It's not future, it's now. The Tundra V8 went away a few years ago, the 2024 tacoma is 4 cyl turbo/4 cyl turbo hybrid only, and the 2025 4runner is the 4 cylinder turbo.

It's all fucked now.

The Tundras are eating crank bearings....toyota claims it machining debris and issued a recall to replace over 100K engines, but engines outside the recall are suffering the same fate...so we'll see.

Tacoma has been OK so far, but they've only been out for a few months.

We will not be seeing 500K miles out of these engines I don't think....which was a walk a park for the previous generation of engines if they were taken care of.

I'm a Toyota guy...was a dealer tech in the late 90s/early 2000s and they were the best engineered vehicles I ever worked on. I've always had at least 1 in my stable. I won't be buying another. Current fleet is a 2002 GM 1500HD, 2016 Tacoma (POS), and a 2023 4runner (excellent vehicle). The Tacoma is garbage and will go away as soon as I find an older one to replace it with, and future shit will be leased

I’m not up on all of it.
So I was pretty surprised when I heard this.
I just can’t imagine a tundra without a V8.
Or even a tocoma without a 6 cylinder

Dodge replaced the V8s in their 1/2 tons with a straight 6 that's lifting the head and pushing out headgaskets.

Due to CAFE standards, we reached what I feel is the end of long lasting vehicles.

As someone who had a 2013 5.7 and never had any issues, I'll say that it's a bit of a myth that the 5.7 is bulletproof.

Blown head gaskets around 200k are becoming common, water pumps leak fairly commonly, alternators are a consistent soft spot as well. There's some other stuff I think related to the radiator.

Still more stout than stuff from the big 3, but not perfect.

My 2024 v6 hybrid tundra is still humming along so far and I love the thing. Couple small warranty issues so far.

No dual turbos on anything Toyota. Just a single on the 2.4 with the turbo (called iForce), even with the hybrid drivetrain added (iForce Max).

Not bagging. So you have a 2024 tundra already with warranty issues.
I have an 08 v6 highlander with 330 k and just had to replace a water pump other than that brakes tires oil changes.
They just don’t build them like they used to.
I’m not sure why these companies are going away from what was reliable to what we have now.

I wonder if Toyota and GM have the same bearing suppliers. The new L87s have been eating main bearings with just a couple thousand miles on them.

I saw Nissan is still holding out with a V6 on their 2025 Frontier
310 HP mated to a 9 speed automatic.

I've always been a Toyota guy . . . but if I was shopping for a 'New' mid-size . . . I'd take a much closer look at that Nissan, the new Tacoma does nothing for me.

Could be worse looking . . . .

A broken volume knob and a misaligned tailgate are pretty trivial. My 2013 had a few small issues in the first couple years as well.

Tundra is twin turbo.

Yeah about my 2025 Camry. Made it 933 miles. Just some sensor but this happened on Monday and no part availability until Friday. I’m too big for a courtesy Corolla.

I'm a fan of what Toyota is doing. Four cylinder Turbos with lots of torque in their 4Runners and Taco's.. I felt that they had to do something. The older 4.0 engines are super reliable and loved by the purists but don't get great mileage by today's standards and can pull the nuts off a Hummingbird. Yeah, they've had some recalls but Toyota always figures it out.

Wife has a hemi jeep 2013. Just lost the shift solenoid pack. Not a big deal but linkage is so much better, rather than a cheap solenoid. Love her jeep though

I stand corrected. @Mr. C The Tundra is a twin.

The iForce naming confused me between the Taco and the Tundra. I thought it was the same. Explains why the Tundra has the engine metal shavings issue while the Taco doesn’t.

Why would you want to keep an old 100,000 + mile car/ truck for years and years ….
when you can buy a new one every few years

Toyota has entered a joint ventura with the shit box BMW who supplied the power train for there Supra, it haas extended farther into the power plants, Toyota has long been known as the Godfather of the Hybreed which BMW knew absolutly NOTHING about and toyota needed to get into the turbo business whom BMW is king so they entered into a agreement to exchange knowledge is what i have learned

Did you ever here how Datsun got it's name?

