So we towed home from Havasu yesterday. Got home, cleaned everything up and I was doing a walk around and noticed a trailer tire was wearing funny. Actually surprised we made it. All the other three look good. Checked all the pressures and all good. Today I got to poking around and I think I see what has happened. Extreme trailer, cracked on the frame letting the spindle bend up causing the strange wear. Pics attached, let me know what you guys think and if this has happened to anyone else what the ballpark figure for repair. Thanks in advance.

BTW in the first pic the left side is the inner side.

I would get it on stands. Grind the crack out, reweld and gusset the area. Also check all the other locations really well.

But what about getting the spindle right again. The tire is leaning by the wear marks.

It looks like the crack is on the axle side, not the frame. Is the axle welded and bolted to the frame or just bolted? The axle is definitely bent due to the tire wear. You could repair the axle by welding and aligning it. You might be able to buy just the torsion suspension parts to go into the axle tube, I would guess that this is what is bent.

I looked into having a trailer axle aligned last year and it was actually expensive, I don't remember the exact number I want to say around $200. They just chain up the axle and press on it with hydraulics, it seemed sketchy to me as the boat needs to be on the trailer.

You could drop the boat in a marina for a few days while trailer repaired. If that's a full axle spanning from side to side then the housing is bent and might be best to replace it. But If it's just a half axle then I'd cut it clear out, clean it up and reweld it square with some added gussets. And add gussets to the other ones while at it.

Axle spans fully from side to side. I’d have to look but I’m pretty sure it’s welded. Pretty sure it’s going to a shop to get done. My weekdays are 12 hour days and there’s a lot of shit to get done on the weekends for me. It is an Extreme trailer, I figured better out of them, not a bash just saying. Boat is a 27’ Eliminator Daytona.

If that's a leading axle, I wouldn't blame the manufacturer at all. Having fixed a few trailers, the lead axle gets the crap beat out of it. Curbs and islands turning left too. Better off replacing the axle. Would suck to kill a tire or two getting to the river if the alignment isn't right.

Replaced my axles at Adrenaline last year. I had the same cracks at the mount to the frame. $2k including painting them and a couple other items changed.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Have Extreme repair and add a third axle while they are at it! It will tow better and if you ever get a blowout, you can just ratchet strap the axle and keep going!

It’s the back axle, probably all the fucking potholes on Cali freeways. I want my gas tax back

The plan is to fix it right and get back on the water😎

I would use a cloth tape and measure the diameter of both sides of the worn tire. You might find that the worn side has an internal separation causing the issue. The crack in the frame might be a contributing factor or possibly a separate problem.

Would the inner side that is worn have a larger diameter I’m guessing🤔

You got an axle issue. The tire is just the place it showed. Within reason they are not that expensive. Given they are torsion, unbolt, remove, replace. Problem solved and good to go. They have advantages and I like them but they do have some weaknesses.

I’m fairly certain one or both of my torsion axles are froze. The trailer sat out in Florida for about 9 years without the boat on it. When I hit bumps I can watch the whole trailer bounce. Is it possible to just replace the ends or do I need to get new complete units.
