Here is a hike I did that kicked my ass back last August. @69hondo if you are looking for a bit of a hike here are a couple of options in an area know for site seeing. This is the area that I grew up in so I have explored it a lot. I am thinking about doing it again here shortly. With all my walking I want to see if it is easier. I also want to take my wife as far as she is able. It might be a bit much so I have another hike that it ready easy. I plan to do that with as well as my step-mother.

This trail (difficult) - https://theworldtravelguy.com/koko-head-hike-crater-trail/
Easier trail - https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/hiking/oahu/makapuu-point-lighthouse-trail/

Oh one more thing about the Koko Crater hike. If you are going to do it get there early, like 6:30am on a clear morning. Rain and heat would really suck and make it more difficult. Bring water a maybe a snack if you didn’t eat breakfast. I took couple musubi s and two bottles of water. It also allowed my to sit up on tops for about an hour enjoying the views.

The last photo shows my rating of this trail. 😂 😂 😂 It kicked my ass that morning and the legs hurt walking up a half flight of stairs to our house for the next 4 days.

You can also go as far as you want. Even a third of the way the views towards Honolulu and Diamond Head are great. Oh and don’t do Hanauma Bay. Grew up going as a kid. Back in the day you could drive to the bottom. One of my classmates actually lived down there as the father was in charge of the park. There are many better spots to snorkel. Reach out if you want to know. 👍

Just thought of another option in the area @69hondo

the red line is the crater hike that kicks your ass. Parking is close by and easy.

Then you have the blue line. You have to get a little creative. It is a paved road used to service the cell tower or other antennas. There is not really access but it is easy. I can walk you through it if you need. you can park at the shopping center, Kosko Marina or closest is the neighborhood up the hill a bit. I have not done it in 20 years but it should be much easier with views to Honolulu

This images are from the last time that @DWC was in town. Back I gues it has to be about 3-4 years I first walked down to Waikiki. I think my wife was in Havasu and I told her. She thought that I was crazy From walking that far. Don, Steph and I laugh about that often. I also think of @Ziggy and @shintoooo as I walk by the BMW Dealership. I aways look twice as you never know how bad of drivers hey are as they pull off the lot. Just thankfu; I am not near the Ford dealership. 😂😂

I also once I make up my mind as to which Lamborghini I want I will walk down to pick it up.. 🤪 🤪

This evening I was too late to see the fireworks. But kids were out having a good time. Then you had the guy out making huge bubbles that @DWC and I were questioning his motives as it looked like he was by himself. Then this week I was too early for the fireworks. I will hit it right one of these times. The wife is coming to town this week and I hope that we get out there in time.

We walked up and down t h e Waikiki stretch multiple times without feeling sketched out too much. Doesn't matter where you go in our fine nation, you will highly likely cross paths will a wigged out homeless person.....
Imagine spending $billions helping our citizens instead of our political scheisters sending it to their money launderers at war.🤬

These images are from a walk up the valley from our house. I think some are also of Nuuanu further up to the Pali. That is the highway that goes over to the Windward side and towns of Kailu and Kaneohe. Kaneohe is where @Ace in the Hole lived. I’d go out to @Mini Kat neck of the wOSDS but I’d need to hook up with a few of my cousins for security. 😂😂😂

Went there when I was 18 some 42 years ago, we did a ski adventure in that lagoon in pics, i think there was 6 people total they picked up to go, there was a ski shop there you could try any ski they had included. Buddy skied once, everyone else for 5 minutes or so and I got the rest of 4 hours all to myself, it was awesome.

No my sister does not own that store and Waikiki. But whenever I'm back on the island I still get local discount everywhere. Funny thing is my brother even though living in California always kept up on his driver license for Hawaii till the day he died.

Perfect morning.. also. Royal Hawaiian hotel not recommended 😬
Check out this photo of the Royal, taken a few years after it opened in 1927. Things were a little different back then.

The hotel was taken over by the US Navy during WWII. It was turned into a destination for submarine crews and other sailors on leave.

I always like walking through the lobby and imagining those young men enjoying themselves and trying to forget their lives were in danger. Fifty two US submarines were lost during the war, and about 3,700 of their brave crewmen never returned home.

