The lure of Hawaii….

I have been trying to get out a bit more walking about 20-30 miles a week. I been seeing a bit of the beauty of Hawaii that bring people from all over the world. I was walking yesterday. Wound up roaming through downtown on the way back to the house. Saw a couple riding the biki rental bikes. As they were docking the bikes I was right there waiting for the signal to change. Turns out they were from Ukraine. Didn’t 100% understand them but it sounds like they escaped to CA and decided to come to Hawaii since they were so close. They were loving it. I take a lot of photos as I text to the wife as she is in AZ most of the time. I thought that RDP members might enjoy to see them as well.

Just watching the fish in the water was so calming for me..

I came across this incredible sailboat. Couldn’t stay too long as I felt the need to go be poor somewhere else.

Luckily a short time later I found joy. I have found the yacht and dingy that might fit my budget. Perfect ratio of seating to cooler size. I should be able to sail and drink worries away in the pacific.

Back when I was in college there was an absolute dime piece from Maine that worked there that by this time in her life she has to have severe back pain but dear God a few of us HPU students would not hesitate to have her peel our shrimp (she was an HPU student..)

Just a few iconic structures and buildings. It is interesting to see how many new building there are after 30 years of being an adult. The First Hawaiian Tower is the first that I saw imploded and rebuilt.

My wife and I married on Oahu. It obviously was a special place to us. We feel very blessed to have the opportunities that we do to return often.

Then while about 10 minute from home I saw a bit of smoke. Looking in the direction I was not able to identify how close to our house it was. Our neighborhood is really hodgepodge of homes. Some date back 100 years other only a few years old. Then the total dumps that the land value is close to a million dollars. The neighbor behind us has had a tarp on there house for at least 10 years now. Sometimes even two tarps.

Looks like the stores are all stocked up and ready for you guys to get you new aloha wear. We always enjoy chuckling at you all in the bright shirts and dresses. I keep telling the wife and son that I am going to buy us matching clothes one year to use on our Christmas cards. Maybe I need to pick up one of the most god awful on and wear it to EVER RDP event.

This is where we spent out summers in middle school and started to surf. One of my fariends parents divorced and the father had a condo in Waikiki. We could go and hang at the beach all weekend.

These images are from a walk up the valley from our house. I think some are also of Nuuanu further up to the Pali. That is the highway that goes over to the Windward side and towns of Kailu and Kaneohe. Kaneohe is where @Ace in the Hole lived. I’d go out to @Mini Kat neck of the wOSDS but I’d need to hook up with a few of my cousins for security.

This images are from the last time that @DWC was in town. Back I gues it has to be about 3-4 years I first walked down to Waikiki. I think my wife was in Havasu and I told her. She thought that I was crazy From walking that far. Don, Steph and I laugh about that often. I also think of @Ziggy and @shintoooo as I walk by the BMW Dealership. I aways look twice as you never know how bad of drivers hey are as they pull off the lot. Just thankfu; I am not near the Ford dealership.

I also once I make up my mind as to which Lamborghini I want I will walk down to pick it up..

This evening I was too late to see the fireworks. But kids were out having a good time. Then you had the guy out making huge bubbles that @DWC and I were questioning his motives as it looked like he was by himself. Then this week I was too early for the fireworks. I will hit it right one of these times. The wife is coming to town this week and I hope that we get out there in time.

Yes it's a multi unit that is solar/battery'd out etc. Didn't know he had it listed but its a badass place, and would be a solid investment property. Went back and read the listing, the agent is/was a long term tenant there and friend of the owner. Super cool guy, he was a my pro rep for Lowes when I was in construction there.

Went to that Hooters on one of my first work trips there YEARS ago. Only had a few hours worth of work on the trip Finished a went to get some wings. After a couple hours and a few beers the waitress talked me into signing up for a hooters rewards card. . Steph didn’t think it was as funny as i did.

Definitely my neck of the woods. I have family on every side of the island. My dad is the one that hauled all the concrete for the pali tunnels! But I was born and raised in Kailua Hills 1093 Liku Street.

I got to know the cat renting the boards next to surf rider, I think in 7 days I rented a board 9 times, 20 bucks an hour but never said anything no matter how long I had board. It was funny last day these 2 Asian cats were riding up on the shore with boards, i said brother get me a board, he says grab one from them they are done, only problem was both boards the fins had be broken off, bra was hot!

We lived in Hawaii Kai in 1979-80.
I ran Jet Ski Hawaii in Koko Marina.
Couldn’t beat Bueno Nalo in Waimanalo for San Diego style Mexican food!

Alright well I ended up going for. a 3 miles walk. Headed up to Punchbowl Memorial of the Pacific. My uncle, Step-mother’s brother, will be burried later this month. Sadly I will not be in town to attend. He will be the 3rd of the family so far.

For the last few weeks I have been looking for the Diamond Head money shot. Found one another afternoon with a small rainbow but nothing worth posting. I think that I found it today.

If you look down there is actually multiple cemeteries. If you look close there is a road below. That splits a cemetery below. I will have more to the story later.

Gotta love the Rainbow towers at HH. Steph prefers Aliii for the pool. It’s a little more peaceful. The whole place is a little tired but the location and amenities are solid.

Well they ware getting ready to close Punchbowl so back to the house. Took a bit of time to take photos of an old bridge that I always have been intrigued with. Not sure why but it makes me things of the past and how Hawaii must have looked. Then you have how the process must have been building it almost a hundred years ago.

This is the cemetery that I pointed from above. This where the Alika’s family lives and cares for he cemetary. And most importantly where Eddie Aikau grew up.

Not sure when this structure burnt down.

I took the first photo yesterday with the intent of explaining the second photo. Buy I guess that I never did that. This is the Night Blooming Cereus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night-blooming_cereus. This lined the walls of the school that our attended from K-12 grade. But the first image is of it growing in the wild. Will dropping off our son we’d get a glimpse of the the flowers that bloomed the night before. I never knew how they looked at the height of the bloom until I just saw the Wikipedia that I just looked up. Sad to see that there is so much beauty lost with the night bloom and only for one day.

My now girlfriend worked at Hooters through her college days. She said the peeling of shrimp grossed her out every time. She hates shrimp lol

https://www.cem.va.gov/CEMs/nchp/nmcp.asp. It is about 10-20 minutes from Waikiki depending on what part of Waikiki. It can be rainy a bit in the area. IF you are flexible in time I’d suggest that you find a clear morning as the photos of the memorial would be best that time of day. I was thinking that I’d come back for better images Another morning.

Here is a hike I did that kicked my ass back last August. @69hondo if you are looking for a bit of a hike here are a couple of options in an area know for site seeing. This is the area that I grew up in so I have explored it a lot. I am thinking about doing it again here shortly. With all my walking I want to see if it is easier. I also want to take my wife as far as she is able. It might be a bit much so I have another hike that it ready easy. I plan to do that with as well as my step-mother.
