My 17 year old son wanted a JS440 so I picked one up and rebuilt the engine, bored it out and slapped it back in the ski. I saw how much fun he was having so I had to buy a 650SX for myself and a 650TS for the wife. We’re a boating family but the skis are a blast to ride. I loved them as a kid and they are just as fun now.

I’d love to buy a new ski but I can’t get over the price tag. I’ll be just fine with the early 90’s skis that we picked up. I’d also love to have a super chicken but people think that they are worth gold now.

Cleanest setup out there…..
I am with you on the Super Chicken. I have a Jet Mate and would love a Super Chicken as well, but no way will I pay what these people are asking.

I've got a 750 SS and two stand-up skis on the back burner, just waiting for time/money for rebuilds. One of the jet skis is a 550 and the other is a 650. The 650 is fairly complete and runs, but needs holes patched and a complete makeover. The 550 is missing some parts and also needs some holes patched. This is why they were "Free .99." Once I get started I may post up a thread on them. 👍

Ran into a group out slaying boys the other night. Wet jet Wednesday crew, Lake Norman, NC. Just phone pics from the boat, and didn't want to get in their way.

There was none in the network when I asked last week. Sales said they can do a dealership search and try and locate 1 to bring in. My Friend is searching and they wouldn't move forward until he shows up and sits down ready to sign. They have 6 Yamaha in overstock. That's what I am after.

When it comes time to patch holes make sure you use epoxy resins. They are smc hills and regular polyester resin will not stick or bond to the hulls.

It's funny you say this. I've already done several repairs on the 750 SS because the previous owner tried doing repairs using polyester resin likely purchased from a big box store. His shitty repairs peeled off as my wife and I were using the ski, and we damn near sank that sucker in Parker up by the damn. 🙄

We raced it back to the ramp as it was filling up with water and managed to get it onto the trailer just in time. That happened our first time using the ski.

Back to repairs..... I've gotta lay down a few really thin coats of epoxy filler over the repairs I've done on this ski, then need to figure out how I want to paint it. Like you said, I've only used epoxy because other resins don't have the same type of adhesion needed for these hulls. 👍

I'll probably start a rebuild thread when I get rolling on fixing them. I'll need some guidance because there are a lot of things I don't know about them.

The end of real jet ski racing days started when the manufacturers of personal watercraft started sponsoring the IJSBA events. That's when it became a political event and it killed the sport of racing! The sport turned into not being able to make money racing. It got to the point where you really don't even have to qualify to get an invite to the world finals what a joke! There's only one reason that the world finals is in Lake Havasu City is because the United States in foreign countries consider us as world recognition. A person can come nowadays and race the world finals when and be recognized as the world champion. And even with that win they're not going to make any money they're not even going to break even for what it cost them to do the race versus money-wise! Anybody on any given day can have a good day. When you used to have to qualify in a seven race series you would still have to be top three for that seven race series in order to get it invite for the rule finals.
Things have changed since old days. Now need to qualify / build points though out the season to be considered World Champion of WGP Series and Cup.

Like most of us river people, I started on a 440 then 550, X2, superjet, sxi pro, blah blah blah. I rode my neighbors Superjet a couple years ago and it kicked my ass. lol I hadn’t used those muscles in 20 years. But it is great exercises. I love riding still and would buy one if I had someone to motivate me to ride it. If not it will just be another dust collector that needs the carb rebuilt.

Never ridden a 1500 but I’m not opposed to riding something easier to ride
Lets do it LOL. I have been thinking about doing this for a few years now