I guess when they came to the states to show a concept car, the importers jumped all over it . . .

I guess they were ready to place an order for 100K units . . . the Japanese were totally taken back and said . . . .

"Wow . . . we don't even have a company name yet, when did you want to take delivery"???

The importer said, "By the end of the year" !

. . . to which the Japanes replied, 'Dat Soon' ???

🤣 😆 😄 🤣😂😂😅😆😁😄🙃😉😜🤪

I'm an older Toyota fanboi
85 4runner 4wd 22re 250k- dedicated crawler (rebuilt in 1995 40k on new motor)
93 landcruiser 4wd 1FZ-FE 300k- before a total new parts rebuild (20k On new motor)
97 4 Runner 4wd 5FZ-FE 290k- New Toyota crate motor (10k on new motor)
03 4 Runner 2wd 5FZ-FE 305k documented miles- and I would drive it across the country without question today
14 Tacoma 2wd 1GR-FE 40k- sold on BAT for $25k, 2k more than paid new for (my mothers truck dealer serviced on a prepaid contract) Wish I would have kept that one.

You could not pay me to take anything later than 2014, Toyota has overbuilt every truck I listed, and they finally figured it out. the new trucks won't go as far as the fleet I own.

Sales don't drive it, the government and CAFE do, it's up to the marketing dept to convince you it's a great idea. V8 are gone for Toyota. my cousin just retired after 40 years, his exact quote is the days of old are gone, learn to find fun in todays cars.

Toyota builds good power trains, but their frames and bodies start to disintegrate after about 10 years unless you live somewhere it doesn't snow.

Toyota has the best hybrid and plug in hybrid models. I have had three, never any issues. Our company uses a Grand Highlander Hybrid, 4 cyl non turbo does fine on power. It seats 8 and gets 30 MPG on the freeway.

I leased a 2024 Tacoma and have been pretty happy with the power. Really like the truck, except the stupid auto shut off. Hit the off button most of the time, but sometime I forget.

Really? What trim level was that? We have a 2024 Taco and it doesn’t auto stop.

I personally think you have to buy new with the warranty and have a good lemon law lawyer. All new vehicles are garbage and I think at some point the lemon law laws will be putting manufacturers out of business.

I know for fact the Tundra or new turbo V6 has been failing consistently and the lemon law lawyers are marketing to owners. A neighbor hasn't had his truck for the entire time he has owned it. Worst truck he has ever had.

I'm thinking it's a good idea to always have a good old 12 valve cummins or 7.3 as a third vehicle because a new truck is going to fail at some point.

This they are all junk. Your luck of the draw has more to due with how many issues you have than manufacturer choice.

There is a reason I bought my first extended warranty this go around.

Would you rather save $1000/year on fuel or save $15K every 5 years by NOT having to replace an engine full of technology and progress? I know which saves me more money.

Nobody historically buys Toyota because they're cutting edge or fast or get the best mileage....people bought toyota because they don't have to open the hood for anything but oil changes for 200K + miles.. They were overbuilt, non-exciting brick shithouses that could handle abuse and neglect. Now that they've alienated that customer base, the loyalists...they're just an expensive Kia IMO.

I wonder what the middle east will use now?....probably Nissans and just carry spare crank position sensors.

Just sold my 2006 Tacoma. 200,000 miles zero power train issues. Reason I sold it. Frame was rusted bad in structural areas. The Truck lived in So Cal its whole life. Never saw snow or salty roads.

One of the things that separates companies is how they handle problems. Toyota has already recalled over a hundred thousand Tundra's with V-6 turbos and around 20,000 Lexus's with the same engine for full replacement engines and I'm sure more if it proves not to be debris in the oil gallies.
