So both VW and Audi...

You can either fix your car and keep it or have it bought back at some form of used car value before the "issue" came into public view and dropped their value then appraised for condition before the owners final value is calculated. This will get good no doubt, sounds like a decent fucking on the way.

Also said that there "could be" a $5,000-$10,000 cash payout but does not specify what or how an owner gets that money (possibly if they keep the car and fix it, and or time involved). It was mentioned that this money is part of the money already sent to owners so what is reality here remains to be seen. This dismisses all individual lawsuits so those owners could be out attorney fees.

Anyone else know more?

I don't own one but am a huge Diesel fan and this deal sure messes up owning Diesels, we just don't know to what extent yet.

Just like AT&T's unlimited data settlement the plaintiff's in these situations always get the shaft.

The 3.0 V6 issue is still in court.

25,000 early 3.0 TDI's aren't even able to be fixed, and must be bought back, according to Der Spiegel, a German news outlet. It's been reported here as well, but everyone is referencing the German news source so probably not yet official.

There's no approved fix for 2.0L cars or newer 3.0L cars that I'm aware of at this time, but the buyback takes the value of the cars pre-scandal and adds another $5k - $10k on top of that.

Even shittier, the buyback is time scheduled, so if your car gets totaled before your buyback date, you are fucked, different value. A bury a body buddy said their date is still a couple weeks away. They bought another car a couple months ago and put the VW in storage.

So both VW and Audi...

Buddy has one. With the buy back his cost of putting 110,000 on it is 5 grand.

I'd do the same

I will be getting $28500 from them for my 2014 jetta wagon. That is more than I paid for the car. I love the car but if they will buy it back for that kind of money I will use it for 3 years for free.

IMHO, sentimentality of "I love my car" aside...these buyback offers are too good to pass-up from a financial perspective.

Who else will offer you far more money than the car is actually worth?

Take the money and run, you own a depreciating asset.

If the 3.0 can't be fixed....that must mean that is one bad ass mofo from VW in its current form [emoji3][emoji108]

I'm not privy to any info but I'd say most people will eventually be satisfied monetarily....as evident in this thread itself.
Total cluster and I'm sure many people will get frustrated during the process.

I agree we have a Q7 and it will outrun a stock Raptor and get double the mpg doing it.

What years does this deal cover?
Is Browns Golf covered in it? If so he must have a chubby so long it tickles Nova Scotia.

Brown owns VW. All his acting like he is poor routine is just to get used to living after he pays the Billions in fines.

Part of Volkswagen’s $14.7 billion Dieselgate settlement requires the company to offer buybacks to nearly half a million owners whose cars cheated emissions tests. But that settlement does not stipulate that those bought-back cars have to be in good shape, so some owners are stripping their vehicles down.

According to the buyback terms specified in the EPA’s Consent Decree, the only requirement related to vehicle condition is that the car has to be “operable,” a word defined by the court as:

“Operable” means that a vehicle so described can be driven under its own 2.0-liter TDI engine power. A vehicle is not Operable if it had a branded title of “Assembled,” “Dismantled,” “Flood,” “Junk,” “Rebuilt,” “Reconstructed,” or “Salvaged” as of September 18, 2015, and was acquired by any person or entity from a junkyard or salvaged after September 18, 2015.
Operable could mean a lot of things.

I called Volkswagen’s settlement hotline, and the representative told me the same thing. Basically, it seems like you can strip every damn part off of your Volkswagen TDI and still get your buyback money, as long as the car can still drive under its own power.

Quite a few Volkswagen owners, many of whom I’d place squarely in the “disgruntled” category, see this as an opportunity to get back at Volkswagen by turning in a fully-gutted shitbox, while others just see it as a way to make some extra cash.

You’ll find threads from TDI owners all over the internet, from Reddit to the TDI Owners Club, about this topic. There are threads like “Will anyone be stripping salvaging parts before selling back?,” “Has anyone returned a stripped TDI yet?,” “Stripping the Turn Ins,” and “Cannibalizing TDI,” all of which eventually turn into discussions on ethics, since VW is compensating owners handsomely, and stripping a vehicle would theoretically make it more difficult for the company to sell the cars if they eventually devise a fix.

Owners in these threads have discussed removing mirrors, jacks, headlights, floor mats, visors, radios, seats, and all sorts of other easily-pulled parts. Then there are people like rotts4u, a member of the TDI Club Forum, who got a bit more imaginative, saying:

Carpet, airbags, battery if yours is better/newer, drain the oil and replace it with even more used oil drain the coolant and replace it with water from the storm drain, empty the fuel tank, DEF tank, take off the glove box door, the inner door panels I guess you could pull the steering wheel and just clamp a vise grip on the stem to drive it to the dealer, pull the air filter oil filter, drain most of the brake fluid, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid,, spare tire, jack, first aid kit, maybe even the trunk deck could come off and meet the rules, who know can you drive legally without doors?
To be sure, most people seem happy with their buyback offer, and at most, they remove a few aftermarket parts they installed and a floor mat or two.

But some of them actually have stripped their cars down, like Reddit-user Tacoboutnachos, who turned in a total junker after literally stripping his Golf’s front fascia off

My coworker just showed me his settlement on a Jetta. Payed $27,000 5 years ago and they are paying him $19,#!%. He loves the car, but is stoked. It's not often that you buy a new car off the lot, drive it around for 5 years and only lose $8,000.

I'd buy another VW to support the company if it was me.

Here's something to consider:
This settlement is an order of magnitude more than BP's Deepwater fine, and Exxon Valdez, combined.

Which did more to harm the environment?

the other side of that, this was deliberate and took lots of effort to complete.

I wonder how much of the monetary fine will end up funding democrat-favorite "community organizations" , which is where banking fines go?

I got my final settlement offer today. 27700 and it is good until 2018. I will get that amount as long as I don't put more than 12500 mile per year on the car.

The offer on my Jetta is $15k and some change. I paid $16 for the car about 6 months before dieselgate broke.
My intent is to put another 100k miles on the car, essentially on VWs dime, between now and October 2018. The additional miles only reduce the settlement by a few hundred dollars.
