Mine started around 2010.
Was sitting on the porch one night and.....boom!
The journey begins.

I got use to it and barely notice most days.
But
Last week I received a sweet head cold.
Now, it sound like two fucking Cicadas are in my ear holes.
DdiqQoeseUOWc.gif

Any new crap on market that has worked for people or am I still mostly screwed?

Thank you
FT

There is no known cure for it. It just showed up with me around my 50th birthday. Its not a problem during the day because of all of the other noises but at night in bed it drives me nuts. I run a big box fan on one side of the bed and on the night stand I have white noise machine that sounds like I am sleeping in a machine shop. Really all you can do is mask it with other sounds. Alcohol and caffeine makes it worse, and it will get really bad if I do something like go to a concert or a loud party, it irritates it apparently.

I have been through test after test, all kinds of stuff looking for a medical cause that is repairable, conclusion is nothing can be done.

I suffer from it as well. Had it for probably 10 - 15 years. Its a drag. I deal with it but as mentioned, it's annoying.

I've researched it pretty deeply due to my best friend telling me he's got it. Science has found no cure.... they're not even positive what causes it however common belief is it comes about due to sustained exposure to loud sounds. [Concerts & heavy equipment for example] Now that I know what it is I'm always shocked how many folks have it!

Heard a guy had an operation and all that happened is he lost hearing in ear operated on and still had the constant "swishing" sound in that ear. Terrible.

I have had it since I was a kid. I just thought it was normal until I was with my wife. We were camping and I was complaining how quiet it was and it make my ears ring. Now I only notice unless its super quiet or if im paying attention. like right now lol.

I also get exploding head syndrome which isn't really related, but another weird deal with hearing. Sometimes when I'm in the twilight zone between sleep/awake it will sounds like there's dynamite going off next to my head and jump scare me awake.

Actually were were had a xmas party last night I sat next to ENT doc. Talked about it for awhile. Some is caused by exposure to loud noises over time, but for the most part its just age related, it will just start one day for no real reason, and it may stop someday, nobody really can tell you otherwise.

If you concentrate on the ringing finally realize the ringing not coming from the ear itself. Like coming from another area of the head if that possible to describe. Nsaids especially excess aspirin aggravate tinnitus.

Had it for last 23 years. Concert at Troubadour. Drum kit was in front of stage and that’s where my brother and I were standing. Strangely, his ears didn’t get damaged. It’s gotten worse over the years. Sometimes it sounds like an idling 2-stroke engine. I read and research, but with no known cure, I never asked doctor.

Actually, what is disheartening about it, is the CEO of Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain reportedly committed suicide recently due to the condition after a bout with COVID (increased the ringing level). A guy who seemingly had resources to track down a cure, couldn’t get any relief. No way am I suicidal over Tinnitus, but that bit of news kind of deflated any hopes of there being something to alleviate the noise.

I deal with it in both ears. Loud car engines, concerts, bass guitar, nitro RC cars, 2 stroke dirt bikes and Banshees, and endless construction tools.

It's actually not your actual ears ringing. It's the brain, receiving no data from those areas inside the ear, thus filling the void with a buzz.

Over the years I've worked in construction, installed and load testing hundreds of large (>1 megawatt) generators, and the involvement in racing exposed me to the causes of tinnitus.

But during all that time, I religiously wore ear protection. When running at tracks like Richmond International Raceway, which used to have grandstands encircling the entire track, I would use foam earplugs combined with my team radio headset.

Despite my awareness of the issue and attempts to prevent it, I'm sitting here listening to the buzzing.

Had the annual hearing test last week. At least it gets adjusted for age (61) which happens to be the shaded area. I have it as well and restaurants are the worst. I smile and nod.

If someone says a symptom "comes and goes" or if it's "age related" that's a very good sign that there is something specific causing it, that can be fixed.

Depending on how bad it annoys you, I'd go down the rabbit hole of alternative medicine and figure it out.

First, go do a hair mineral analysis. My mineral balance in my body was so fucked up lol. Once I addressed it a lot of my symptoms went away. I was super low on calcium ( I haven't drank milk since I was a kid and don't eat enough spinach or greens so it explains it) and also super low on potassium and copper. All very important minerals for your body. I had tingling in my feet that was solved within 2e weeks, and so did my slow healing wrist injury I got from snowboarding. Feel a lot more clear-headed too.

Everything has a solution if you look hard enough!

