Just have never seen any videos of an htm going that fast!! With what power in it??

There are videos I have one of mine when Darren owned it doing 120 I have to upload it on YouTube but if you go on the FB you will see many videos of them running.

Was the "001"boat Roys or Steves?

Back when HTM's were getting built cell phones didn't have cameras or video. There are some videos of them running pretty fast just not very common. Today is the first I heard of the 152mph run.

I've never heard 152 either only the 306 that Steve was driving hit 150 before they headed back to the ramp and that's when the accident happened. They had called the shop to tell everyone. On the way back at 50 the steering pin broke and we know the rest of the story. After the accident this part was recalled and it was determined that's what cause the accident.

If I remember correctly, MrPump posted the 152 for the 30 footer the day before they died on Castaic.MrPump died on his birthday, said deal. Greg who had his boat here in OK Falls did some tweaking on the engine, adding methanol injection and some other stuff to make it faster. according to the video posted above, it looks like the boat is around Edmonton Alberta now, being videoed on Wabamun Lake. Crazy stuff, that lake is way too small for such fast boat.:rolleyes

Wasn't Ken Lane involved with some of this boats engine work? He was from La Crescenta...my home town.

Seeing the HTM's at a Vegas Boat show back in the early 2000's is what got me wanting a tunnel boat. Ended up with a couple different Daytona's over the years due to riding in a friends 25, but it was the HTM's that initially got me hooked.

Is that confirmed or he should make one? I'd think he'd be best served waiting until they work all the details out. But it would be great to get RD to tour and do a write up.

The boats are not squirly. Our SS was very stable it ran just over 90mph. I rode with Steve in SS with N/A 565 making passes by the sand bar doing 107mph. He would take his hands off the wheel to show how well the boat tracked straight. I was also a passenger when he repeadily got the boat to lean inside while making turns.

Steve was a hell of a guy and I wish the girls nothing but success.

Some of you may of had bad experiences for one reason or the other. That's unfortunate, but there are many people out there that have had good experiences.

But before we jump on the bash bandwagon, let's stop and think how proud we would be of our daughters if they tried to keep our dreams and passions alive and contribute to a sport we loved? These kids are taking a huge financial risk I'm sure, let's not kill their dreams before they can start.

How about we appreaciate another builder making a come back which can only mean good things for a sport we all love.

Let's look at the positives.

Well said.,

Congrats to the girls! :)

Really excited and happy to hear this! I'm wondering if all the LA County BS would make it more difficult to lay-up boats than in neighboring counties?

Not that I am aware of. They don't seem concerned either about it. But I'm sure time will tell. [emoji1303]

I hope not. I have a round about connection to HTM since my uncle was invited to be on that 30 with them that faithful day.

Sharece has shared with everyone the events and cause determined by investigators on what happened on that sad day. When things break bad things happen. But I know everyone is excited!

You think they'll resume over on Sierra Hwy?

Yes as of now they will be building in the old shop. Lia's husband Andrew and the girls will all be involved. I'm not sure yet who they are bringing on crew wise, but I'm sure they will let's us know and we will pass on the information. I know they appreciate everyone's support! So look out HTM is back

Yeah. I remember when all that came to light. Just really glad my uncle was really busy with work that day.

It's crazy all the names from the past that have been popping up. Just got off the phone with Dave. The buzz in within the circle and boating industry has been awesome.

Oh and I don't know of any other cat this size that runs 114 MPH with a SBC . HTM's are runners! Always have been and always will be.

421 small block Dart motor 871 super chiller 700 + horsepower XR Drive 114 miles an hour

Did any HTM ever get merc power? Just curious. Always liked their boats

I've seen some with the 496ho and the 525 but the SBC was all tongue in cheek. Richard had made a comment about power weigh ratio a few pages back so that's why I made the SBC comment[emoji6]

I do agree, impressive numbers (114 mph SBC) can come from small packages. Seems I recall a 25 Eliminator Daytona that made a 134 mph pass at LOTO in 2012 powered by a turbocharged 3-litre in-line six and an IMCO SC drive. Same year that Greg Olson in his 33 Daytona took top gun honors with a 192 mph pass.

These boats were very popular for a lot of years. I hope they do well and people understand what high HP will do to any boat. I towed a guy in with a 24ft HTM and sitting in the back was a 1200 HP blown engine. With that kind of HP things happen.

True But Motors were different back when HTM was BOOMING everyone was rocking Custom BigBlock Blown motors but now I'm sure it's all gonna be about the kickass engines from Mercury and Teague , I'd love to see a SR 24 with a mercury 700 or 860

I had an 01 HTM SS-24 with a Procharged 565 1000+ hp. Boat was fast.... REALLY quick too. Ran 125 on GPS and was really tough to beat on the rivers up here in the midwest. These boats are very light and can feel scary at times but that is because how fast the bottom is. My same power in a 25 daytona or any other cat its size would be AT LEAST 10 mph slower and nowhere near as quick. They are a drivers boat with monster power. They are not for the timid. I also miss mine greatly. I have since had a RPM Redline with 1000 Teague which is also a bad ass boat. Sucks that both of these smaller brands owners have perished in accidents. RIP to those two fine men. I wish great success to the daughters and their endeavor with HTM.

Driver's boat. *Noted.

How many times have you ever heard someone say a 25' Daytona is a "driver's boat"?

I think it's bad ass that boat ran 114 with a SBC. I rode in it back in the day and that was it for me.

I keep saying the new deck should have a merc 600/700

I'm not sure what direction motor stuff they are going to go, but I do believe Rob might build some of them from Rootz EFI. He's an excellent motor builder. He does real good work top notch. But I'd love to see a 1350 in the 306

Worst feeling ever being towed in.... I've experienced it 2 times. Once when the motor went and the second time the safety switch was bad and didn't know it. I had no power anywhere and couldn't figure it out. Turned out to be the clip [emoji849] ruined the weekend

New boats have to be Carb compliant and there only a few engine builders that are certified.

Well I don't know all of Robs certifications. I just know that they are talking about him building motors. He's built many of them and Alexi and Brian Macy have tuned his EFI setups.

I'm sure they will figure out what they need to make it work. I'm outta the loop now so I'll know when everyone else does. But I'd like to see them use some of the merc racing stuff.

Also I'd like to see them run some of the LSA marine motors that would be a decent power plant won't win you races but it's a solid motor and it would probably get the SS in the 80's lower 90's

I've seen an SS with a 496HO run 75-80

Twocents is way more knowledgeable on that subject than I am so I'll wait for him to chime in.. but not that long ago there was only a few engine builders that were truly carb compliant.. mercury, Teague, Ilmor. I would have to imagine marine power and some of the other big name Mfg's are certified by now though. The new fuel systems are all crazy EPA shit that all of the mfg's are really unhappy with. :(.
