Saw this leaving Parker last weekend... nice tow rig. :D the 5th wheel contraption was beefy and the lift on the truck was crazy.

Looks like an accident looking for a place to happen!

You know twenty years ago I would of thought that was cool. Today not so much, don't get me wrong I see a lot of money, time and effort in the build. The suspension looks killer it would probably work great in a stadium or desert race.

Come on though nothing about that suspension is designed for pulling a trailer lol... Much less a fifth wheel that's mounted eight feet back from where they are designed to be mounted. I tend to agree with it looking like a accident waiting to happen.

I wonder what the chp thinks. No way your insurance will pay if something happens

Just the picture scares anyone whose been along for the ride when an imbalanced trailer and light steering on the tow vehicle happen.:yikes

Putting a lot of faith in the trailer brakes if nothing else.:thumbsdown

As long as the hitch is rated for the 7000 to 9000 lbs of tounge weight I'm OK with it. I'd rather see a dolly like this though.

Hmm. That's an interesting idea. Any idea how well this works?

Don't know anyone who has one but I've dissected over the years. Pros. No tounge weight. That's about it. Cons. 1. If the axle is castering I'd worry about speed wobble. 2. If the axle is fixed tires will get eatin up quickly. 3. Backing up with castering axle will be impossible. Idk how it connects to truck but I'd think at a single center point would be an issue. I think I'd want it connected at the ends of each frame rail. There was a company that was pushing their design a few years ago really hard. Then... poof they were gone.

There was a guy at the last RV show in Pomona that made something similar, the one we were interested in was for putting a Harley on then attaching to Jeep on the dolly receiver. The Dolly is not considered a trailer and no registration. He said wouldn't do well over 60MPH

Just like backing a farm wagon. Gotta turn your steering the opposite way than with a rear wheeled trailer. Takes some getting used to and ain't easy at first.

I'd find a way to not back anymore than I'd absolutely have to.;)

Completely different. I back doubles all day long and I have a castering tag axle. My tag goes up automatically when the truck senses reverse. Why? Because a castering axle can't be reversed on. A steering axle would cause it does what the front axle does. As for your farm Wagon and the likes thereof. They ate easy to back up. You just have to do it slow. The pintle pivot and the turntable pivot are ridged which makes things simple. I tow for a living and deal with multiple setups all day long. A farm Wagon is not a castering axle (ends of axle pivot on a solid fixed axle) it's a turntable axle. (fixed from hub to hub) a castering axle will always do what it wants to in reverse. If you try and follow it your trailer will do the opposite of what you want it to do every time. Once the castering axle kicks over the only way to straighten it is to go fwd.
