We need to put together a team. @Cdog, @Racer56 , and @spectras only, time to step up your game. @obnoxious001 is building the engines.

I'm the crew chief and HMFIC.

Who else is in?

The richest race in Sprint Car history is coming to Eldora Speedway this summer. Track owner Tony Stewart announced Wednesday evening that the Eldora Million will return July 12-13 at "The Big E," but this time it will be Winged Sprint Car drivers battling for the one-million dollar prize.

Featuring a winner's purse of $1,002,023 and a total purse of $1.4 million, the unsanctioned event will serve as a historic moment for sprint car racing. The unprecedented event is a cooperative effort between Eldora Speedway and FloSports, the exclusive live streaming partner of the event.

“All of us at Eldora are super excited to host the first million-dollar-to-win sprint car race,” said Stewart. “Back in 2003, Eldora hosted a non-wing race that paid $200,000 to winner Jac Haudenschild, but this will be the first time a sprint car driver will race for a winner’s check worth $1 million.

“This will showcase the best of the best, you’re going to want to see how this race unfolds where in the final laps, with guys still in the hunt running close together, what they will do to win a million dollars.”

One year ago, The Eldora Million made its return as a dirt late model race for the first time since the inaugural event in 2001. Donnie Moran won the inaugural race, while it was Jonathan Davenport becoming a millionaire in 2022.

Now, it's time for a Sprint Car driver to become a millionaire at Eldora Speedway.

The Eldora Million will be the 17th sprint car race in track history to pay at least seven figures, joining the Historical Big Ones (12), Kings Royals (2) and Mopar Million (1).

Combined with the Kings Royal, which will take place July 14-15 following the Eldora Million, the overall purse for the four-day stretch will exceed $2 million.

I used to crew for a sprint car some time ago, Ascot, El Centro, Phoenix, Chula Vista and other west coast tracks. More recently I did build an engine that ran at the Chili Bowl, made it through the qualifying nights on to Saturday. Leak down after all the racing showed cylinders at only 2% leakage, owners were happy with it!

Used to crew for my friend's 1958 Austin Healey, a Westwood and Mission raceway historic racer, and Laguna Seca historic invitational. May go again next year if he's going to be invited.

We have about 28 Formula BMW open wheel owners and maybe 5 or 6 FF at Area27. Biggest group is the Radicals, probably 25 30 during the races. Largest group is the GTU class up to 30+ guys during races, running 3 wide in turn 1, fun. My son and I are busy during the winter, working on member's cars. Looking forward testing the Ariel Atom with new Eaton supercharger upgrade, yielding 400+ HP.

Built this 58 Matchless basket case from a heap in 1989. Finally, got the correct rear shocks and chainguard for it after all those years. Lucas 6V system , fires right up every time regardless of bad reputation.

Fellow area27 member Trevor Seibert purchased Penticton speedway and upgraded it. We go watch the sprint cars there. Trevor been racing for quite some time, here's a vid of him crash in 1995 Indy lights. Lucky SOB.

The winner of the Mopar Million at Eldora came out of my race shop. Larry Woodward owner of the wining car was living in Hawaii at the time and kept his sprint car's at my race shop. The car was custom built with o-to-thin tubing and was only legal for open sanction sprint events.

If this new event at Eldora is unsanctioned for a million dollars to win, wait to you see the unlimited money car's guys will build for this race. Think a 1,000+ HP and under a 1,000 lbs ready to race sprint cars.

Holy shit! Bet he had a bad case of red eye after that.

Nice seeing Greg win one. What could have been...

You don't see Nobles around very often. I think they sold 27 before closing.

^^^ I think there were a total of 260 built before Lee Noble sold the Noble to Rossion Q! of Florida.
My friend's 2007 M400 was last year of Nobles. Noble came back later with the Noble 600, and now the new 500.
Great little car, handles like a dream. Little 3.0L V-6, twin Garret turbos. Over 400HP in a 2350lbs body.

I was being facetious. A friend of mine had the Texas/Louisiana territory around 2005.

World class mud scrapper....I'm all over it!
As Racer 56 alluded to...
The super lightweight titanium chassis, set on shrapnel bullet stuff will be all the rage.
Eldora is on my bucket list...

Yeah but Bondios cars can take a beating watching JJ and Cory do their best to destroy them at the bowl. 1000 lbs at Eldora….maybe I’m getting old but no thanks. Speeds that fast and that light would be interesting. Went fast enough running cars at Hanfords half mile and Perris.
Plus I’m not really a wing guy anyways. I mean come on anyone can drive a slot car 😂

I dunno about that. I remember the car with the left front tire replaced by a ski and another with a LF wheelbarrow tire, Cory and JJ did a good job of mangling those rides.

Lealand McSpadden won the Chili Bowl in a Bondio bullet...
This year's Chili Bowl is gonna be a little less great...IMO.
Kyle Larson will be running a Super late model in New Mexico all week.
No Christopher Bell
No Rico Abreu
...all past winners.
No Brad Sweet WoO champion.

Yeah ever since Kyle called it out as a very under paid race seems like it’s losing a little of its luster. Will say this is it’s a race you need to experience at least once but cannot argue with Larsons statement about the lackluster payday.

I've been to the Chili Bowl it was an amazing experience...glad I went.
Don't really care to go back...the crowds, the overpriced food, pit passes etc.
Larson &Bell called out the promoter(Emmitt Hahn)and for good reason. A lot of people(fans) have gotten angry at them for stating the obvious.
Hahn makes millions off it.
CB only pays 10k to win...it's ridiculous.

It will still be an incredible race with or without the big names. The USAC National Midgets are putting on absolutely incredible shows with tons of talent. Can't wait.

Bondio runs a Barnes engine which was designed and built by the late great Al Barnes of Barnes dry sump oil pump fame.
Thank you!..I remember he ran a Barnes way back when didn't realize he was still running that combination.
Nice to see people bucking the TRD/Toyota deal.
I was happy that an SR11/Stanton won last year.
Not a fan of the evil empire- Kunz factory Toyota team.

Have you heard the Lealand McSpadden quote that is one of the best ever in racing? It goes something like this:

"I was on the second lap of my qualifying run, and I knew it was going to be a good one when I saw the ambulance lights come on as I was entering turn three."

The Tempe Tornado!

That is awesome...! Mcspadden always been one of my favorites. Watched him for years at Manzanita.
Picture below is Mcspadden qualifying at El Centro in the 70's.
It was so iconic that it later was used on a famous poster&slogan from that era...
btw...he managed to somehow save it!
