Precisely what I was thinking. A fully built long travel F-150 is likely pushing the scale up near 5500 lbs, depending on the extent of it's build. What the load rating on most of the new toy haulers? Gonna have to be near 8k to hold all the normal camping stuff plus the pre-runner which would likely put the trailer gvwr near 20k. So IF one could be found to fit, those are some big weight ratings that you will likely only find on a fairly new 5th wheel toy hauler.

The weight is the real issue. This is kind of like the half tons that are rated to tow stupid weights like 12000+ lbs. Yea, its rated that high, and if you do it once in a blue moon and you are careful you can get away with it. in the real world doing it regularly and on less than perfect roads, it will not live. For this type of use, get something built specifically for this. No commercial standard toy hauler is designed this way. Purpose built toys need purpose built transportation.

Build it from scratch.
Custom. Frame on a WE will not hold up.
Purchased this from a member. Best investment made.

Rob you promised if you ever sell it, you call me first.

Extra ground clearance is key, all steel frame/walls/roof, big axles.

We are looking at upgrading our TH later this year. Will be selling out 36’ WW 3505 SLC prior. It’s 15’ to the first cabinet and fits our CanAm X3 Max no problem, remove that cabinet and it’s 17’ to the next one. Axles flipped, frame reinforced, 16” wheels with brand new 235/85r16 all ST tires, brand new brakes (every component new), 1 year old awning.

I'm looking at upgrading my toy hauler, and came across this in my search. Sun Downer Trailers. Pretty badass. ***Not my set up. Saw this picture on the website.

That's a nice rig. Too bad they couldn't find a truck that could pull it without squatting. Must be a half ton. :D

Voltage just came out with a new 5th wheel Model 4135. It has a 18ft garage.
Grand design has a 5th wheel model 398M that has a 18ft garage
I've been looking at both of those too, to do the same thing the OP is asking. Know if they will hold? Problem is, I want what I want and the wife and daughter want their bedroom and top bunk to sleep in. Me I just pass out by the fire.

Have you been in the Grand Design. Its super nice. There is a bunk above the door going in the garage.
Plus they have 4 beds in the garage. We are waiting for the Voltage to hit the lot so we can see it. Then we will pick which one we want and wait for it to go on sale. We went to one dealer and they had all their Voltages marked down 50-60%. That shows what kind of Markup are on RV's

I would either do in bed camper like a lance camper or go with a motorhome and flat bed trailer.

Not sure about the weight limits towing but you’ll need a different lic classification after so many tons, a lot of people getting popped for to heavy and out of classification with the toy haulers here in Komifornia, towing a 5th wheel trailer 15,000 lbs is the cut off....

I could be wrong, but something to check on

The mark up is ridiculous. I bought my Road Warrior with a sticker of 93k for 53k.

10001 to 15000 needs 5th Wheel endorsement, above 15k needs non commercial class A.

You are right. I am surprised I never got popped in Komifornia. The four years i was towing only a couple people knew about the license classification and yes i looked into it and 15000 requires an endorsement. Hey all they have to do is count axles.

GD is definitely a step or two above Voltage on build quality and fit and finish. I love my 2018 Voltage, havent had any big issues yet but you can tell it was put together in a hurry without full attention to detail.

Neither of those will have the weight capacity to carry a pre-runner (voltage didn't have specs listed but doubt it's much different than the GD). The GD has a cargo capacity of less that 5k which would have to include the Pre-runner, water, and all the crap packed in it. No way in hell it'll handle a pre-runner
