Thank you for your service, Nico. I've always been fascinated by military and police working dogs. They are the ultimate tool, and companion. I'm currently reading No Ordinary Dog, and read Trident K9 Warriors a while back. Great reads from a guy that never reads.

@THE WIDGE, I'd like to donate in memory of Nico. What non-profits help you guys the most? Currently donating to Vested Interest in K9s and The Warrior Dog Foundation.

this is our foundation site, I know they take donation for other programs than just our K-9 unit. The phone number in the link would be best to contact to insure any donation goes to K-9 unit.

I thank all for your thoughts and prayers for Nico. He served well, he located numerous armed suspects, protected me and fellow officer, located thousands of pounds of illegal drugs, located firearms used in commission of crimes, seiezed over $1.5 million in drug proceeds, engaged the public including many student demonstrations, ect. He loved going to work and was more excited going to work than playing around w me at home, lol. True loss to our city, the public, and me as his partner. Thank you Nico for nearly 8 great years working with you bud

Damn, sorry for your loss. Losing a friend, and a partner, also a family member. In ways more time was spent with Nico than any other being. I hope you recover from this shock, and I hope you believe he'll still be with you in a lot of ways.

Rest In Peace Nico.

Take care @THE WIDGE

Sorry for your loss..
I mean this in the most respectful way. But do stations have dogs ready to go when something happens to one?
how long do you go without a dog if one passes?

we have 3 other k9 teams for our department, Nico being senior k9 in unit. Each dog is dual purpose which search for suspects and a form of detection, for us that detection is either narcotics or explosives. We have a tremendous amount of explosive k9 usage with all the events we have normally. Our unit did a bomb sweep a few months back at burbank airport for marine one when trump was in town. I took a tour of marine one as was very impressed. I oversea much of the training and usage while also running a dog. I’m hoping to get word shortly if I will be getting another dog . These dogs from various parts of Europe are extremely expensive and the initial training cost are high with all the man hours and instruction cost. City budgets are feeling a pinch with Covid and we all know the other issues going on. Our foundation has been very supportive in raising money for our program in the past.

thanks again all for the kind words, tough week this week, especially getting in my unit at home without my partner for the first time in nearly 8 years.
