Had this discussion with some friends while drinking recently.

Who's on your short list of people you would like to hang out with around your campfire when out for a boating/camping/shooting/whatever weekend... This person doesn't have to be alive... But should be someone you would like to see drunk or high or whatever and get them talking.

No family though as it isn't interesting to the rest of us because we can't relate at all.

You also don't need to worry about them getting along, they won't be there at the same time.

Just imagine they heard a ruckus while hanging out with some buddies and just walked over with a cooler full of beer...

My list, in no order, is:

George W. Bush: I think it would be awesome to hear his perspective on the world's events since he was first elected while drinking heavily.

Justin Timberlake: What a ride he's been on. Funny, talented, lucky... I bet he's got some hilarious stories.

Will Ferrell: I'm not sure what to expect from this, but suspect he's absolutely hilarious in person.

Also-rans included Lindsey Lohan and Winston Churchill.

Lindsay Lohan? Really? That sounds like an entirely different conversation than your other choices :)

I think I need this to go sideways already...

Separate campfires with both of my grandfathers, and the girlfriend before grandma...

It's mostly just people who's accomplishments I respect deeply...

My Mom, since she has passed away

Derek Jeter, so he can tell me about all the dime pieces he has landed

I am torn between a military General during a war and a past president.

1. My Grandfather on my Mother's side. He was the son of two Swedish immigrants, a business owner and a member of many boards after retirement. An avid outdoorsman but died when I was 12 so I didn't know him as an adult.

2, My Great Grandfather on my Fathers side. He was a homesteader in Montana. He moved out there in a covered wagon and raised his family in a dugout house on the prairie. He died before I was born but I heard many stories from his daughters. (My grandmother and her sisters).

3. My Father. He passed recently and I am now realizing that I would give anything to be able to sit one more time with the man who influenced who I am more than anyone else.

My Dad- Just to have one more talk, and to hear him laugh again.

I think I'd rather talk to Tesla than Edison. Tesla was really the brains of the operation when it came to electricity, but Edison invented a ton of other shit too and rubbed elbows with the elites of the day.

Maybe I'm a dork but that's a good list right there :thumbsup

Tesla pioneered Alternating Current generation and transmission. He was also bat shit crazy. I think he, Edison, and George Westinghouse would make an interesting group.

I have no desires regarding talking to politicians, with the singular exception of Thomas Jefferson.

I would rather spend these opportunities with...

My Father.

-He left us in 1983, when I was but 22. Just a few months before his first grandson was born.
I would give all my material possessions to talk to him about his grandsons, and to let him know I still think of him daily, and miss him like he left yesterday.

-My grandfather on my Mom's side. He died long before I was born, and remains somewhat of an enigma, we don't know much about him, but what we do know is very, very intriguing.

After those two bring in Mr. Jefferson, please.

General Robert E. Lee

General Lewis Armistead

General Winfield Scott Hancock

Runners up include Churchill, Patton, Nimitz, General George Pickett, and General Joshua Chamberlain, Medal of Honor recipient for his actions on day 2 of Gettysburg with the 20th Maine at Little round top.

Actually, Joshua makes it four. :D

Recent:
My Grandfather on my Dad's side.
Reggan
Einstein

Still alive:
Don't know, that would take a little thought.

Reagan seems to be a popular choice.
I think I'd put these three together to talk politics.

George Washington
Ronald Reagan
What ever next Presidental hopeful with a half a brain (if he/she exists) see if they can listen to the other two.

If I could have another fire on the next night,

My Dad
His Dad ( I never met him, ever)
Jack Daniels. (he'll need to come to the fire with... gifts)

#1.) My father Al, died 5-5-03, not a day goes by that I don't reflect on our time together, what I would do to have another day with the greatest man I ever knew.
#2.) My Grandfather on my dad's side, he died before my dad was born, he was an orphan from Sicily, I'd love to know our Velto family's history.
#3.) My Grandfather on my mothers side, I was named after him and he was a true Italian immigrant. I learned so much from him in our short time together.
