Looks like it's been under someone's bed for a long time.

One of my customers had a large gun safe in his garage. That's not abnormal. What is, is the content. No guns!? He has guitars in there. Some belonged to famous musicians, some signed and some, like the one above, beautiful examples of antique pieces. I honestly didn't realize how valuable they were.

Did a job years ago (early 90s) for the owner of G&G Cases who makes Fenders cases. His dad started the company in the 50s and he took over. SUPER cool guy, we were building a music studio/guest house for him. He had a bunch of HIGH HIGH dollar guitars he wanted to display that his dad had given him. A bunch of one off stuff signed by BIG name musicians. He had well over $2mm in guitars and that was a LOW estimate because he didn't know how much some of the signed stuff would really fetch at auction. He had a shit ton of signed records, guitars, cases, drum sticks, you name it, all dating back to the 50s when his dad ran the company.

.., Damn… unbelieveable😳

… This Stratocaster dollar amount reminds me of a few days ago I was scrolling around and I thought it would look to see what 97 Dodge Ram Diesel 4 x 4‘s we’re going for… Check this out almost as big a shocker as that Stratocaster???…
…Maybe I should throw a decent paint job on my 97 ram… so I could tell people it’s worth $30,000🤷🏽‍♀️😇

… There was another advertised for $38,000… And another for $39,000???…

This is more my skillset, price range and will last about as long as my attention span. The greatest joy about buying one is learning how to tune it every 5 minutes. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Beautiful guitar. I'm no pro, but have watched more than my share of vids on YT about spotting fake guitars, and the decals on the headstock on this one jump out at me. I don't know enough about 65's or if this was the norm back then or maybe this is just how the decals age relative to the finish, but the discoloration does look odd... Caveat emptor.

An ex girlfriend was from Nashville, she ended up with her ex-husbands Black Les Paul Special from the sixties somehow. I was into guitars and I got to take it home and play it like it was mine for the few years we dated. She had no idea what she had!!! Had to give it back though when we broke up! Damn I miss that guitar!!!

It's still painful and uncooperative.
Still interested in following that story if in mood to share.... Dog bites are close to my heart since a tenant got bit by a pit in one of my units.

I'm no expert either, but I think it might just be the way it aged. All the hardware is definitely aged and not new. The only thing I noticed was the screws holding the string cover on the back look kind of new. Getting back to the decals, I have a 56 Fender Duo Sonic and its decals are just the words no background, so there is no yellowing, still thinking they just changed the way they do it. I'm not sure if the S/N can be used for dating, I know on mine, once the neck is removed the date is stamped on the neck in the area that mates to the body

Dang, that's awesome, I always thought the DS was a modern guitar... Must be worth a fortune? Any pics?

I'm not sure what they're worth, but in my youth I kind of made some mods so I probably devalued pretty good. Only pic I have now, it's hanging in the background.

Elderly wouldn't be selling it if it wasn't authenticated. They're big in the vintage market.
