Bought a new to me boat on Tuesday and trying to go to Havasu tomorrow but it looks like I have a blown out seal on these super fancy “The Vault” bearing/hub deals. Anybody know where I can get parts in the inland empire or someone who can work on this? I know Pacific Trailer has them but there parts guy is hard to get ahold of!

When I was searching for trailer parts I couldn’t find shit locally. I had to order online. I would like at actual marine shops to do it.

Call Shadow Trailer. They will have or be able to advise.

"it works better than typical bearing grease with bearing buddies!" until it doesnt and you cant get a replacement anywhere. Gotta love people who make things complicated.

Auto zone, walmart, Napa, the Home depot and Lowes carry trailer parts.

I guess they are lifetime warranty but you have to contact Vault before fixing. [emoji849]

just take it off and hammer on a bearing buddy and be done with it. Walmart has bearing buddies in stock.
I don't know why everyone says this.

I have UFP oil baths on a 2004 trailer. Have changed one inner seal, and just changed a hub a few weeks ago. I would call that virtually maintenance free besides changing the oil every few seasons. The main issue people have is towing to the ramp, and dunking them without letting them cool. Bearing buddies have the same issue.

OP Pacific Trailer has them at the best price. Rubber dead blow taps right off. Clean well, a little Ultra Black on the lip tap the new one in.

With oil bath if you loose a seal or cap while on the road you're done.... With grease the grease is still there (it might get dirty) but you can still travel thousands of miles.

If you have had no issues then keep them.... Once you start having issues change them out.. (this is what I did)

Bearing buddies have a spring that keeps the grease under a small amount of pressure...they won’t suck water unless the seals are gone, which they won’t be if you keep them greased. Greased hubs work fine...no reason to re-invent the wheel.

What he said, that and none of the shops want to touch them, its cheaper to just change them out to traditional set up with bearing buddies versus the cost of maintaining them.

I was able to get an appointment at Pacific for tomorrow morning to get it all squared away, these maintenance free units blah blah blah we’re just installed in August 2019 and are hard to find parts for and Dexter doesn’t answer their phone for Warranty anyways. Once I get through this trip with my new to me boat, I will replace all of them with bearing buddies so I or anyone can work on them.

Thanks for the input everyone

Anyone can work on them. They aren't rocket science.

I'd honestly just take it apart, clean everything up...rinse the bearings in gasoline, pack with good grease, put it all back together and run it for the weekend...let it cool before you dunk it without a bearing buddy, then fix it right later.

My company provides commercial fleet services, semi truck & trailers, but I’ll help out members on their personal trailers from time to time.

Vault bearing went out last night on the way back from the ramp. Entire hub and wheel assembly came off while I was going down the road at 55mph. Luckily I was able to find the wheel and tire on the side of the road at night. Adrenaline has me scheduled next week. I contacted Vault and they said it’s under warranty (3 years old).

Always my biggest fear while towing, loosing a hub tire wheel combo and it hurt someone. Glad you found your tire and wheel and no one was hurt.

yes sir we sure do.

Cool I’ll save your info. Most of our dry van trailer fleet is out on the road but have a few that stay local in Santa Ana as well as a handful of bobtails and day cabs.

Yea, luckily it happened about a half mile from the house on Bullhead Pkwy which doesn’t have any houses along it. Crazy part is that it was sitting on the shoulder. Not off in a ditch or in the wash. And no damage to the wheel, tire, trailer, or boat. Shitty situation, but I got lucky in that regard. Could have been worse

Torsion axles on a triple? I'm not a mechanic or a trailer expert... But it seems like there isn't any "lateral give" while making a turn. It's gotta be hell on the bearings, race and tires. Just a thought.
