Man, those new 500’s are huge. Bob just sold his 450’s and went 500’s for his MTI. View attachment 1320730
Same size. Only difference is the bigger and touch heavier lower unit. Looks like Drew swapped all of the chaps and plastics from his 450's. They were all custom painted.

That little 340 should be a rocket now.

Selling my '93 STV ProComp Ski bottom. Original gel in great condition for it's age. I had it cut and buffed one time and have waxed it after every time out since. Powdercoated rub rail done by Bill Wheeler in Havasu. '96 big bearing 260 not sure on hours but runs real strong and starts right up every time. Lower unit is a CLE with 1.87 gear, brand new shafts, gears, seals, and billet carrier bought from Jacob Avery up in Nor Cal. Asking $22K PM me if you're interested and let's make a deal. Only reason I'm selling is I just had a kid and need a bigger boat. Let's keep this thing in the Church!

It says Polansky Hi-Performance on the speedo, which looks like a Gaffrig.

What is Polansky?
It's a Polansky Speedo LOL It has a hull mounted water pickup on the transom. I've compared it to GPS and it's super accurate.

IT ROLLS hard!we ran a few miles with Drew and Mr Mckenna that day.Heard the props were a tad short and they got to 127mph in a hurry Banging rev-limiter!there was this pesky STV that got some glass water and held its own for King-of-Delta

Hello from Lake Norman, NC. My name is Patrick and, growing up on a small lake in GA, I've been a boater my whole life. I got into performance V-hulls here on LKN a few years ago, my latest was a 1990 Formula 272. I've lived through all the ups and downs of owning older performance Vs. That being said, I've been rocking a pontoon the last 2 seasons and - while the lack of maintenance (4-stroke Merc) and overall ease of ownership is great - I've got the itch to go fast again.

I commute regularly on I-77 and right before you get to the exit I live off of you are greeted with this view:

Many afternoons I have driven across the lake thinking how much fun it would be to be sitting there in something like a Skater (what most general boaters associate with a cat/tunnel) just enjoying the sunset. Knowing you just ripped across the lake and have one more run back to the dock. Occasionally I'll see a random performance boat doing just that. Not to get too nostalgic but the guy who owned the marina on the lake a grew up on raced what I believe was an STV back in the day in river drags. I remember always being excited to go to the marina to see his latest and greatest race boat (usually in a bright color) which always had a huge Merc outboard hanging off the back.

So anyways, this year I decided to do something about it and things came together pretty quickly. I called a buddy who I knew had owned a few tunnel hull boats and told him I thought I wanted something like a 22-24' Skater. He explained to me why something like an Eliminator/Liberator would fit the bill but told me I'd probably have a hard time finding something on the East Coast. I started looking into these boats and that's when I found a ton of threads here and on S&F. I scoured the internet looking at boats for sale and eventually found an older ad for a 1998 Eliminator Daytona 21 in VA. I called the owner and we talked muscle cars, fast boats, and his Eliminator for nearly 2-hours.

I was told this boat lived with its original owner in CA most of its life then went to SC when they moved. It was sold to a guy on Lake Hartwell, GA who eventually sold it to the current owner in Richmond, VA. The boat was close enough and the price seemed reasonable so I drove up to see it on a nice 32* day.

The layout on this boat is interesting. It has a ton of "pleasure" boat features like the seating arrangement, drink holders, cabin lights, ski pole, etc. I know most of this is extra weight but nice to have. The front seats have much nicer bolster than most Daytonas I've seen pictures of. The stereo has been updated at some point but it was a while ago. The gauges are all autometer marine. I bought a very nice moisture meter prior to looking at the boat and went over every inch of the deck/hull/sponsons/transom. It metered out consistently bone dry everywhere - it's apparent this boat spent most of its life in a garage. The bilge is in excellent shape overall and all of the rigging seems to have been done at a high level. The original 2.5 threw a rod in 2020. The new motor started as a 225 Promax that was then bored .30 over and received some light head work during the rebuild. The rebuild was done by a guy named Lee Anderson of Sanderson Marine in VA. The lower unit is a Speedmaster. I was told the rebuild was done at 290 hours and the boat shows 340 hours now. The boat has IMCO hydraulic steering and a Mercury hydraulic jack plate.

After talking extensively with the owner and looking the boat over head to toe including a cold start on the hose, I felt confident enough in the information I was told and everything I saw in front of me to buy the boat. I may have made a grave mistake, but at this point I am really excited. I've wanted something like this for a long time and I'm hoping this is a solid boat that will scratch the itch. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but hoping for at least a few easy seasons in terms of maintenance/issues. We all know how that goes lol. That being said it seems like this boat has been really well maintained cosmetically and mechanically. I'm excited to be a part of the community and learn more about these awesome machines!

Nice. Had one briefly which sadly went to the East Coast and was ruined converted to a jet. Ran just over 97 with a lightly modded 225 pm.

Nice! Do you remember which prop?

I’d be happy with upper 80’s to be honest. 90’s would be well beyond my expectation.

Pretty sure it was my 29 hoss hyperdrive. Took a little bit of distance before I got the bow to settle and get on the bubble. I was really surprised, it really liked that prop.

Very cool. This is a whole new world for me. I’m sure there will be quite the learning curve.

Take your time, wake crossing is much different, remember cats don't slow down as quickly as a V. Congrats
Thanks and absolutely - I’ll only be taking this boat out on nice calm days.

I’ve been told to warm it up in neutral, shut off then start in gear to help the gear case. Take off from a stop trimmed all the way down on the jack plate and trim to plane then slowly work it up keeping an eye on water pressure. I’ve been told on calm water days it may hop a little from ~60-70mph and just to slightly turn the wheel if it does to take it out. Otherwise just getting familiar with the feel of the boat with trim etc.

The prop on the boat is a no-name 28p. The previous owner built this boat for his highschool son to run on the James River and wanted a good all-around prop that intentionally wasn’t the best suited for top end (he said it’s at 75mph on the limiter at 7000rpm). He also said he borrowed a Mazco Cleaver 28p and it also went right to the limiter at 86mph. I spoke with Randy Corsen in FL and he is sending me a Drag 4 28p. He said it should run right at 89/90 and give good overall performance/feel. If that’s the case, I will be a happy camper.

Will keep everyone posted and open to any and all advice!

Looks like it will be a bit before they get to producing boats here in the USA. Molds are being made and shipped to Florida. A Canadian group has secured the first four boats. Hoping that it won’t be too much longer than 12 months before some builds happen for all of us.
The Argo will be a bit different than the original Argo. The wide body is a new feature for Argo. Also, the style of mold that produces the Argo has been changed. The new mold is called a “shoebox” style. The new Argo will have a rub rail that the original did not have. Pains me to not sell the Cougar immediately, but I need a boat to hold me over until the Argo is available.

Well, that will give me some time to pool some money up anyway. It's about time those 280's that have been boxed up for 19 years are put to use.

Jack and Paul with do the Brand Right!!

I prefer the But joint Capped look myself but can get Pricey. Twister and Argo do a good job with a tight fit but do not glass the outside. I decided the add Full height stringers, Cut Transom hang over, Tab Capping and Re-Gelcoat.

You would save a lot of money by buying a used Argo/Twister/Eurocat/Lustcat in the Nordics and have it shipped over...

We had an unseasonably warm day today so I took the Daytona out for its maiden voyage. All I can say is I'm hooked and so happy with the boat. It's a whole new world and I only took it up to around 70 but man this thing is awesome!
