My friend left her purse in a near by deli, went back and it was gone. The thief has her AirPods also and we have a location on her findmy app. However she is now 500 miles away. Is there a way for me to track the AirPods on my phone and go handle business?

Can’t she just keep sending screen shots to you? They have to stay at one location long enough to get there sooner or later? If it’s around here I wanna go, off today

I think she’s sleeping now, I woke up to take a piss and saw the text from her, I want to have my act together come daylight, figured the RDP would know some tracking tricks. Ideally it would be best to have the tracking ability transferred to a LEO.

I went and explored the area where they showed up last, was near a beach trailhead and sort of over grown area. There were a few game trails I walked down to see if they led to a campsite but no avail.

Waiting to hear from her on last time stamp from when they showed up. From doing a quick read it seems that they need to be hooked up to a phone to throw the find my app a location. Couple senarios at play, either they threw the signal last one she used them which was near this location, or the theif that stole them 30 miles south of here is headed north and stopped in a cool spot and listened to some music.

Stand by…. 😂

Is she wanting the purse back or its contents?
By now it's way more likely to find just the purse, I'd think.

Nothing of real value in purse, few credit cards and some ID’s that will create a pain in the ass for a bit. This is more about the catching up to the thief and causing them some discomfort.

My understanding with AirPods--once they are reset (push the button and hold a few sec), they are no longer traceable

long story short.

I was just getting home, wife comes running out of the house, and says someone stole her ipad. She is tracking it on her phone. She said it was in her car which was unlocked. The location shows it's around the block in a garage. It's 9 at night, I head over there and pound on the door, eventually someone from behind the door asks what's up. I tell them someone in their garage stole my ipad. It's at this point my wife calls and tells me the ipad is moving down the alley, away from the house. Lady behind the door is calling the cops. I head back home to see where the tag is now. I get home and my wife tells me she found her ipad under the car seat, it was there the whole time. So I needlessly scared the shit out of a neighbor and made a fool of myself due to find my apple thing. Don't trust the location, it showed it was a couple blocks away and sometimes moving while it was right next to us in the car.

My wife about beat the crap out of my son for ditching a Jr high dance and going to a house down the street. She used the phone tracker, and it was pinging all over the place. Later she put Live360 on his phone.

Girl I know basically did the same thing, but with her lost dog. 10 at night, and she is screaming and pounding someone’s door yelling “give me my fucking dog!”

This ^^^

In my last detective position we would get these types of calls fairly often. As a basic rule we would not run out and start banging on doors. Depending on multiple factors, these devices are generally not very accurate.

Yep, daughter set her purse down in a store at UTC in SD and it had her airpods in it. She said her purse was gone so we checked the location and started hoofing it all over the mall chasing the signal and the criminal and her purse. We eventually followed the signal back to the store where she set her purse down and found her purse where she set it down, untouched... Same as you, I don't have a lot of confidence in the location function at this point.

Did a little cross check after the fact and my wife’s AirPods showed at the same location on the map, good 500 yards from where they actually are. My friends AirPods were last used in same location as my wife’s so they both pinged that location when hooked up to a phone.

Might as well have an android and some Samsung buds. You could save all those miles looking around.😆
