Going to visit my youngest son in Meridian Idaho next month, any suggestions for things to do there in December? It's about a 7 hour drive from my house, trying to decide if I should drive or fly down. December can be dicey driving from the Seattle area, but I like road trips and would be driving a Durango RT so snow / ice shouldn't be a major hurdle.

What a coincidence I’m her visiting my son this weekend. I’m at the airport right now waiting to fly out. It was a quick trip so we mostly just hung out and caught up. He bought a new project truck, 93 7.3. He already sold the camper shell. If you look in the background of the airport pic there is a group of A10 warthogs, badass plane.

Great friend moved there from Michigan. Larry says it is ok. Moved there to be close to his wife’s family. Sadly she passed a few months after they moved there. He wants us to come out. Have not been able to get excited to go visit. Hopefully you can find some fun stuff to do.

Pretty flat and boring from what I saw there.

One could go check out the nearby Lake Lowell and Snake River, but I'm not sure how much fun that would be this time of year!

I got home about an hour ago, really enjoyed seeing my youngest son again and an old friend that moved there a couple of months ago to work on the Micron Plant. Been awhile since I've taken a road trip, and I did this one solo. I was a little concerned about traveling through the passes in December, but the Durango RT handled it like a champ, it's basically a Grand Cherokee but sportier with a 3rd row seat. That said, the pass conditions were optimal.

Impressions of Meridian / Boise, it's really spread out, lots of newer construction, low rise strip malls, big master planned communities like Sacramento used to be in the late 80's or the only time I drove through the AZ on the way to buy my Eliminator in Mesa 10+ years ago. Seemed like everything was new and there was a ton of new construction in progress.

Meridian is really flat and dry, as it was December it was kind of cold, mid 20's but low humidity, didn't feel that cold though. The thing that I found odd was the fog, lots of that when coming out of Oregon, along with the below freezing temps the minimal amount of vegetation was frosted.

The people we interacted with were cordial, just like WA or CA as alot of them were from these states. I didn't see a single Tesla and only 1 Prius, in my neck of the woods about 1/3 of the vehicles on the road are Tessla's so that was refreshing!

I liked the area, it's growing fast, lots of amenities, and that Micron plant is HUGE!. I took a bunch of photos of it and did a little research; it will provide financial stability to that town as well as Boise for a long time. I've been thinking about bailing out of WA State when I retire but havent put much effort in to investigating where I would like to move to. A lot of the guys I work with are planning to move to Idaho or Montana when they retire from the union trades, I now see why. Meridian / Boise are now on my radar.

On the southeastern edge of Oregon Wind Mils are a thing, saw several of these rigs staged on the side of the highway. This one was on the highway transporting it to the wind mill reservation.

Random photos of the Village in Meridian Idaho, took my son there for dinner. It was really upscale with lots of upper end shops, restaurants and bars.

Gasoline costs about 4.00 a gallon in western WA. Anecortez WA has the refinery that the refines the crude oil to gas for a lot of the west coast. This is what a gallon of gas costs in Idaho as of a couple of days ago from Chevron.

Maybe I'm out of touch, but I thought the fuel economy of the Durango RT was decent. The trip went from sea level to 3500ft+ above sea level several times, lots of wind, ice, slowing down for fog, idling a lot once in Idaho, then hauling ass back home. I was doing well over 90 sometimes and tried to stay above 70MPH the entire trip. I hand calculated the DIC fuel economy and it was within 1 MPG. I was hoping for 24 MPG initially, I am impressed by what the Durango delivered considering the elevation changes, icy conditions, and the all wheel drive factor.

Couple of random things I saw on the way home in southern Oregon, several huge roadkill deer and 3 female wild turkeys pecking at stuff on the shoulder in the snow on Deadmans Pass. Didn't have time to get a photo, but not something you would normally see in my home state.

Some random pics of the Micron jobsite...it is massive! I thought the Microsoft Campus Refresh project I worked on was huge. 74 acres and 6.5 billion... it pales in comparison to this thing. My sister's ex-husband is working there and gave me some insight.

I don't agree with much the Biden administration has done, but this micro chip plant is a direct result of the chips act. It is fucking massive, I would guess its campus is a several square miles with hundreds of buildings at its completion. The yellow iron holding area was like a CAT manufacturing plant. The construction project is planned to be ongoing for more than 10 years and total completion in about 20 years. If you're looking to invest in property and haven't heard about this place, you should look into it.
