This is crazy. Opening your event by replacing Jesus and the disciples at the The Last Supper with men in drag. There are 2.4 billion Christians on earth and apparently the Olympics wanted to declare loudly to all of them, right out of the gate NOT WELCOME

I'm not a fake Christian, but in my case it is more disgust than outrage. Outrage may also be defined as a "hateful resentment" or even a "violent reaction" fueled by anger and vengeance...
Maybe some should feel relieved in their safe spaces that the later is not currently the case.

Those who feel exposing their genitals to children is a good thing, should also be prepared for the castration that follows.
I may be a Christian, but may not be a "good" Christian. "Right" may not always be condoned by the law...

Some of you probably didn't watch the video Chill posted, just because he posted it. The video is pretty spot on with how I feel. The opening ceremonies were artistic crap, like many of the big events are. I feel it was to push an agenda. That said, the reason to watch the games, for me, has never been about the ceremonial stuff. It had always been about the athletes. Those people have worked their asses off for years. This may be their first, their last or their only chance to go. I'll still watch some events, as I always did. If some companies want to pull sponsorship, that's their decision. If people don't want to watch, also theirs. The host country is who sets up the ceremonies, not the athletes. I was actually pretty happy the IOC didn't cave to pressure, and kept males out of female competition. What the French do however, is not always a reflection of those on the fields.

This is Thomas Jolly backing down. He's an activist, and also an artist. Saying this is a nod to pagan celebrations, then naming a male Greek god, is a bit contradictory in and of itself. Then one can parse the angelic halo, which is most notably a mix of what's known as a "Fra Angelico" from the mid-14th century and "Dore" depiction from the 15th and 16th centuries. These were centuries after the Greeks. Anyone who's studied art, or theology, would know these things.

The angelic halo depiction was not something ever used in Greek mythology, though some try to equate the laurel or olive wreath worn as such.

I spent lots of time reading. At one point in my life, I really wanted to teach history. I still really like to learn about things dealing with history, religion and culture. Lately, due to current events, that has been more focused on early European stuff. Stuff like Sweden invaded Russia 8 times during the 16 and 1700's, and the Byzantines once had control all the way to the south of Italy. A lot of stuff they may talk about in college history classes, but never on job sites.

So you're saying that Jolly was randomly picking icons out of different times and locations to creat a sort of mixed metafor that has no real meaning ? Except to him of course. Still, don't think it's at all like a last supper murale ?

Artists who participated in the parody sketch at the heart of mounting controversy over the opening ceremony to the Paris Olympics have confirmed that the performance was intended to imitate Leonardo da Vinci’s famed painting of the Last Supper.

The confirmation was made in online social media posts and in comments to the press, and goes against the explanation offered by the Paris Olympics’ organising committee that the controversial scene was an “interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus [that] makes us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings”.

The French drag queen and rapper known as Piche from the show Drag Race France spoke to French media, saying the intention was to create a tableau of the Last Supper.

“I received a lot of messages of support and people who were very happy that I was there and very surprised that there were drag queens at the opening ceremony,” he said, adding the opposition to the performance indicates that “we’ve succeeded and we’ve done what had to be done, that we’ve been fair and representative”.

“Art always divides. As long as it doesn’t move people, it’s not art for me,” he said, arguing that the parody of the Last Supper “is not a provocation” as “it’s a biblical representation that has been reused in pop culture for decades and it’s never really been a problem”.

“There were no real provocations or anything that was truly obscene. We didn’t make fun of the painting at all…it’s really just because it’s queers and drag queens who use that representation that it bothers,” he said.

Similarly, Barbara Butch, a lesbian who donned a silver aureole halo crown headdress and low-cut dress while portraying the figure of Jesus in the Last Supper sketch, said the opening ceremony was intended to bring people together.

According to her Instagram profile, Butch is “a Love activist, Dj and producer based in Paris. My aim is to unite people, gather humans & share love through music for all of Us to dance & make our hearts beat (in unison)! Music sounds better with all of Us!”

Butch posted a screenshot image of her performance in the Last Supper parody above an image of Da Vinci’s original painting to her Instagram account with the comment, “Oh yes! Oh yes! The new gay testament!”

The post was subsequently deleted.

IMO & FWIW.....
The opening ceremony set the stage for the 2024 Olympics. This "ceremony" intentionally mocked and disgraced my God, my Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost and the associated teachings and values of life that my family and I hold so dear.......

Yes, I have enjoyed the Olympics games of the past,....... cheering for the USA is a feeling second only to one other.....so YES, I will boycott this years Olympics and I will not watch one minute. Here's why, ......if I did choose to participate by watching, I would be adding to the viewership numbers .......and I would be rewarding those who are supporting/financing those who have mocked and disgraced my God and Savior ........ Sorry for those of you who do not understand, but I place more value in my relationship with God vs supporting those who strive to diminish, degrade and denounce my God......they are in fact, my enemy. It's way past time we as a Nation re-establish our priorities and put God first in our lives........ Otherwise......evil will be allowed to dominate and prosper., and I do not find that as an acceptable option.

Not at all! What I'm saying is Jolly knew full well he was mocking the last supper. I'm also saying he needs to borrow some balls from the tranny, because now he's backing down trying to explain it away. If he meant to make a statement, follow through with it if you believe in it.
