I’m looking for reputable Transmission shop in Havasu.
I have a TH 400 that is slipping in 3rd gear.
20’ Campbell V-Drive
454 BBC 600hp Champion V-Drive.
Not sure I want to pull the transmission myself or have the shop do it. Just added labor.

I don't have a Havasu rebuild recommendation but if you value your boats interior I'd plan on pulling the transmission yourself. Most transmission shops are not used to working around the interior of the vehicle... especially a white one. Dirty hands... filthy boots... tools being set down on your upholstery.

thats for sure. I would never trust a trans shop to pull the trans.

something else to consider, you MIGHT end up having to pull the engine, depending on how it was rigged. On my boat, its easier to pull the engine and trans at the same time due to how the mounts are.

Call Robinson and see who he uses.

Not much choice here. There was a place on the SS now defunct but aperenty now reopened? I've used Get-it-in gear on Acoma for a basic 47re rebuild, trans worked fine.

Definitely do the r&r yourself, regardless.

Anything other than "get it in gear"
I don't think there is anyone else here that does transmissions.. Some of the old guys that did are either dead or retired.. Maybe someone will come along and perhaps that joint on the SS will pan out to be an option, but I'm not even sure they do transmissions now, it was Advanced Transmission prior...
I literally mean ANY other shop than them!!

Prob not the best option, 98.9% of vdrives run a reverse manual valve body. I’ve never ordered one from a national rebuilder like that, but I kind of assume they would not offer that??

I'll have to get in touch with my buddy to see who he uses, he recently had a 4l60 done in town and the guys did a good job.

the manual valve body is not hard to change out with the pan dropped. If he has the technical skills to pull it from the boat, I think he would be able to figure out how to change the valve body on a th400.

Funny thing about get it.in gear, they just expanded and took over the Dane Bar space because.as he put.it, he's so busy. I've not heard a single person recommend them

Ck with Barry Ober. He has a guy in Parker i believe. A week or so ago I also met the guy that owns Turner transmission on Dover at my usual spot (Sonoran tacos) on industrial and Kiowa. After talking transmissions with him he definitely knows his shit. There is also Tony Guardalabene

yup this is kind of a do it yourself in Havasu, I've had several people make it the two blocks from one of the mentioned shops to my house only to ask is it supposed to make that noise...ugh , I have redone a few of those, fortunately t350-400's are simple and easy to fix. My best advice is to go see Darrel Robinson at Robinson Automotive and have him order you a rebuilt 400 with exchange and just swap it out yourself. you will be done in a day and have a 3yr warranty;)

I just had my tranny go out in my 99 power stroke. Bought one online got ripped off. Had a guy in Reno rebuild. It seems to work good now. At hot August nights I blew my 700r in my hot rod. Having bowtie out of Hisperia building me a new custom stage 2 4l60. Just get a training service on my 08 jeep. Looks like that one’s next. I’ve had a bad tranny summer. I had a noise in my front end and I took my rafter to Get it in Gear. He looked at it, pulled my transfer case without even talking about it to me. I googled it which I should’ve done before I went there and it was a front hub. Charge me a bunch of money or he was going to steal my truck. Put it on my credit card, but my credit card company paid him. Can’t believe he still in business.

Pull it yourself and take it to Art Carr in HB, you'll never have to mess with it again.

Bill @ Get it in gear is a complete piece of worthless crap as a person and has no clue how to work on a transmission as well. You would be better off going to Harbor Freight and buying a gear box for a cement mixer and installing that in your car/truck/boat than going to get it in gear, it would last 100x longer!!!

I forgot the mention earlier, he’s also a complete asshole. He’s usually screaming at the top of his lungs at his daughter up front or one of his employees. I was embarrassed for them when I was there picking up my trans. He’s a total piece of work, I never even went back after he ruined mine. I just wrote that 500 bucks off and ordered a new one. I didn’t feel like arguing with him, I might have gone to jail over it.

I couldn't agree more, I had him rebuild a trans for me a couple years ago. Just shy of the 350 miles on the rebuild the torque converter failed. I called them back to tell them that the converter went out and was told I was out of luck due to time. How the hell is a 2 week old converter out of warranty?!?! I was told that the time on the warranty starts from the day it was built and not installed.

WTF?!? It's a torque converter not a gallon of milk!! I get if there was abuse them wanting to get out of the warranty but the truck had 341 documented miles on the converter.

Thanks guys
Pops and I made a decision to leave upholstery in storage and pull the boat home. We will remove the trans ourselves. I called a few shops on the way home Browns Transmission (old drag racer) roughly quoted me 1200-1500$ Art Carr (out of business) aka California Performance Transmission said 2600$ for fix it.

I would be interested in knowing who your buddy used, I don’t think anybody I’ve ever talk to has anything good to say about get it in gear.🤣
