I'm the president of the little HOA we live in and it is the most thankless job on the planet. People buy homes in these communities and don't read the CCR's and then act like they can do whatever they want because "we own the home".

Its wild to see grown ass adults kicking and screaming that they can't park on their lawns or put black bug netting across their white garages...

We are fairly loose on the rules too but every so often people push the boundaries and it leaves me scratching my head.

I cant see what the original complaint was but I am on our HOA board and I will not run again. I wanted to help maintain our greenbelt and Marina and keep costs down by doing all the electrical work, welding and any other trade I can self-perform. Well apparently according to home owners that let their grass over grow and leave their trash cans out its my fault because I must be a liberal and a Nazi and I am getting rich off of volunteering my time and tools to the neighborhood. The first year I donated about $10K worth of work. This year nothing. I am done trying to help people.

People dont understand how much work it takes to grow 55 acres of grass in the desert, keep water in 7 lakes and keep a marina dredged and working.

I'm pretty sure we rented a house on the water in there. Does the ramp have a key card? this was almost 3 years ago.

We lived in a full on HOA in Camarillo for 20 years. There were downsides for sure. But, financially it was good. Front yard planted, maintained and irrigated, nice pool and club house and your neighbor couldn’t paint their house purple. But, the best was we also received gated and locked storage, right at the end of our street. We stored various boats and travel trailers in there. We bought in 1993 and sold in 2013. The monthly dues in 2013 had become $120. Not too bad for what we got.

When we lived in Heritage Ranch up at Naci, we were in a really lose tract. We got really lucky. Heritage has something like 13 (if I remember correctly) different tracts with different sets of CCR's for each. Its kind of nice in some ways cause it allows for a wide range of properties inside the gates, and of course it comes with a pretty nice private launch ramp too. It was always funny watching and hearing the different residents in different tracts bitching about something somewhere and the only thing anyone really ever bitched about in our tract was 1 neighbor that was a hoarder. But he wasn't on my street so I didn't really care. Thought about running to get on the board, decided against it and likely glad I did.

Our CC&Rs were a bit of a joke. The management group had gotten them from another HOA. There were a number of covenants and restrictions that didn’t pertain to us. There were also items they had no intention of enforcing. Early on a buddy and I were put on Rule Enforcement. I told the Board some of these CC&Rs were not even pertinent or applicable and needed changing. I was told that would be far too expensive. So, my buddy and I quit and never attended another board meeting. Don’t know if the needed changes were ever made. That Board was a friggin’ joke.

These people would cite you for your Dreads and if there was no rule on it they would create one. ...just for you. ;)
