Just when you thought Biden was finally going to shut up and fade away, he does something else that's monumentally stupid. He is proposing a plan for Medicare and Medicaid to cover the cost of Ozempic and Wegovy treatments. This is fucking outrageous, another scheme that'll cost billions of dollars. The estimate of $35 billion over the next decade, or $3.5 billion a year, is a joke. If implemented, it'll be more than double that figure within a few years.

The stuff costs $1K a week, and there are tens of millions of fat fucks on Medicare and Medicaid that'll qualify to receive the treatment. The argument for the implementation is, of course, that HHS spends more on that for heart disease, diabetes, and other medical issues caused by obesity. The assumption that those costs will magically disappear is bullshit of the highest order.

This is a perfect example of the overreach that bureaucratic agencies have. Unelected minions spend hundreds of billions on bullshit like this, without the consent of Congress or the people. The recent Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright v Raimondo, which changes forty years of precedent, says actions like this are illegal. The court ruled Congress must write laws and appropriate funds for major policy decisions, finally taking away the power of the administrative cabal. It's about fucking time.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of Americans with obesity would be eligible to have popular weight-loss drugs like Wegovy or Zepbound covered by Medicare or Medicaid under a new rule the Biden administration proposed Tuesday morning.

The costly proposal from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services immediately sets the stage for a showdown between the powerful pharmaceutical industry and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an outspoken opponent of the weight-loss drugs who, as President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the agency, could block the measure.

While the rule would give millions of people access to weekly injectables that have helped people shed pounds so quickly that some have labeled them miracle drugs, it would cost taxpayers as much as $35 billion over the next decade.

“It’s a good day for anyone who suffers from obesity,” U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra told The Associated Press in an interview. “It’s a game changer for Americans who can’t afford these drugs otherwise."

This is another insidious expansion of the regulatory state. What's particularly alarming is what will grow from this, because it will quantify obesity as a disease. That will logically allow government funding for bariatric surgery and other expenditures that are currently banned by law.

Medicare has been barred from offering the drugs under a decades-old law that prohibits the government-backed insurance program from covering weight-loss products. The rule proposed by the Biden administration, however, would recognize obesity as a disease that can be treated with the help of the drugs.

The Loper Bright ruling:

Everything the Biden administration does has an element of racial pandering. They've already noted the high incidence of obesity in black women, and that this will "save lives."

OK I'll get on my soapbox for a minute....................the "vax" IMHO saved my wife's life.......Mark didn't get the vax.....I wish he did. He was a good man and cared about others. He is missed.

I'm glad your wife is well but it has killed a lot of young healthy people and still is. Everyone should check out this link:
It's called the Pfizer papers.

The best part is that the manufacturer of Ozempic is out of Denmark where it’s only $180/month.

They are just here to fuck the insurance companies like everyone else.

Hopefully Trump will shut this down asap.

There are pros and cons to the Vax. To me, that's neither here nor there in this conversation.

Many of the people this will be made available to are on "assistance" programs. Those programs pay for food that is easy, but not healthy. They could save billions and not spend billions if they only payed for food that was actually healthy.

Pretty simple first step, don't allow all the fast food and convenience stores to accept EBT

Just go back to EBT approved items - just like the food stamps used to do - not a credit card for anything and everything. Only for necessities, no junk food, alcohol, or weed.
Even better just shut off EBT. If they have to get off their fat asses and get a job to survive, the exercise will do them good. Even if they have to walk to the corner with their pitiful sign, at least they are getting some exercise.

At least it’s for Americans. There are inmates here that would qualify. I’m ok with some of my tax dollars going to the elderly, the poor …. and fat, beer sluggin, pizza eaten inmates that drive DCB’s. lol
Trump’s first day looks pretty booked up. He will probably shut this down on his second day.

This proposal is nothing more than throwing a big fuck you at Trump and RFK Jr. by Biden's minions.
It will be interesting to see how they deal with it.

I guess, "your body, your choice" only applies to abortions.

I got the one Covid vax, since it was demanded by the American Red Cross, who I have volunteered the last 19 years for, but I've had Covid 4 times.

My G/F never got the Covid Vax, who lives with me and goes everywhere with me, but she has never contacted Covid.

I know two close friends and a sister in law who received the Covid Vax, and all three have died from unforeseen heart related illnesses, all within 18 months after receiving the Covid Vax.

I don't trust wonky science, I trust what I see.

I think they just announced that the compounding pharmacies' have to stop making their generic version of the weight loss drugs by March of 2025.
SO the $350 per month alternative is gone.

If they can do that to one kind of med, they could do it for others as well. That could be really bad for a lot of people...

I have an idea

EAT LESS CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the price of snicker bar vs a banana !

Drink water rather than soda !

When you go to a market and the cart is full of soda , chips , cereal , cookies and frozen pizza the person pushing the cart is always 100LBs over weight.

Shocking !!

10% of food assistance dollars are spent on soda alone. That is billions of $$$ going directly from the treasury into the coffers of big corn/sugar. Same as big Pharma, the lobbyists own the politicians. Nothing new under the sun.

This. But people don’t listen.

I do fasting everyday. 15-17 hours. I’ll wait until I can eat good food over barf bag shit loaded with carbs, sugars & seed oils.

They got fat by going the easy way and are looking to loose the fat the easy way.

Maybe EBT should only apply to the perimeter of the store and not the isles. It's along the outer walls that you find the fresh ingredients.

I've had family on EBT, and at the time they needed it and this was with both parents working.

As for this latest money grab, yeah I'm not surprised. My hope is this is what the Trump administration focuses on when shrinking the government, but I don't have high hopes.

EBT should only apply to fresh foods. Nothing pre packaged or junk foods. Hamburger, pork & chicken only. No sodas or juices. If you're on ebt your time is cheap and plentiful. You want orange juice? Squeeze a fucking orange and learn some work ethic.

It should be painful enough to not want to be on it. But ample enough to live till you pull your head out of your ass.
