Thinking about getting a new toy hauler but don't want to get a newer truck I've got a 79 ford bronco with a fresh 460 built it for towing c 6 with 4 11 gears and a lift with bfg 35's . The toy haulers I've been looking at are about 23 to 25 ft weighing about 6,000 dry I just want to tow locally from havasu to the river . I know I need to get the anti sway bars and brake control to help. I'm just worried about the handling , anybody do any towing with an older bronco

Need to ck the GVCW for the bronco this will tell you much you can tow , which the weight of the bronco and gear and the weight of the trailer and gear added togetheir and as long under the GVCW you should be fine . the GVCW is on the door plate driver side or in the owners book .

I'm sure you'll have enough power.

I tow a 22 footer and it feels heavy on 3/4 ton springs. Most importantly, I'd be concerned coming down the steep hills fully loaded with the short wheel base.

I probably wouldn't do it, but good luck with that.

Are you asking if it will be legal or just if it will be possible. I think that if it is a short distance you should be fine. You just need to be cautious while towing as I'm sure you already know.

Don't even THINK about it!!!!!

Here's why...

My Durango is rated for 9k lb. So I figured I could tow my Empty toy hauler out to Warrior for some repairs (tranny was out in my old truck). Hooked up ok with the EQ bars and all that, and I got the electric brakes to work. Seemed fine on the street, but when I got on the freeway...

The semi's would just about blow me right off the road!!!!!!!!!! I was lucky I made it out there alive. 45mph in the slow lane the whole way. It was a fucking nighmare.

Short wheel base vehicle are NOT safe to tow with. I fucking found out the hard way. You don't wanna make the same mistake I did.

Go for it. I used to tow my 12k pound 28' weekend warrior with a Mercedes ML. Just let me know when you're on the road so I can stay far away. You may also want to consider making sure the beneficiaries on you life insurance policy are current. Noting worse than an ex receiving the pay out on your behalf.

BTW, this picture was a joke. As other have said your issue won't be power, it will be wheel base and brakes.

We passed this guy back in Feb. I can only guess, based on the turbines in the back ground, that he caught a cross wind and the rest is history.

Ever see a jeep towing a large trailer? They can hardly make it down the road themselves without weaving around. We tow with an F350 4 door dually. The longer the better. And your going with bumper pull, that add more squirlly over a fifth wheel style.

Thanks for the info I kinda figured it would be a little much for the bronco, we have an 06 navigator but I really don't want to use that I guess I should start looking for a older 7.3 power stroke new 6.7 are to much Money right now , if I have to get a different truck I would like. To get a 5 th wheel then

I would use the navigator before the bronco. More weight a bit longer wheel base.

I just passed an Expedition towing a small toy hauler jack kniffed and on it's side in the middle of the freeway. As was stated above, the Expedition is heavier and longer wheel base than the Bronco.

Heavier and longer is best, but that does not solve stupid or inexperienced driver. Seen way to many toy boxes being towed on the 10 pass me, when I am going 90 in my truck without a trailer.

When that trailer starts pushing you around, just stand on the throttle and yank that bitch straight.

I pulled my 21 foot eliminator with my 93 full-size Blazer all the time, never had an issue.

Some of you might remember when I posted this. The bridge is still black from the smoke.

A 3/4 ton with the 5.4 would be more than adequate. They are easier to find a much cheaper than the Powerstrokes.
