Ahh ok. Did not know about that event.
We pull our boats to attend the annual Antique and Classic Boat Society, Sunny Land Festival in Tavares, FL the third week in March. Thought perhaps you were referring to that event. We always look forward to that winter break to mark the beginning of boating season.
Enjoy

I'm so fucking bored, 3rd week of march can't get here soon enough. 😫
Don't you have a hi powered 100 mph plus snowmobile? We do and they are way quicker than any outboard and hard to hold on to at times.

Gave that up years ago. My joints and cold do not get along. Sleds are a complete pain in the ass anyway. Plus I've seen way too much in dumbassery in the sled world, boats are bad enough but sleds bring the ree rees out of the wood work.

Went to take my front seat out….bolts were not stainless and they were in rusty shape. Ended up cutting them out. Made a custom plate with “ nut inserts” already in the holes. This will allow super easy and fast removal of the front seat. Boats are cramped and hard to work on. This makes things a lot easier.

We did the sled thing. Had a large group of us. Within a 2 season time we lost 3 friends. Buddy Bob hit a tree at the top of the Jordan Valley, Casey went thru the ice at the Coast Guard station and Jeff stopped to take a leak on the trail at the top of a hill east of Charlevoix. Our friend Ron hit him and killed him. Told the wife I had enough and sold them. Ron and Jeff had just left a party we were all at. We were out to eat with friends from Ohio and watched Casey and his brother drive into the open water. It was snowing hard and they lost their direction on the lake.

You can't drink and ride anymore, especially with new turbo sleds being what they are. I have lost 3 friends snowmobiling and alcohol was the common denominator to all fatalities. We are riding the North Central U.P. of Michigan this week. Staying in Grand Marais and will run North to Copper Harbor one day, head East to Paridise one day, and head West to Gogebic one day. Trail burning is like boating, (hard to stop when you grew up with it-and todays hardware is incredible), I should be good and sore by next weekend LOL....

Sounds like a blast, enjoy. What kinda speeds do you cruise & max? Or is that something people don't post because of insurance

I’d actually be curious myself. Also how many miles you guys run in a day.

Being a life long sled guy it’s odd to say I have never been back east to ride. Living out west with great terrain less than 3 hours away and Revelstoke a days drive away I/we are pretty spoiled! We judge how hard we rode for the day by how many miles we went compared to how much fuel used. It’s not uncommon to be 40ish total miles, but the fuel light is on. A typical day for us is 7 miles on trail each way and all the rest is uphill through the back country. The new sleds like I have (same as Joe & Scott) are silly sauce HP for what they are. I still have a 400hp turbo Nytro that runs on propane, but the G5 Skidoo stuff is really hard to beat with a few mods to wake it up a bit more. For our group we try to make 1/2hp per pound, which this new G5 platform gets us pretty close to. We can surpass that with the 4 stroke stuff, but to heard a 600 pound sled through the hills for a day wipes me out!

Back to the speed question, I’m curious what that looks like on a trail compared to what we see for track speeds (not ground speed) going uphill. When things are right we will see mid 60s track speeds.

Thanks. He was lost for over a year. He finally was found washed up in Oyster Bay in Lake Charlevoix. After 20 years I think his widow has finally has got her life together. And yes, alcohol played a big part of those losses. Have fun and keep a clear head to the young guys out there.

Got my seat back in shape. Fixed the foam, put in new stainless hardware, enlarged the windscreen and siliconed the rub rail. Added fiberglass to the seat when it was apart. Seems to be much stronger now. Ready to test !!!

Some boating royalty visited the Church today! We rode quads and had a great time. Rick Bowling and Dan Gattos. These guys are at another level.
Thrilled to hear Rick is doing well after his accident. They are both great guys. Thankfully I get to talk to Dan fairly often. They hope to make it to LOTO this year.
Sure hope Rev, Kev, Bully, Highvoltage329 & Boatmaster can make it out this year.

There will be one coming across the bench in the near future of a how much nitrous and methanol can you run build.

It used to leave on two progressive stages, and two more after that. More of a restoration conversation piece but it will see limited usage I'm sure.

Any idea what happened to cause that accident?

I don’t know what caused it, but it happened QUICK!!! One weird move, a sharp hook and it was all over. That’s nightmare sauce for me! 😔

Everyday that passes, I have less desire to pilot my missile. 120 give or take in the ‘19 on the river when nobody else is around isn’t all that enticing anymore. It’s fun, but it’s when, not if……. And I know that.

Toms hydro the gearcase or motor locked up, the skeg hit him in the chest after he was tossed out.

I'm going back to my HST, I know that old girl like the back of my hand, I've broke powerheads, gearcases, had skegs break, props, over 100 mph it just lays down and coasts to a stop. The last set up ran 115 very consistently. Cruises 85-90 happily after all these years of doing this I'm perfectly good with that.

Grey boat and I had a episode last october. I broke my magic prop for that boat a couple years ago , it hates eveything I've tried since. I have some things to fix on it and it will be for sale in the summer with a 150.
