be approved. Yes, those tests are expensive, aBout 200.00.

and yes, Hawaii is very liberal.

Hawaii requires a PCR test, NO lab will provide results in less than 5 days now. It is impossible to meet the 72 hour requirement, it is not matter if it is August 15, or January 15th, this standard cannot be met..... Add to that many labs will NOT accept a test unless you have symptoms of Covid, Hawaii government is lost in space. My connection goes back to 1974 surfing in Maui, traveled to the islands over 50 times, I lost count. The people will suffer.

Thanks for that..... ok, that makes sense ... I hadn't known about the essential workers element. Safe travels.

Maybe they are planning to use the saliva test that just came out? Results in 24-48hrs

Yeah we won't be traveling to Hawaii ever again. We went for our 10 year Anniversary and the second day we were there the entire hotel industry went on strike. They closed everything at our hotel including the bars and restaurants. Almost all the hotels were effected. They offered NOTHING in return. And the ignorant scum striking/protesting outside insulted us every time we walked outside. Those idiots were fighting for "one job should be enough". Yeah right one menial service job should be enough to live in HI, go phuck yourself. I hope they're all unemployed and losing their shit now. Never again.

Weird deal - I realize there is demand for the place but once people move on.... Man why tarnish your brand when tourism is really your deal. Crazy. I have been there maybe 10 times total. Big Island, Maui, Lanai, Kawaii, Oahu - I get it but at the same time can live without it.

I was born there....lived all but 3 years of my life there. I am the only one in my generation that still lives there. Everyone else moved to the mainland. I run our family business that my grandfather started back in the 60s. I have been doing it for 30 years now. I like most of you have been surprised at the continued popularity after one drama or another. I come to realize that there has always been onegroup of people that dream of coming to the islands but can’t for one reason or another. Once things get a little less costly they start coming bacK. I have seen this in at least 3 cycles of booms and busts.

Agreed.. There’s really no end game for the locals trying to keep it shut down. I talk to my guy on Oahu once a week and he thinks it’s the funniest thing he’s ever seen/ heard. They really don’t care if everything tanks.
I usually go 4-5 times a year for work. It is beautiful. Every island has something to offer. The history is pretty interesting. If it was on my dime I’d rather hang out in Newport or Havasu.

Getting to be the same way for me. I find myself having a better time off the islands. I do have to say playing tourist the last couple of months has been nice without the crowds in Waikiki or the attractions. They just opened up Pearl Harbor and Arizona Memorial.

You have a great perspective that most folks don't. My friends bought their first condo in 2010 and sold that in 2018 buying a nice home in Lahaina/ Maui on 5 acres. They've retired now and and are still a youthful 55. Its their paradise stage of life. But though they both enjoy it there neither of them truly adjusted their previous life habits to embrace the Aloha lifestyle.... at least not yet. I'm hoping for that as its only been 2 years now that they've fully retired and sold their mainland investment properties. They're asking me to move out as well.... I've got some more to do here on mainland just yet. And my thinking that I would get island fever is real. I need to slow down a bit more for a few years yet. Aloha

It's not just Hawaii. 25 States have 14 day quarantines right now or a test within 3 days. It makes traveling for work or vacation pretty much a no-go.

This 'demic blew up our anniversary trip plans on two islands so the wife rebooked it for a year later. It's cost us additional money to do so.
I personally would rather go somewhere friendlier elsewhere in the world for way less dough. Almost never have local islanders made me feel welcome there. Only the well trained tourist targeted hotels/shops/stores/eateries have, because they are supposed to .

Been in meetings all day in SoCal. Wife sent me the notice. LOL looks like another month of meetings cancelled in Hawaii. Kind of had a feeling that would happen and started the backup plan.

FYI, I have been in SoCal since yesterday AM. Been in hotel, Resturants and other businesses. Not once have I had a mask on. LOL

We did a few days there before and after a cruise that we took. Rather enjoyed it. Even the local boozers lingering around a liquor store were polite.........and very much Trump appreciaters🙂

I'm sure you brazenly scolded the hundreds of thousand protesters in May/June too. 🙄
You gonna go watch the nfl and the Washington Redtails on their new tv's with "em?
And most certainly, don't you dare to miss watching the sheeples network tv news cerebral reprogramming & cleansing..
Best to order your groceries online and get those delivered by a pink haired snowflake tweeker in their 5 week old disposable mask.
Oh, I also suggest you not go outdoors and be on the lake.....that'd be like suicide.
Sweet dreams cupcake.
