Was visiting my in-laws in Ohio last summer. They took us on a drive and a stop at the Warther Museum. I am like "kill me now"
A museum of some dudes carving????
Holy crap. This guy carved replicas of every steam engine made. It is absolutely unreal...
Incredible vision, an immaculate eye for detail and great patience: Those are the attributes of Ernest “Mooney” Warther, master carver. Warther Museum, located at 331 Karl Avenue in Dover, is dedicated to the genius and perfection of Warther’s impeccable, unmatched carvings.
Watching them move it out of Pomona was incredible. Like real life size playing with trains. They kept moving pieces of track from one end to the other as they rolled it through the parking lot. Just seeing how massive the drive wheels are is crazy
When schedule permits, I love going to the rail museum when I am near York in England, they have a few of the record breakers over the years, the Mallard, the Hamilton Express, etc. Its so crazy when you see how small the "displacement" of the steam engine is. Keep in mind you get power strokes in both directions of the piston, but when you see it in person, and think of the power that is created, it kind of makes the power of steam terrifying
