so some friends of ours invited us out on their Party Cat. we roll down to big5 and pick up a baby life jacket and we are rollin. we get to the lake and first thing, the baby is pissed about wearing the life vest. then the boat fires up and he looks at me like what the fuck is going on. we cruise out of the marina and as soon as we hit the bouys my buddy nails it and that was the begginning of the end. by the time the boat is up on plane my baby is screaming bloody murder. I try as much as I can at 45mph to calm him down but no such luck. so we finally slow down and the baby calms down a bit, then we get goin again and this time the starts clawing my arm and really screaming. we then anchor up in a cove and have lunch and we are all good. by the time we ate and relaxed the afternoon winds were really blowin so we get back out on the lake and are heading into the wind but this time I though we would sit as far back as possible to help with the wind. no such luck, as soon is the boat hits 1500 rpm the screaming begins so we make it around by the marina and I ask my buddy to let us off as I dont want to traumatise the baby. I fely really bad cause they said screw it and loaded up the boat.

as soon as we hit the dock my wife looks at me and says well that was the nail in your speed boat coffin, if you want to buy another boat it better be a pontoon...:thumbsdown

any body else ever have their kid freak out on a boat?

Just consider it trial by fire..Next time he'll be used to it and he'll be telling you to nail it and go faster. He'll catch on, just don't sign on to the pontoon thing..

We had a similar issue with my nephew last year. One thing we did do is had him wear the life jacket around the house to get used to it before going out several weeks in advance which seemed to help.

As for underway it was similar as soon as we took off he was sitting in the back with my SIL and starting crying so we stopped passed him to dad in the front of the boat and he was all smiles. Next time out same thing happened dad had him in the back started crying passed him up front and all was good.

Maybe next time you guys are out try putting him in different parts of the boat to see if that changes his tude.

I wouldn't worry to much. That has happened to a few of my friends and family's kids on our boat and all of them now love going to the lake now and want to go fast 100% of the time.

First time I put the vest on my daughter at our house she freaked out. But when it was time to go on the boat she didn't make a peep. We took her out on my Schiada in Parker and she just sat still and smiled everytime I looked at her. About 15 minutes into the ride she fell asleep. She was around 7 months old at the time I believe.

my son is 8 months old, I think some of his problem was the boat is so loud. I thought it was cool. my buddy has that silent choice exhaust and with it on he would calm down a little

Ya mine makes some noise too. ;) Don't let it get to you. Keep taking him out. He'll get over it.

How were you holding him? My daughter when she was young never liked the wind blowing on her face so my wife would hold her against her chest facing her, sometimes even cover her with a wet towel if it was really hot out. As soon as the boat would take off she would be asleep and wake up as soon as we slowed down.

Mine was the same, she didn't want to try the vest on at home but she had no problems at the river. In the pontoon she likes to sit with grandpa and honk the horn. In the flatty she was grinning until we hit some chop and started head butting mom.

Never had any issues....

His first boat ride was at 3 weeks so he was probably too young to realise it sucked...lol

^ This. My 2yr old loves the idea of the boat, but not the wind in her face so much. She is more comfy facing mommy.

To build her initial stoke on the boat, I let her play in the boat whenever I'm tinkering with something, or cleaning it. I also let her wear the lifevest around the house. She thought it was cool, and now when she sees the vests, she instantly assumes we're going on the boat. She loves the boat so much that prior to leaving for the Disney cruise this past August, she was bummed to find out we weren't going on "daddy's boat". ;)

Had ours out when they were young on our 18 footer. They always dug it. Used to put them to sleep as youngsters.

Took a friend of mine's kid out out in my blown 19.

Fired it up and he screamed bloody murder. Mom and Dad said lets see if he'll tough it out. Three minutes later he's sound asleep, 45 minutes later we're back, I shut it down and he wakes up screaming. Fired up and he stopped.:D

took my son out when he was 5 months old on my brothers father in laws f-29. my son hated the life jacket. we think he didnt like it because it made him hot (it was pretty warm that day) ... once we made it out of the channel and the boat was underway, he calmed down ... he actually fell asleep for most of the ride. :thumbsup

Our daughters 1st boat ride was rough, windy and lots of chop We got back and she would not get on the boat to go again. flash forward to the next year. She decided to try it again 2 problems arose, 1st it was faster faster ( it was a friends 19 ft bayliner) 2nd when the boat stopped she had to jump off asap.. Now in the present she is a fish hope getting swim scholarship. Loves all things involving water. Its still faster and as soon as were stopped she is 1st in water.. They do get over it.

Most kids/babies respond that way. I have seen it at least 20x they will get over it.

Sierra's 1st time in the boat was just cruising the keys.. The hum of the motor pretty much puts her to sleep.. We did that a couple of times.

We took her out in the boat and she would hold her breath and turn red when the wind was hitting her in the face. Turned the seat around in the Schiada so Stacy was sitting backwards, no more problems..

Another reason why I'm liking my seating now.
