Joe, what does AI say lol (seriously)?
I think American Pie and either Bohemian Rhapsody, or We Are the Champions, are up there...especially We Are the Champions - that one is an anthem with international pull.
Elton John? Pop, but he has some great songs, also internationally known.
.., Nuther Canadian band…The Collectors…from the psychedelic era…late 60s… Saw them live sometime in 1968 at the Magic Mushroom on Ventura Boulevard… absolutely hypnotized me…had never heard anything like that… they were signed to Warner Brothers… But really didn’t catch on in the US market… although at one point, they were Canada’s national band… but may have changed their nameJust have to throw in some Canadiana here for some of you guys from that era.Back in the late 60's psychedelic music scene , canadian band 'Seeds of Time' Vancouver BC, my neighbour Lindsey Mitchell, lead guitarist, wearing white shirt and the beetle hairdoo, is an accomplished songwriter/player. Funny to watch him in this old B&W clip.
Lindsey is in the first and the last song, playing. He's still active locally.
…When I made the Collecters post… I couldn’t for the life of me remember what the name they adopted later was… Then all of a sudden it popped into my head they became Chilliwack… the Collecters first album… simply titled… The Collectors is incredible… which is on YouTube in its entirety …It’s an absolute work of art every song on it… their second album not so much… can’t remember the name of it…@Willie B , thanks for posting it, I've never heard of them. I lived in Vancouver from 1971 on when Little Richard, Ike and Tina Turner and others started taken over the music scene. Those days, you could see them all at Oil Can Harry, The Living Room, the Cave, and The Commodore etc.... for $2.50 cover charge, the good old days.![]()
Santana gave a concert 3 hours non stop at the Collisseum too. Yer after, Chuck Berry arrived effing drunk at the airport and made us waiting and waiting for an hour, and didn't even show up. And that's when hell broke loose, marijuana induced folks charged the stage, thrown the piano off the stage, chairs thrown all over the place and the police moved in. That's when me and my goup left the building, haha.
Didn't know the Collectors become the Group Chilliwack later
So many pages into this, I believe most of can agree two of the top songs in the past 50+ years are...
Hotel California.
Stairway to Heaven
Wow! That was fuckin' awesome! I've never seen that. Heart KILLED IT! At certain points she sounded just like Plant in his prime. The interaction between the guys in the stands watching was so cool and the interaction between Bonhams son and the group was heart warming. So fuckin' cool. Those guys are straight legends. Moreover, if you ever watch any interviews with any of them, they are so down to earth and laid back. Jimmy page has to be one of the most humble people when compared to talent. Amazing.Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven..
And Heart’s rendition of it is nothing short of spiritual
The deal is, that's obviously Jason Bonham on drums. Wearing a "Bonzo" hat.Wow! That was fuckin' awesome! I've never seen that. Heart KILLED IT! Often times late at night after a few beers I'll go on to YouTube and play that video wearing headphones, it strikes a chord with me. The Choir, Bonham, Plant, Page, JPJ etc.. Gives me chills every time.
Another canadian band Honeymoon Suite, Burning love has a great lead solo in it
