Good morning inmates. As most of you know I have a business transporting boats around the country with my fleet of trucks. Todays PSA is about the forgotten trailer tire. Unlike the rest of of the country boat owners in Calif and Az are more concerned about the look than the function. Everyone at Havasu wants a low profile wide tire to look cool but those tires are really not for long distance and not for a trailer. I have a driver right now on interstate 5 southbound in Oregon with a blowout and we can not find a matching tire at any store because they are a size that is not really for a boat trailer but more for just the look. And to top it off the manufacture code is way old. That is my mistake for not checking the date.. People your trailer tires may look good and have plenty of tread but when the tire manufacture date is too old they will come apart. even if your boat just sits in storage and goes 5 miles to the ramp and back after 3 or 4 years they are not suitable for long distance. Most boat owners spend thousands upon thousands of dollars for their boats and skip on some maintenance items because its not a shiny item that they can show off to there friends. People take care of your tires so that you don't have to worry about a tire blowing out and possibly damaging your fender at the same time.

I am working on buying a sport chassis that can handle that but for now my one ton truck I don't think it would be safe

I buy these on Amazon. Got 4 a few weeks ago. Waiting till they are in stock again and pick up some more.

$291.80. For a set of 4. Includes the chrome riveted rims, shipping, mounting, sales tax. No other fees. Show up on my porch. No hassles. Been using them for a few years and no problem. Not the best trailer tire, but far from the worst.

Some guy on River Whips had an issue with trailer tires this morning. Some trailer damage but luckily didn't flip the truck or boat.

Do you just throw away the old rims?

G load rating and don't look back.
Forget Discount tire stores they are too lazy to deal with them

G rated tires are starting to appear standard and as options on new trailers.
We're ordering a new TH and have checked the G option.
Friends run them on everything from enclosed Toyboxes, to flatbeds to horse trailers.
In the brutal heat and distances we all run, go big.

My old rims looked brand new. And the tires were not bad, just old. I sold them as spare tire and rim on Facebook marketplace for $50 a piece.

I found them on Amazon. Pretty cool to have brand new tires and rims show up, and just bolt them on.

Thank you for info!

Tire did not blow. He hit an object in road that he did not see.
He hit a tire in the road. Slammed on the brakes, swerved etc. Tires were not the problem.

Thankfully he and the family are alright. He just replaced the tires too, after a blow out on the way out to Mead for the 4th.

x2 on what redone and tpc said.

G rated and never look back. Goodyear has g614's that come with 7yr warranty from goodyear. NOT saying I would run them for 7 years but they are the best trailer tire I have ever used and I have had a blow out or two - actually 6 total. Not a singe one since I went to 14belted tires. I have E loads on truck and wont run anything lighter then that and actually want to go heavier if I can find them.

G's can run up to 110. I run mine on my 5r at 100. I'm sure I could go down to 80 but 100 seems to work nice.

What pressure do you run G's --- 100 PSI ? I'd imagine with that many plys they'd have to be as hard as bricks to reducing sidewall flexing and heat build up.
You can run them 90 to 120 psi on the sets we run.

Six new Carlisle’s, the tires that are heavily advertised as improved and up to the job all puked by the time we reached the Az triangle on the I-15.
That’s about 350 miles.

Over 20.000 miles on our G 14’s no issues what so ever.
I’ll never use E nor F nor ever smoke weed with Willie again.

Those look like they have been sitting out uncovered for while.

14 ply don’t dry out like regular trailer tires
You can run them longer.
Ours will wear out before they time out.

also a little 303 protectant a few times a year really helps them from sun damage.

That take is quite a stretch from just looking at a pic.
Nope, you’re wrong - bought from America’s the night before. Brand new.
They cook before they go flat run flat and disintegrate.

All three on that side were bad.
The right side of trailers go first we were told by the Az Leo. Our CHP friends agreed.

Was just Going by the brown look of the rubber near the bead. I'm guessing now it is more dirt/dust from pulling off the road?

The tires were so hot and cooked and deflated the Chrome caps on the lugs detached and we had to wait some time for it all to cool down before we could remove the wheels on hot asphalt on a 114f afternoon.

Also the wheel wells were damaged to the tune of $3900 to fix.
Brake magnets and related hardware grenaded.
G rated is the way to roll. Most find out the hard way.
America’s tire talked me outta 14 ply because they don’t sell them.

I never want to experience this again.

Where do you find 14 ply tires in 14 or 15in, I can't find them in less than 16in

My Carlisle’s also , was told new design when bought . To be fair , these are from end of 2011 . But from now , I’m going to car tires , nothing over 6 ply though , with the limited suspension on the boat trailers , you want some sidewall deflection.

If anyone ever needs any advise since I travel all 48 states just call me if you have any questions in regards to highways, which way to go if you are going cross country. Remember your nav may not take you the best way with a trailer. 909-285-7486

So true. There are some terrible trailer beating roads/highways out there.
