Finally got the drive swap wrapped up.

I like to be prepared if I did something wrong. If the boat takes a shit, is there anyone I could call? Boat US on Elsinore?

Thanks.

you know some toothless dude on a beat ass 94 Seadoo is going to end up rescuing you...

last time I was out there testing in the winter after my rerig, I ran to the far end of the lake by the ski channel, found the only other boat on the water. It was an old 16' Tahiti, 2 dudes sitting in it, drinking beer and listening to Britney Spears on blast.

Not that I am aware of. Fortunately for most, Elsinore is still a lake where boaters help boaters. If things go sideways, I live 1 mile from Launch Point and can drop the toon in the water if you need a tow. Provided the damn toon runs and we don't end up needing to tow two boats...LOL!

Yes, the Lake Elsinore Police Department (LEPD) has a Lake Patrol that works to keep the public safe at the lake, parks, and beaches. The Lake Patrol's responsibilities include:
  • Assisting stranded boaters: Towing boats to shore when possible
  • Working with volunteers: The Lake Elsinore Marine Search and Rescue (L.E.M.S.A.R.) is a group of volunteers who assist the Lake Patrol

I am sure when you pay to launch you will find the resource phone number or just google the LEPD.
I just copied the above off google.

Every time I've gone to Elsinore to test questionable equipment...I usually just post up somewhere and get a few guys who don't have shit to do to bring their boats out for 1/2 a day or so....If my boat was down here I'd join you. Just make sure at least someone brought a tow rope lol.

Thanks guys I appreciate the response. I’m trying to be out there at 6am and make it back to work by 8. So not trying to inconvenience anyone.

That must be new. This was about 30 years ago, I was testing my boat and the battery went dead. I have a jet boat with OT headers and barely made it out of the no wake zone. Patrol boat pulls up as I’m sitting down on the bow with the oar in my hand. The nice officer lady yells” GET THAT BOAT OF MY LAKE!” I pointed at the oar and said “That’s what I’m trying to do.”
“Well that thing is too loud!” And then they left. 🤨

Then there was another time my battery went dead, ( yes, I finally bought a charger), I’m sitting there paddling in and the only guy that stopped to help, was in a sail boat with a trolling motor like gqchris posted above. It didn’t really work too well and we almost got ran over by a guy in a big Eliminator. I just finished paddling in. Good times. 😁

It's tough to gauge because of the opaque water, but one time I died coming into the no wake zone....I sort of drifted over by a channel marker buoy and the boat just stopped. I looked over the side and couldn't see anything in the water, so I decided to get outta the boat and swim it in....in ankle deep water lol. The lake ain't that deep....bring a piece of rope with a rock tied to it to gauge the depth.

Your going to have to rely on someone else boating on the lake.

For those that say you better have tow coverage well not all lakes are served and some lakes boaters still help boaters.

I once had a boat get stuck in reverse on the opposite side of the lake and of course it was too rough to make it back in reverse as water was coming up and over the transom with the afternoon winds.

I ended up calling the folks at Lake Elsinore Marina & RV Resort at 800-328-6844, told them the situation and they called a local lake volunteer tow boat service for me…. Just as It started to seem like all hope of them following through on my behalf time-wise, off in the distance I saw a pontoon boat with a flashing yellow light heading my way to save the day.

Towed us back to ramp and he tried to decline the $ offer… we said think of it as a donation towards fuel to help the next one in need and kind of tossed it in the boat before he had the chance to head off… Maybe give the marina a quick call to see if they still know of someone that’s able to help if needed.

My lake Elsinore Tell us what happened? I met a boating celebrity story would be I was once out prop testing a bigger twin engine boat and ran out of fuel, threw out the anchor called the boat repair shop to let them know the situation, within an hour Bobby Anderson of SHOCKWAVE CUSTOM BOATS when they were still in Elsinore brought me out about 6 gallons of fuel so I could make it back to the ramp and finish the test as that was the last set of props that needed testing…. Even though that was years back, thanks again Bobby, much appreciated…🙂👍

I have boated on Smellsomemore about a dozen times over the 40+ years Ive been over 18 plus some kid years mixed in.

I have never seen a patrol boat except tied up to a dock once years ago. Fortunately I have not had to break out a paddle either.

Well was hoping to test Saturday morning. Then the boat wasnt idling right. Pulled the distributor cap and found more money to be spent. Hopefully test Sunday.

By the way, I notice you have the older tower style MSD coil. Might be worth switching to MSDs Blaster SS coil.

I really have regrets about not trying to scrap together the cash to buy that thing. Maybe i'll snag it on the next go'round
I wish it would have stayed in the RDP Family Sintax. I dont think there is a cleaner or newer SS in existence. It just needed continuous love and time I dont have with this lil one!

When you pay to launch, they give you a paper with numbers on it for who to call. Locals that live on or near the water that are part of some group. Or at least they used to. It’s been a hot minute

I just got off the phone with my Buddy. He was out last weekend staying at a friend's water front house. He said the water is pretty nasty and he was out sick the last 2 days along with his kid from possibly going in it. He said they have some floating Porta potty looking setups that actually aerate the water. They have hundreds of feet of tunes bubbling the water. My thought was so the fish don't die.

Never been to that lake. Sounded like they could use some quagga mussels to clear it up.

It’s the lowest spot in the valley. Most lakes have water in and out. Elsinore has no out. Other then full pool out. So it doesn’t get much movement to help w natural filtering. Everything else out there dumps to Elsinore.

I use to test a number of boats early in the AM at Elsinore. They did have a 'lake patrol' back then but I don't believe it's still active now. Your best bet if alone is to call 951-245-3300 which is Riverside County's Lake Elsinore Sheriff's office and they should be able to assist.

My son jet skis on Lake Smellsinore every week since no jet skis are alowed on Canyon Lake where we live. There is someone always willing to help on that lake.
Back lake behind the wake board lake is the best jet skiing in Cali!

You do know you how to verify the correct depth of the dist. Right? Make sure it's not bottoming out on the oil pump? Correct drive gear tooth engagement etc.?

And we’re back! Couple of my homies helped out. Showed me what to do and what not.

@ChrisM26 is rolling out there tomorrow also. Both of us will be testing so both better not take a shot. 🤣

Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow.