So it's my brain ringing cause it's empty?

Seems legit. 👍🏼

100% agree with responses. Mine came out of nowhere and wasn’t really noticeable with ambient noise. I just got over a nasty head cold and was prescribed 10 days of amoxicillin 875mg and now my ears are going off. I hope this shit lessons over time.

I have it pretty bad. When I first noticed it was about the same time I started to get motion sickness. Never used to get sea sick, now I do (but only on big boats in the ocean), I can make my self sick driving my RZR and sand rail too. Been to a few doc's and they all said it's just a coincidence. Who knows.
Pretty sure mine is from music and shooting over the years.
Like Walt said, drinking makes it worse. I can get passed out drunk, but I will be wide awake in a couple of hours with the dreaded buzzing in my ears that is intensified more than usual.

I get it from time to time. It's a bummer. Loud noises DEFINATELY make it worse. I'm pretty positive that mines caused from routine high decibels exposure. I had competition stereos in all of my vehicles up to a few years ago. Now, I can't listen to the music loud or my ears are ringing for days after. They also get "plugged" a lot. Other is gun shots. Been shooting since I was a kid. Not always the greatest hearing protection.

As others have said, when there is outside noise, it's less but when it's quiet it's noticeable. So, white noise like a fan or a portable AC unit can allow me to concentrate on that noise instead of the ringing and it goes away. It's worked so far.

Just reading this and had a faint buzz this morning. Someone above suggested it's not the ear. However, just did what I normally do is put my pinky finger in my left ear [ never have the tinnitus buzz in the right ear ] and do a drilling motion that either stops the ringin or lessen it to almost no buzz. Go back about 30 yrs when I first had the buzz, had a severe cold, plugging my nose completely, stupid of me, was blowing my nose so hard that I ruptured my left ear drum. The whooshing sound was so loud , it sounded like I'm at Niagara Falls. I couldn't hear in the left ear for over a month. ENT doc said nothing he could for it, it will get better on its own. Now it comes and goes, just live with it.

We've had a lengthy Tinnitus thread on RDP before.... I kinda figured there's lots of fellas on here that work around lengthy exposures to loud sounds. After learning about how shitty this is I started thinking how I might help my ear health. I don't really have much long lasting loud music in my life, just shorter burst of loud tunes on a boat is worst I was thinking. Then one day I'm hauling ass out to Catalina Island and I thought man, thats a lot of sustained noise from the wind. I grabbed some earplugs and wow what a difference.... and I could still hear my stereo somehow through the plugs. I'm always standing up where my heads in that wind and it was incredible how much sound the plugs suppress. Wish I'd thought of that years ago!

I am mild but definitely still there.....
What I really struggle with is lack of clarity. I can't track conversations if there is much background noise. If its quiet my hearing is not too bad. Add some noise and it all just becomes a smear.

My brother has it , probably from engines etc. he had the stirrup surgery, twice. Wouldn’t believe you could do that with something as small as a splinter. He’s lost most hearing in that ear now.

Add me to the list.

The sound of silence is literally deafening.
White noise is the only thing that helps.

Started when I was 35 and they haven't stopped ringing since. I don't know of any cure. I think it's from shooting, horse power, heavy equipment, concerts, ECT. Come to think of it, I enjoy all of that stuff and will deal with the ringing to keep having fun.

I’ve had it mildly for years now. Can’t sleep without tv on now. Or at least a radio. Silence drives me crazy after a while.

Troubadour eh.... might've been worth it. In all seriousness my buddy with Tinnitus does know there have been suicides as a result. He has a great life and fights through... I can't imagine what it must be like based on his descriptions ... and he's now 52 and its worsening. He does his utmost to stay busy & active.... I think that takes his mind off it.

I have no idea when mine started. I have a white noise machine next to my bed, need to get another for traveling. It's also why I always have the tv or stereo on. I need something to balance it out.

He got me too! But it was more like 82' at the Orange Pavilion during the Standing Hampton tour. ✌️ 🤘

Well, him and everybody else.

I never knew it was an issue, I thought it was normal.

That's me too. When I was a kid I wanted to be a pilot. Then I went on a couple of Carnie rides and it was over...dreams crushed. It's so bad, even a large earthquake can throw me off a little, or a quick stop in an elevator rattles me, I literally feel like I am spinning.

Not sad about what caused it though, excessively loud music is my passion.
