"you'll know when its time” My doctor said when it interrupts my sleep, it’s time! Total Knee Replacement was the best thing I ever did!

Yeah, I sleep pretty good except when I have to get up and take a leak in the middle of the night that’s creeping old age what kills me, as I am constantly moving at the shop during the day, and I find myself more often than not racing for a barstool here in there to get some relief I should’ve probably got it fixed before, but I let it go too long. The other one took longer for it to develop into something I couldn’t live with.

I am around a lot of older people all winter. Every single person that had a knee replacement has said they wished they did it sooner. Life changing for active people.

My wife agrees..... Used to be I'd have to walk slowly so that could keep up, now I'm running to keep up.

Thanks for the encouragement folks I missed my "time window" last winter then the shop is "balls to the wall", With the hip I was back to work in a week , the other knee about 2 weeks typically slows a bit after labor day really looking forward to some walking exercise . They said yesterday this will hopefully be "outpatient"

Encouraging to hear good results. I've been putting off my full replacement for over 10 yrs cuz I'm a wuss & enough horror stories of surgeries gone bad(ala JBB🥺).

Following this too, I am in this line as well, putting it off for now. Friend of mine had a bad experience with this process, apparently they put the wrong size prosthesis in him the first time, which led to the second time...no fun at all. I know it is coming the doc told me when he 'scoped my meniscus I was "about 5 years away"...that was 7 years ago...

This Young guy is Super professional very confident easy to talk to .... before I had my left knee the Surgeon I went to was a Dick would just bark at me "you need a knee" Went to Forsythe for a second opinion , took a look at the pictures and said "I can fix that" and did a partial (inner) that one was 5 years back in at 9am went home at 5:00 WALKED up my back steps

out for half a year eeek , are they anticipating complications ?

Yeah i know i can walk and do a lot of stuff quick but I don't think the more aggressive stuff is advisable for the first 6? Hard to get real answers.

They have a way of "making the prothesis " A lot has changed in the past several years
Plus they employ this "torture" machine now , carbon fiber deal infinite adjustment

My physical activity is "charging around the shop" , lifting pushing , picking up parts " off and on the fork lift and getting in and out of boats at home I do (or did) alot of outside work , mowing home projects and walking with the wife and dog . My flag football and slalom skiing are long gone anyway The chronic pain is my motivating factor

Thank you since we live out a ways , We have "visiting nurse" coming today to "take a peek" and check vitals The visiting Physical therapist in a few days ............ Last nite was an "mfkr" Im a side /belly sleeper , This new knee Has a small round device and the knee wound has tiny "drain" The device gently draws out synovial fluid/blood to reduce pressure in the new knee needless to sat its fine laying in bed watching TV but when one falls asleep the plastic tubes get wound up around a leg or arm LOL

Its a "Polar ice" cold therapy the blue wrap has capillaries , inside ethe ice chest there is a pump the pushes ice water thru the wrap . Ice is a definite requirement to reduce swelling and helps with pain relief They are about a buck and a half on amazon

Plus It keeps a spare beer cold !

I had both knees replaced last summer six weeks apart. Best decision ever but it takes a full year to COMPLETELY healed and back to normal. My wife is a Physical Therapist so the therapy was a little EXTRA. 🙄😳

Day Three Boys , I went off the precription Meds , back to Tylenol and Aleve since yesterday , a bit swollen , still using the walker for safety . Moderate discomfort. Working on my quads to get that strength back in the left leg . Visiting Nurse may come by to day , I asked her to wear a "Naughty Nurse" outfit ............ well see 😍

That’s awesome. Those pain meds can be dangerous, good on you for kicking them quickly.

Although they do help the pain, I can’t understand how people get addicted to them they make me sick, lose my appetite and just have a general malaise feeling I’d rather feel alive

I like 'em. But when it comes down to it, when the script runs out I've always been good with being done. Addiction is a motherfucker and so easy to fall into. I've watched people that just couldn't stop and it's tough.

Day 5 Boys , Ditched the awkward walker, cane only for stability but walking on my own (around the house) , Tylenol and ice only Compared to the last year pain is minimal !
Do you think the ice wrap made a difference in your pain levels?

I honestly believe the pain level feels "minor" because the pain prior was 8/9 most all the time for so long , I could get what totaled a few hundred total feet a day for the past year before I'd have to sit . Pain level today without meds (ice only) is maybe a 3 But yes the ice is a must , Only issue I'm dealing with currently thats a PITA is the drain , they want it to be less than two TBS in 24 hrs ...

I just came across this thread. I had ACL surgery and meniscus four years ago. Lost almost all my meniscus. Fast forward four years now I’m bone on bone. I was hoping for partial knee, but Doctor said no. I’m scheduled for a new knee for 1week in December. I’m having a real hard time walking because now my ankle is also Bone on bone.

Because were all an all family business (and all have our "jobs") I missed the time window a year ago and I waited far too long , believe me the day to day pain your in will be greatly diminished post TKR ,feel free to get in touch if you have any questions

Back to JBP limited duty Tuesday after my post op................... Now if I could just find where Rhonda hid my truck keys 😍

Did you get lovera pain block? Wife is hating you, she is on day 12. Insurance denied any more pain meds,(how insurance decides pain a person has is beyond me), she is full on using the Walker, damn painful, can’t lift the leg over the threshold into the house. Can barely put any weight on it. Physical Therapist can bend it 110 degrees, but she can barely move it.
We read about a few people like you and wonder if the surgeon fucked hers up?

Well, that’s good news. I just scheduled mine for December 12 today. They’re telling me because it’s my right leg. I can’t drive for a month. The rest of my body is in really good shape and I’m working out until surgery.

You're a badass. The first time I had a hemovac pulled out, I thought I was gonna faint it hurt so fucking bad. That last bit felt like a golf ball coming out.

Keep it up, you're doing great.