Step kids friends family owns diamond head grill, really good grub there.
This is one of Brianna’s favorite places back home… That whole strip has some really good hole in the wall spots. My old office was only about three minutes from there.

That’s very cool. You could tell it was really nice at one point. The surrounding hotels just swallowed it up. Definitely changed over the years

Went to that Hooters on one of my first work trips there YEARS ago. Only had a few hours worth of work on the trip Finished a went to get some wings. After a couple hours and a few beers the waitress talked me into signing up for a hooters rewards card. 😬. Steph didn’t think it was as funny as i did.
Back in 2003-2004 I was responsible for all IT audit activities in Hawaii for KPMG.
My office was 2 blocks away. I would spend 3 weeks in Hawaii, 1 in LA. Ended up playing on the Hooters coed softball team :). That was fun

If you crazy bastards wish to do the Koko hike, I suggest you prepare for it. It's not that easy and will kick your butt. Like said, do it early in the morning. Drink a ton of water beforehand because you will sweat. Take a light backpack with food for the break on top. Pack some Gatorade or similar, and enjoy the incredible views from the top. We were happy we did it, and happy to check if off the list. My wife wants to do it again on our next trip.......I told her I'd think about it. LMAO!!

On our last trip to Hawaii, we hiked/walked over 46 miles.....in a week. 💪

Those pictures are great. I’ve been to Maui once and the only difference I could make between there and Huntington was that you could see your feet in the water.
Everyone I’ve talked to have said you’re not going to the right place🤷🏼

I used to do that hike almost weekly a decade ago….also walked between 6-9 miles a day delivering mail. Walked knocking doors selling solar every evening… I was 155lbs soaking wet….could run the entire thing up and down. Then my heart put me in check 💀👀

It’s much better at night but illegal. When you’re in college it’s a great “date” aka action spot 👀🤣

Nice that you have WIFI on your plane ride. 7 hours……wow. Then you only have 5.5ish more hours until you are back on solid ground in CA. Plus the time travel across the international date line. And I thought that I had it rough. You da man!!!!

I’m a damn tired man. Good news is that we land in Honolulu and go to Mitch’s for dinner. Really damn good sushi. We fly home first thing in the morning.

Today we went for a hike up Diamond Head. We went up early to avoid the crowds. Buy were we wrong. we went there 30 minutes before it opened. Threre were about 10 cars in front of us and we wandered around. We should have hit the trail and tried to beat everyone else. It was a nice morning. The hike was fair but not too challenging. I will post up tomorrow for the day after report. Oh, and you tourists need to make reservations these days. Locals are able to go at any time without paying or reservations. Good thing the wife was with me and her Hawaii Driver’s license.

While up top the wife was asking what was all of the little structures for. Turns out they were all homeless tents built on th foothill of Diamond Head. Gotta love what people have allowed to happen Even in Hawaii. Sad to see to say the least!!!

Also while walking on the main drag in my Foxes shirt I had a car of young kids yell out “Foxes hell yeah!!!”

We were on our way to Kai. It is a great place and I’d suggest it If you are in the area.

I don't really know where "there" is, but it looks like a place I want to take my wife, maybe the kids too:)
Looks like a fairytale.
That was the main drag in Kona on the Big Island. 👍 We had some of the best sunsets in the islands there last week.

I have to start saving and hustling. Next June will be our 25th anniversary. Daughter graduates college in fall though...she's been talking about Prague though. I think I could convince her otherwise.

We are in Maui right now for 10 days. Staying next to Kaanapali, at Kahana sunset. Any pointers or points of interest to check out? We are doing the road to Hana and 7 sacred pools, the sunrise hike to Haleakala, snorkel honalua bay, molikini. Looking to get away from the crowds and see spots only locals know about. Pretty cool so far, our beach always has turtles. Like Joker said seems like a cleaner huntington, I was picturing more rainforest and tropical like.

You will see the rainforest on the way to Hana. That is the wet side of the island. Looks like you have a good number of things checked off. Just be sure that you have looked into reservations if needed. When we did Hana last year there waS a beach near by that you had to have reservations. We didn;t stop at the 7 sacred pools and that was one of my biggest regrets. Found a great beach a bit further which I enjoyed sitting and watching the waves crash on the rocks. The sound was really cool.

Head up to Hanalei if you are able. Some of the valleys up there and Princeville are beautiful. 👍
