Quality tequila.
Simple syrup.
Fresh lime juice.
Fresh Ice made with filtered water.
Yes, quality ice is very often overlooked when making cocktails.

Name a couple tequilas you consider "quality". Jan is the margarita girl in my household. She does like the costco stuff just fine.

That’s all subjective.
I’d recommend something that you could drink straight without making a face.
I like a nice reposado for margarita. Don Julio Reposado would be my starting point.
People fall Into the trap that if you use any mixer with cocktails, you can use cheap liquor.
While that can hold true with many drinks, like bloody Mary’s, you still want a decent tequila when making Margie’s with the recipe i posted. Simple, pure ingredients so hey should all be decent quality.

This is my fucktard recipe;

One can Frozen lime concentrate
One can full of tequila
3/4 can full of triplesec
Blend... Drink... Pass out.

Cheap ingredients are key. This is a quantity drink, not quality. :D

I've made this one before. Alton Brown's recipe. It is incredibly well balanced and smooth. So much so that cheaper silver tequila does not make it worse at all.

2 oz 100% Blue Agave Tequila

2 tbs Agave Nectar

1/2 Hamlin or Valencia Orange quartered

2 Limes quartered

2 Limes halved

1 thin lime slice (for garnish)

1 tbs Kosher Salt

3/4 cup Ice

I like cazadores for margaritas. Mine is simple tres aguaves margarita mix. A splash of soda water salt and lime to taste. Always finish with a floater of grand marnier.

Jan often will press fresh lime juice add a touch of seltzer water and skip all the nectars. Skinny Margarita On the Rocks with salt.
Some of the heavy syrups make her feel sick.
Grand marnier, cointreau, triple sec.

This is how I make 2 margaritas

4 oz Good tequila
2 oz triple sec
1 tbsp lime juice
2 oz gingerale
4 oz your favorite margarita mix.
(The gingerale to margarita mix ratio can be adjusted to taste)

1.5 -2 oz of chambord, countrau or equivalent if you want to.

Shake it over ice, pour it in 2 glasses over filtered ice.

Solid. That is what I would do w/ seltzer and lime in my margaritas to lighten them if needed.

I use gingerale (or diet) instead because I’m lazy.

Old school original, good silver tequilla, simple syrup and fresh squeezed lime juice, the more bitter the better, also add a floater of Damiana on top!

I add a squeeze of fresh lemon and cutie to mine....and when in a festive mood, skewer a piece of pineapple, blackberry and kiwi on top, and rocks, none of that slurpee stuff

Any recipe will be improved by adding Licor 43. It adds a richness that is just so damn tasty. First had one at Sevilla Long Beach.

Anybody remember El Cholo's? They made a pretty good margarita too.

Used to be all the bars/restaurants in Cabo used tap water for their ice. Ask me how I know. And you'd swear you never drank the water.

If you want to flip that damn shaker behind your back like a baton, go out on the lawn.....not my rule but one I must follow. And its stainless and has never come apart.

Here’s the recipe of Cabo’s Monkey Business. If anyone’s been there, they know it’s legit!

Recipe

“3-4 limes worth of juice

1-1/2 shots of quality blanco Tequila
They use el jimador at the bar if you don’t upgrade. No need to upgrade though!

1/2 measure Cointreau

1/2 measure bartender's syrup (agave syrup is even better)

Splash of OJ

Shake with ice, serve in salted glass. splash of orange juice before shaking”

This is our desert/camping marg mix that we have been doing for years. Some people are skeptical at first, but once they try it, they usually lining up for more.

1 can of Limeade concentrate
Tequila of choice (we use Hornitos for this)
One bottle/can of Corona
One can of sprite or 7-up. (I’ve used Fresca too, for a little less sweetness, but I don’t think it’s as good).
Salt

In a large pitcher pour in full can of Limeade. Fill the emptied limeade can with Tequila...pour in pitcher. Add corona and sprite. Stir well! Pour over ice filled glass and dash each drink with salt.
