I remember this, Doug Herbert grenade.

I remember this one well. I was standing behind the dragster in the other lane!

Funny thing was I was aware that something happened to Doug, but our car was on a decent pass, so I was busy watching it. Then I suddenly became aware that people around me were on the ground and some of them were bleeding (hit with pieces of the motor). Then I realized that parts were falling from the sky! Crazy indeed.

Watson Drug Store In 1899, Watson Drug opened as K.E. Watson’s, first on Glassell St., then to its present location on Chapman Avenue in Orange, CA.

Remember when all grand openings and big movie premiers put to use those leftover search lights from WWII

My Grandpa and I used to get in the truck and go hunt these down. I didn't remember doing that until right now. Thanks for the memory. Wish I could do simple fun things like this with my kids.

Wow, thanks for that post !! Back in the 50's whenever I stayed with my grandma in Long Beach, she took me to the landing.
I loved hanging out there, but most of all and what this picture instantly brought back, was how it all smelled.
Hadn't thought about the landing in over 50 years, way cool

Of course so are the pics from Perris drags and so many others, too many to mention. Thanks to you all !!

I stopped viewing this thread because initially it made me very sad, kept reminding me of the many boxes of pictures lost in the wildfire and how much I'd have enjoyed sharing on here.
How much i used to enjoy just looking and remembering.
One of those things you don't realize the importance of until your photographic history is essentially erased.
I don't like it, but the pictures in my head are growing dimmer, so I find it exciting when a faded piece of my history is suddenly revitalized and feels fresh again.
Anyway, thank you :)

Enjoyed all the pics in this post --- But recalling Melodyland Theatre, is extra special. When I was maybe a junior in high school my mom wanted to see a burlesque show and dad wasn't interested --- could be the one pictured, don't recall. What I do however vividly recall is having serious wood during the entire performance because thanks to my isle seat, it was a never ending lineup of these hot scantly dressed gals lined up next to my seat within inches of me, before they'd run down the isle and onto the stage --- :p
Then my mom and I saw Ray Charles there, best concert I ever attended :) And that even includes The Who concert in Germany.

This thread rocks

I would think a whole lot of you guys have a big smile on your face as I do going through this thread. I think I have something to say about every pic I've seen!!!:D How did we not know each other back then, especially the OC guys. Chapman College, remember when the Rams practiced there? We could walk there and watch them practice. What more do you need to say about Belisles!! White front in Anaheim, I think I spent 1/2 my childhood in there with mom. El Toro Rd, anyone else remember the racetrack, El Toro Speedway, my brothers and my first MotoX race on Friday nights. How about the "Old Canyon Rd" now the parking lot called the 91 fwy. Last but not least the Lembke's at Speed & Marine in Orange, I believe I own the last boat they built, SilverWing 2022, before they were killed, RIP. Please keep it up, this is the best thread ever on RDP for us older folks!!!

You got that right youngster, lol ;)
I just can't figure out if this thread makes me feel older, or better, since apparently I'm not the only one who can vividly recall these places :D

Lots of great memories in this thread - reminds me of smelling orange blossoms in the summer when I was a kid in Lake Forest, Wednesday nights at OCIR running my Ghia or my RD 400 in the run what you brung match races, or riding my first dirt bike (old at the time Yamaha 250) up to cooks corner and leaning on the wall while we went in hamburgers ...
