Not getting any views in the trailer thread. Anyone got a tandem axle for a 19-20 foot DeepV outboard ski boat. Any condition
No brakes is fine. Mi single axle bounces around too much. New transom with a Merc 2.5 200, needs a tandem

Can you add another axle? Or it more of a pain then starting new????

What @cofooter said. I would just add another axle if the frame is still good. Should be pretty cheap.

What’s the going price for a new tandem axle trailer that will fit a 21’r

I got a feeling it might cost as much as an the boat? 😒

Definitely just add another axle. Also a transom saver for any outboard. I don't know where you live, but in SoCal I have a couple guys that can add that axle fast and well. A new/used trailer your probably looking at $3500 or better.

I never understood the reason for a transom saver. On the water, especially with a surfacing prop, the transom is taking 20 times the beating that it does on the trailer. If the transom can’t handle that, then the boat needs work.

As one who’s had plenty of single and double axle trailers…I’ve not had the double axles be any less bouncy. Some say the dual axles track a bit better, but I haven’t had any issues with a single axle moving around either.

Get the tongue weight correct and both should be fine.

I prefer a single axle when it comes to maneuvering the thing around by hand into a garage/parking spot/etc…makes life easy.

….but it doesn’t look as cool I guess

For towing long distance on road trips, Id consider two axles a must have. That second axle has saved me more than a few times,.....

The flat tire thing certainly has its advantages with double axles, but that’s about it. Align the axle and run decent tires and that shouldn’t be a problem either.

Two axles would have two leaf springs. Mine would take in my opinion, quite a bit of work to switch because the existing vendors and steps are solid to the frame
I took some photos and my axle is actually a square tube with spindles, I guess you call them that, at the wheels. Do not have lugs, my Lugnuts screw into the hub

Axel is too far away from the weight of Transom and Motor. Looks like it’s almost in the middle of the boat/trailer rather than near the back. I’m thinking a tandem axle that sits farther back would handle the weight more appropriately especially with Leaf springs.

How’s the leaf pack, any signs of rust between the leaves, perhaps they have seized together and that’s what’s causing the rough ride.

what’s the boat weigh, any idea? Maybe the PO put newer leaf springs that were heavier than required?

My boat, owned it for 33 years
Adrenalin trailers did a full restoration about five years ago
I finished doing a full restoration of the boat this winter and in my opinion, there’s just too much weight that’s not under the axle.

I would say if your going 2 axles on whatever trailer set up you end up with, your boat is light weight and torsion axles would be a rough ride due to lack of weight. Plus you can swap shackles to change ride height, that's what I did on my bass boat trailer

I do drag my crossmembers a lot though, they only sit 5" off the pavement

Easy swap imo. Grind the steps off and put new leaf springs and axles.

Or cheap route would to put two 45lb plates in front.

Ive seen some double axle trailers come up for CHEAP on marketplace and other online sites. If you really want to go to a tandem, I'd keep an eye and grab one of those. I bet modifying a used tandem of the correct length would be WAY easier than adding an axle to yours. Unless you like cutting, grinding, and welding a lot.

True. Buying another trailer ain’t that easy. Swapping the boat and hoping the bunks fit. If it doesn’t, you gotta cut and grind anyways.

I’m not a welder/fabricator so I’d hang on until winter and just check online once a week. Something will pop up.

And if f the price is high offer half. Someone’s wife is sick of the extra trailer on the side yard.

If you’re local to Havasu or planning to be here sometime soon, I’ve got it a tandem axle trailer that might work, if you’d like to take a look, but it’s probably too long. It has a 22 foot cruiser hull on it currently. Basically, a new trailer that the boat never got finished.

Typically, outboard trailers have the axles further back. Even my STV, the axles were all the way at the back of the trailer. Kinda weird to see the single axle so far forward.

I’m actually in Havasu today, Tuesday and Wednesday. Gonna leave Wednesday about midday.

Here’s sort of a picture sorry it’s all I have in my phone.

Sorry, the mini boat is blocking the trailer, but at least you get an idea of the size and where the axles are. Give me a PM if you want to take a look.

Yeah, that trailer is way too big. I’m going to go buy Adrenalin in the morning and see what they say.
They also might know where to get one

Jet bote Competitive trailer.
Center of Front axle to center of rear axle is ~34"
Center of front axle to rear of rear tire, ~46" fender is ~3" beyond that.

Looks like the single axle could stay and add another behind it, easily.

Best trailer I had was a trail rite… the fenders/axle was all one assembly held to the channel frame with U-bolts. You could move the axle around in 15 minutes to get the tongue weight where it needed to be. It’s a shame they’re gone.

Speaking of trailers. Why is it that so few have shocks??
