I am far from a full blown tree hugger, and nothing pleases me more then to burn through our dwindling natural resources on the water and in my truck. But for a commuter / business car the Chevy Volt was hard to pass up. I’ve leased Camry’s for the company for the past 9 years, kind of tired of them and they are not leasing with good pricing currently.

I don’t think I could drive a Prius, but this volt has some decent looks, no range issues so we can take it to havasu, and a zero down 3 year lease under $300 is hard to pass up.

Plus dealing with Jason makes it so simple.

One of my business partners drives a 2018 Volt. I agree, it's an impressive Hybrid. GM got ahead of the crowd with that one.

Curious, did you look at the Fusion Hybrid? I see them around too.

I didnt look at anything other than another Camry, working with Jason makes it too simple, didnt really want to deal with anyone else. We got my wifes vette last year through him, he makes the process pretty painless.

0-40 it is very fast, and bizarre that it makes no noise while doing it, only noise is from the tires spinning. Takes some getting use to, its almost too quiet inside.

How does this work do you have to buy a charger? How much are they? I need to lease a new commuter In the next 30-60 days. But a corolla is only like 180-200

I had a first gen volt.

Very nice car, and the materials felt a class-up from my wife’s Prius.

You can plug it into a wall with the supplied charger, and charge it overnight.

You can buy a 220v charger which cuts charge time by 75%.

Or you can drive it and never charge it at all, and run it like a hybrid.

But the car drives much better when pure EV.

With a $50 adapter it will plug into our 50 amp RV plugs and charge in 4 hours, with the normal household plug charger that it comes with it’s 12 hours. Base model was $267 a month including tax, zero drive off, 10k miles a year. I don’t care about the miles, I’ll be way over and buy it and sell it at the end. And get another, that’s the route I’ve been for the last 9 years with three year leases on Camry’s. I’ve sold them all for very close the buy out so it’s a wash. We don’t put all the miles on our more expensive cars and trucks and get 4 times the gas mileage then we would in the vette, ram or grand Cherokee.

What is the buyout at end of lease? One thing with the Volt, resale value is crazy low

We leased a Bolt 2 years ago for a company commuter car. Basically to be used by whoever needs to go to LA and can use the car pool lane. It pays for itself in 2 weeks of every month plus saves us valuable time that would just be wasted in traffic. I think it has about 28,000 miles with no problems. Charges at night in the shop and is ready in the morning. With a 200 mile range we have never had a problem. I love that car and will drop it off and get another one when the lease is up.

I think I'm gonna try a Volt next. They definitely look better than the Prius by far.

I need something for commuting to CA every week. Currently running about 700 miles a week
Been looking at some CPO Altimas that get 39mpgs

According to Chevrolet website:
The 2018 Volt offers up to 53 pure electric miles†(1) and up to 420 miles†(1) with a full charge and a full tank of gas. This gives you the peace of mind to go as far as you want. Plus, the athletic design, impressive performance and intelligent driving technology make for a superb driving experience.

234$ + tax lic reg
On any lease the number grows unless you front all those fees. Like buying a used car off a lot 9,995$ is really 11,000$

They are kind of the reverse of a prius...You can use it only as an electric vehicle if you charge nightly or when the battery is dead it will run on just the 1.5L 4cyl engine.

I had no issues with my 2014 and really enjoyed it in electric mode. I don't think I had to change the oil once and barely ever used the gas engine.

@pronstar can probably tell you how to optimize the driving experience but imho it's not a great open road car/gas car once the battery dies......when you leave home for Havasu only use the battery for hills.

I would never buy one. Type in ‘nissan altima cvt transmission problems’ in google search. A lot get lemon lawed.
Had one go out at 48k Miles on a 2015. This is a weekly CVT transmission r&r at one of the dealership in So Cal.

The Volt holds up great, there are a few out there with close to 300k on them.
If you drive 700 miles a week, it isn't the best car for you. The electric range is only 50 miles on the new ones, the rest of the time you will be on gas @ 37mpg-ish. If you could charge at work maybe, then you could get 100 miles of electric a day.
A straight Hybrid like the Prius might be better, 50mpg no matter how far you drive. Super reliable. Not as sporty as the volt, but you do get a much larger rear seat, more headroom, and that Toyota resale.

Good info, thanks! Had no clue. I do know there are a lot of them used and some with less than 20k with multiple owners...was wondering whats up!

The volt still might be good for you if you can charge at work too. I like mine, the only thing that irritates me is that it's difficult to get in and out of for a 6' guy. Once you inside there is plenty of head room. The windshield is laid back pretty far and the roof height is low, so when tall guys get in you want to smack your ear on the roof, have to duck your head

We have a 2015 Prius C that gets 30k miles in commuting a year. Other than oil changes, it has been a great car. Mileage does go down if traveling in the hills a lot. Tow it on a dolly behind the motor home when we go on vacations/trips. The new ones look a lot nicer.

The new/current Volt is much more like a hybrid, and from what I understand has much less of a learning curve to operate LOL

It has a longer EV range, drives much better than the original when using gas, and also gets much better mpg when using gas [emoji106]

First drive to work today, pretty cool. The big hill on the 241 toll road took a big dent out of the electricity, tomorrow Ill try running on gas for the climb then change over to electric again. My office has free chargers, and my wifes 5 story parking garage has prefered parking on the first floor and free juice for electrics.

What is f'd up is the car pool sticker thing. I looked into it on line last night, they are only issuing red ones now and those are income based. Fucking california. If you make too much money you cant take advantage of the solo car pool deal anymore.

Good to know, I wasn't sure if they could sense a hill and switch over or what.

Unfortunately it seems that's the California way as of late...make the high earners pay for everyone else.

The Prius plug-in is called the Prius Prime now. The newer volt is a great car but it is much different than the Prius mechanically.

Like others I have a 2014 Prius plug in.
it's knocking on the door of 90,000 flawless miles it's on us set a replacement tires.

On a 50 mile commute with about 70% of freeway it's going to see about 70 miles per gallon .

Stop and go driving on the freeway he might even see 90 mph, longer commute/drive the lower the fuel economy and a bonsai freeway run to Las Vegas or Havasu will probably get you about 55 to 60 miles per gallon . Keep it below 75 and you'll probably get 70 Mph.

We're really shines is combined driving and around town 25 mile daily commute will see close to 100 miles per gallon if you charge it at each end .

I see a lot of them for sale with 250,000 miles or more I've never heard of the plug-in battery ever going bad I was at the dealer yesterday and they echoed the same. I think the key is to get the plug-in model.

Remember all the green sticker cars purchased prior to 2016 will lose their car pool status as of January 1. Eligible cars purchase now get three years plus or minus a couple of months . Current red sticker to be replaced with another one at the first of the year.

It's basically no difference in the cars now are those three years old is just the state of California forcing you to buy a new car it's all a political and purchase and tax game.

Why the hell would someone who doesn't make any money need to be in the carpool lane? Why the hell are they in a hurry? So they can get to their job at Mcdonalds? F that They should give those stickers to people who are actually contributing to society, the tax base, etc... not the poor. The poor can ride in the rickshaw lane. What poor person is driving a Prius anyway? Grads appears to be on vacation again which is a shame I would love to hear the logic on this one.
