The 3 motor one tows 14k. 500 mile range. Easy load system with integral ramp, shit tons of storage, air leveling suspension with decent travel.

The specs are decent even if it is ugly as sin. It will sell well to the koolaid crowd how already has one of his creations.

It won't even make a scratch in the big 3's ironclad grip on the light duty truck market.

I want to see it jump like a Raptor....or even manage any real off-roading.

BTW all bullet-proof glass acts that way....it absorbs the energy just like that by shattering.

I know my opinion is premature but the Tesla truck towing 14K just doesnt seem practical to me. Think about what a pain in the ass it would be logistically to find a charging station towing something and trying to park and plug in for an hour. Think Barstow and what a CF that is trying to find a place to park with your boat or 5th wheel in tow- Its doable but its a hassle sometime too.

Or what about the desert people who plan on towing a 5th wheel or toy hauler out into the middle of nowhere. Is your Toy Hauler generator enough to charge this thing and top off the batteries?

Now, if Musk had this ugly robotic looking thing, designed to be stealth against police radar/lidar, he would have created something.:p I'll pass. I'm sure Arnold is lining up to order one.;)

So youre agreeing that he is capable of competing with the big 3......

No, not currently. They do not have the scale or the R&D budget to compete. Their costs per car are like triple of the big 3. The Model S is a 8 year old design at this point. This truck is a replacement for someone with a Ridgeline, Gladiator, Tacoma or Colorado, not an F150, Silverado, Ram or Tundra.

They have acquired people with talent and experience and seem to be capable of building niche automobiles, however.

I thought this thing was supposed to tow 40,000 lbs?

By the way I read earlier somewhere that when he broke the window he actually said “oh my fucking god” live on stage.. lol.

That all said if it has a legit 500 mile range, toes the 40k, does zero to 60 in 2.9 has the autonomous driving, and is priced below 50k like they originally said.. and it looked like the renderings they put out awhile back, then maybe.

I don’t know wtf that thing is on stage but that is something from a sci-fi movie from the 80’s as others have said.

Where do you think Robby Gordon got his SXS marketing strategy from?

I'm thinking, this thing Musk shown is a publicity stunt, nothing else. He must have the real thing somewhere, hidden from public eyes, doing finishing touches on it before the real unveiling.;) Remember the first Lambo SUV? Not many liked that one either.

Ugly, but nowhere as ugly as the T-truck:p

I'm trying not to react - I'm sure its just another spoof that the leader of that company thinks is funny or great marketing or something...

He cant be serious about this as his first try at building a 1/2 ton truck.

I think he is serious at this point? Tesla has done a great job of building a brand, and they may have turned the corner and now Musk thinks people will buy ANYTHING if it has a Tesla name on it.

I think the only saving Grace the company possibly has now is the semi performing with anywhere near decent range and MAYBE the next roadster coming through as well.

Lets be realistic here, we all know he makes a lot of noise about the big 3 for obvious marketing purposes. We also all know hes not trying to take the market share of the Light/Medium truck class. (....or is he?!?). But to say that he isnt capable of competing with them because " he doesnt have decades of engineering experience gained from hundreds of thousands of vehicles" is utterly absurd and down right ignorant. Again, were talking about the same guy behind space x here........

Go crawl under an F-150 and look at all of the minute pieces that allow it to work and tow for 100,000 miles just by putting gas in it.

The Tesla's sloped body prevents access to the bed. That kills it as a work vehicle.

I think your position is much more ignorant than mine.

OTD I bet most of the trucks will be in the six figure range. Seems like you can double their introduction price and be close on actual retail.

Is the truck used in the roll out an actual running driving unit or just a mock up of what it will look like once it’s done?

MT is reporting that the payload is 3500 lb for all models. It's 231" long which for reference is 2" shorter then a 2019 Ram 1500 short bed crewcab...so it will fit in my garage still.

Ha. The big 3 make plenty of profit on EACH truck they sell.
What I meant is that RDP members were expecting something that would replace their XLT f150.

If you're Elon why would you enter a market & compete with 3 multi billion dollar corporations?

It's much easier to sell to the asphalt badasses that have money to burn. Same way the raptor is popular. Sure there are guys who run them hard in the desert, but its my experience in so cal that 90% of the owners use them to get groceries.

Give it 4wd and you can hit Tahoe & Mammoth with the family and make sure to hit all the pricey shops and restaurants.

EDIT: its no secret all of the big 3 make way more margin on the "Platinum, Ltz, Laramie " levels of trim

To clarify I'm not knocking anyone who would want to buy one of these. In fact I think its a little fugly but will be a baddass ride. But if you want practical buy a camry.

This "Cybertruck" is going to be Unibody construction - not body-on-frame.

From every angle this thing is hideous...

Not long ago, extremely bright European driiving lights were banned to use on public roads, until BMW and Mercedes cars came with them from the factory. Now, every Tom,Diick and Harry think it's cool to have the brightest aftermarket lights on their cars, 9600K , even worse when on trucks with higher placements. It's bad enough when some old geezers with shitty night vision keep running their high beams, on even after you flash them.
This Tesla truck has lights wide across the front fascia with more above the windshield. I'm sure some fucktard buying one, would use those lights on regular roads too.:( I had to adjust the light on my F-150 because the factory setting was too high. All F-150's have a forward slant with the bed sitting higher, and I think when you load the bed or hook up a trailer, the rear squats down an inch or two, makes the light aim even higher when the truck sits level. No one gives two shits anymore if vehicles are set up right for safety. Rant over.:p

The news is reporting they’ve taken pre-orders for 150,000 of his Frankentrucks.

What was the deposit, $100.00 and a hand rolled joint?
