Back in 1995 Jim Wilkes had a v-drive section in Hot Boat. Brian Lynch had started up a boat club in central California and Jim Wilkes published his letter. The Slingerlands the Harpers, Ron P, Mr. Van Beenen with Greg Shirley, the Eason family, Brad Cooper and possibly our own Riverbottom Richard were all early members into the club. Brian held club sponsored v-drive regattas in central and Northern California but also advertised individual outings (vacations) in his monthly newsletter. These outings brought a lot of us together back then.

The first individual outing I attended (1997) was held by Brad Cooper of River Speed and Sport in Blythe. His vacation took place at Red Rock Resort in Parker. A week prior I had told my sister about the trip. She had just started dating Billy B. and let him know there was a group of Hot Rod V-Drive boats about to descend on Red Rock Resort. With short notice Billy cleared his schedule and came out for the week loaded with the KKE in a box trailer in Superstock trim.

I had known of Billy before then from boat races but hadn't met him yet. So, I pull into Red Rock and meet Billy and Bobby and their 2 friends that they had brought with them. It turns out that I knew these 2 friends and went to High school with them. Small world. The following year Billy's Needles vacation was added to the v-drive newsletter and events took off and the rest is history.

@Sharp Shooter

I grew up going to Red Rock and remember these events very well! I dont think we were there in '97, but most likely 98-00's we were there. There is absolutely nothing better than tent camping at the waters edge in Oct. I have amazing memories of it. Im also really surprised that pics of my dads boat dont surface lol

I was there '97- 2003...? Didn't take many pics but shot a lot of video. Don't know who your dad is...?

Few other Christmas Parties over the years.
After the first Santa appearance we got politically correct and had Darnez play Santa the next year.
I had just finished T Blair’s Sanger that Billy capped. Can you imagine the BS flyin in the 3rd picture!

Here’s another year of Shenanigans.
Joe LaCamp dropped off his SS boat that day.

Any time Pat Eason is holding court it’s a good time! I remember the old Hot Boat and Performance Boat days and all the usual suspects stirring the pot. Tony Scarlata, Dave Rankin, Gordy, Ben Marrone, Dave Bryant, Lil Rick Ortega ,Billy B. Rattle Can Lou Campbell Carl the posts were epic! My favorite was Tony would post the animated cartoons featuring chops on Gordy, Dave Rankin and others. They were hilarious! Wednesday testing at Irvine Lake always seemed to turn into a party, you never knew who would show up. I guess a lot of people do Facebook now, some moved on, some are no longer with us but the memories last forever! Oh and Pat Eason for President!

Hey, I love the Minegar boys!
I originally put a piece of tape on the transom of Pat’s Nordskog when we did it that said “Rattle Can Lou View” because he was building a boat at the time and Pat told me the Nordskog needed to be faster.
So RCL was born!
He has always said that without me and Billy he’d be nothing!😂😂
Anyway always a good time drinking and singing Karaoke with the boys!
We even got Grich drunk enough to sing with us!👍😁
Eason wasn’t difficult to get drinking!

Great photos Jerry! So many characters and memories in those photos! My son and I went to one of the Needles Marina deals with Jack and Greg Landers, I think my check liver light was on for days! One thing I miss not racing is seeing your race family and friends, if you hang around long enough you basically know everyone.

I don't remember who did that, but probably a phone video. It was damn funny.
i just found it on FB, Steve Sequeira had posted it. I can't figure out how to save it to the computer and post it dang-it. @Sharp Shooter ?

Edit: Hopefully this works...

Ford Hemi, still haven't seen it.🧐 I know Eason has two Chrysler hemi late models, and he knows how to build them. My money is on Eason.
Yea, you probably know about the setbacks Billy has had with that as do I. Crazy stuff.

My son and I have been bugging Eason to put the Hemi in the K boat for years! My son worked for Jim Dunn for several years and has some good tune up ideas! Unfortunately I haven’t seen Billy in a few years, I have a few friends that store their boats at Billy’s. Need to stop and check out the KKE in it’s new creation!

Unfortunately no, but we reminded Pat every time we seen him! One of my favorite Hemi K boats was Ralph Cupolettis sp Dago Red Revenge out of Oregon. Raced with him in Washington, Burly and Canada. Super nice guy and family. I heard he still has the boat and maybe a restoration in the works.

Not really. I know he bought the original pieces here in Yuma. I went over to look at them for him before he made the decision to buy. It was some stuff for a large displacement NA engine. I'm not sure what happened after that.

I’m starting to think those ladies don’t know how to launch a boat. I better get down there and give them a couple hands…
When done giving the hand you should prolly give them some pointer too. You know, just for good measure n shit.

The one in pink? Yes, most deffinately. The others apperar to maybe work the fork n spoon more then the muscles...IDK? Lol

After the photos of Santa above... all 4 of em can get it. But yes particularly the one in pink.

The past couple pages has been a total flashback from when I was a kid lurking the wild v-drives threads on HB. Hud.. no idea who the guy is but boy did he facilitate a cool place to look at boats on the internet.
