I hated riding these things in the 80's. Every time I hopped on a buddies 3 wheeler I wound up face down with a Indian burned calf and torn up riding pants. I couldn't imagine riding this thing. It looks cool though.

ROFL. $9500? Guy is insane.

That said, I have owned several of them, one brand new in 86 and 2 more, an 85 and another 86. Most fun on three wheels for sure!

I guess they could be that rare since they only made them for 2 years....but 9500?!?! You could buy a plated KTM525EX for that.

Always kept an 85' 250r for our booze cruise night rides at Glamis and it never failed me. I used to ride it on all the trails around Havasu with my kids when they were little and Rhinos were becoming the thing but stuff started to get more rutted. It would be real tough now with all the 32" SXS tires.

His wife wants him to sell it.
He doesn’t want to see it go.

That’s the only rational explanation.

I bought a 350x new in 86 and my brother still has it. Great bike loved riding that thing and still do. I actually just sold recently a 2001 cr500 and got great money for it. 4k cash, must be the nostalgia or something, I don't know but I hated to see it go. I had not ridden it in a few years since I bought an offroad car, figured someone could have fun with it. Guess I'm getting old. Lol

I had a 250x. (Auto clutch) when I was like 6.. lol. Also had several other bikes. The 200X was always in a wish list because my friends had them (manual clutch)

I got a warrior when I was 12/13.. you can buy those all day long for cheap. I sold mine to riverratmike’s relative after a sob story for 750.00. I’m not sure what drives the 9500?

I'm not seeing whats worth $9500. Looks like stock engine/exhaust. It is Orcas Island though, every thing is spendy in that neighborhood;) I had a '86 350x and still have a '85 250R.

It might be because this one is street legal, probably through an error or loophole.

Back in the 80's there was a bunch if us from work that would ride out standard wash. The president of McCulloch was airlifted out of standard wash from rolling his 225. Funny, when it roles the foot peg tends to inplant into your groin and expose your femoral artery :0.

LOL I Bought the bike on the cheap from him when he got out of the hospital.

have some great memories of them from elementary and high school. I would dearly love to find a clean 250R. I think I could almost talk the wife into it. Of course the next step on that ladder is to see just how much power I could squeeze out of it......

That last part is probably what would get me into trouble.

I had an 85 350x with an XL600 stuffed in it. swing arm extended 12" over stock widened axle with a fat set of Scat Trak Haulers on it. Thing was fun......as long as you going in a straight line :)

HRC made a pretty neat 300 cylinder and piston kit for the 250. Not too much trouble really.

Edit... by the way, Inland ATV in Redlands had one for sale in March when I was there. I want to say it was $2,500ish? Already equipped with the aforementioned 300 kit;)

Those old three wheeler days were a ton of fun. Mid 80's, when the 250r's were the hot item, I built the YZ490 in my dad's garage. I could only get a handfull of races up Oldsmobile Hill and it got hot. So '87 or so the CR500 hit the dunes. These were wild rides back then. In the picture, they both have struts in place of the rear shocks to lower them a bit because we were at the sand drags that day.

I'm right there with you brotha! I grew up riding and racing dirt bikes. They fist time I jumped on one of these I instinctively put my foot down in a corner and promptly ran over my calf. After a lifetime of 2 wheels, even the quads still feel weird to me.

Rode those things for a long long time...from the 185 to racing them at indian dunes with a 250R then with a 300 kit then went really hog wild with it and added every mod I could find......crashed a few good times ate up a few calves, cracked two helmets and had nothing but fun...scariest part was when going up a huge hill and lost it and the dam things would chase you down the hill lol lol.. WOW what timing on this threat, last week I decided to go through the garage and get rid of a lot of stuff I would not be using and I found my old Bell Helmet, my honda gloves and my leathers and boots, and a few parts that I kept forever...threw them all out..

had a 200 x for the wife. All I remembered was DON'T PUT YOUR FEET DOWN

I was riding with a large group in the Ocotilo Wells Offroad Area, North of Ocotillo Wells, West of the Pole Line Road. Out in the middle of nowhere. 16 year old kid in front of me was on one of these. He was fucn around trying to get onto two wheels. Went a little to far and put his foot down. It was ugly, snapped his lower leg in half. They had to helicopter him out.

This is how I kept from breaking ankles ...

What we called a 200F - it will go off road or flat track

Vintage 84ish

What did you have to do to fit a cr500 engine into an 85/86 atc250r frame or was it a cr500 dirt bike frame converted into a 3 wheeler?
It was built with the stock frame.Vibration kills a 250r frame.

I've ridden a few 500's as well, both stock frame and atc frame.. Didn't like them either way but I think it was because of the gear box more than anything else. Yes. vibration kills the fun out of them. My buddy had a CR500 dirt bike, setup with a longer swinger and a paddle tire, for the dunes and that was a ton of fun to ride:D Here's a pic of mine, only 250cc but a blast to ride.
