And there are thousands of familes who had loved ones killed by a home owner that shot them breaking in calling for guns to banned. It's an emotional argument, not necessarily a rational one when you lose a family member

No emotion but joy there on that one.

I can't imagine how stupid people must be to take a nap or read while using autopilot, it fucks up all the time, enough to tell you to never trust it. To give you an example, if you are familiar with the 5 freeway going north through Mission Viejo that has been under construction, lanes have temporary markings and jog around the construction area. This morning I tried it in that section, at first it was centering in the lanes fine and following the car in front, then without any warning, it went straight instead of following the lane marker. I caught it before it got into anybody but still makes you not trust it. Obviously, I should have not even tried it in an area with temp lanes but still, it should be smarter and not even engaged in those conditions. As long as you know those limitations it's not a bad tool, just don't ever trust your life in a machine that says it can drive itself, all tech has bugs and there will always be some corner case that the code can't deal with.

Where are the stats on how many lives auto pilot have saved? The damn cars won't let you go into a lane where another car is. It can be annoying overriding it. It's like a stall warning going off...

Same article that tells you how many lives Covid Vaccines saved.

The problem as you just noted is that the car decides who lives and who dies based on programming and averages. Which is why autopilot is not going to be autopilot at all anytime soon.

You may have a valid reason for going into a lane where another car is because that is the more survivable situation. Or the car thinks there is a lane where one does or does not exist.

No, that avoidance system is way more beneficial .. Trust me.. It saves people from slamming into each other. And by the way you can easily override it, easily... It's just would learn that it's another tool to save you.

I wished you had some real seat time in Tesla's.. You talk so much about them, your friends have them, you hear things. But don't have much real seat time in them to make a fair judgement on them. So you keep on talking about them from an economical and political stand point. But you don't drive these cars like some of us do. Just like a Speed car, I have no experience driving them at all so I can't really speak like an expert on them. But here you are.... It's what you do... :)

I’ve driven them and been in them since 2013. I also know people that have been maimed and killed in them because of the tech.

It’s just a car. I don’t need the car to save me and bring me salvation 😂. Teslas are not my religion. If they are yours, great.

You act like it is... It's just a car, buddy.... So, Tesla's are killing people now? It's so hard to keep up... Everyday it's something new with guys like you. But it always turns up as Bullshit.. Just internet talk.. I'm surprised someone like you falls for it...

More and more people will be killed driving Tesla's as they are everywhere now. They are a dime a dozen, is that number gonna go up? Yes

Good thing they are some of the safest cars you can buy..

Not knowing much about Teslas or EV's in general, what type of service did it need? With all the tech, anything from touch screens to climate control programming are a bit different as opposed to the old stuff I work on. Even stuff that high tech probably powers the same relays, servos and such a regular car has. Just like any car, bound to have problems with something at some point.
The recall service was for a wiring harness for the rear camera. It moves up and down with the trunk lid, just needed to add a small part so the cable does not crimp. Like most people in a recall, I never had an issue but I just had the service done anyway.

EV builders are now going through a brutal shakedown.
New EV 9's, some dealers are offering $12K off MSRP before they even arrive. Still too expensive IMHO, but a nice vehicle/kid and dog hauler none the less.
EV Mustang some areas a 1005 day inventory of unsold vehicles on dealer lots. If lucky maybe a $2k discount go the online tales. Really expensive.

Charging on the road is the issue along with spending 45 minutes in a Walmart parking lot if you find a charger that works.

Light years nicer and at the same price as the Tesla at the Car Show we spotted a BMW i4. The show model had the easy to look at i5 front grille. No i5s. The stunning young German girl rep with a push up bra and tight sweater had no answers, even when asked in German so we dunno if the easier to look at i4s will even be available. BMWs web pages show the old ugly grills on the new i4.

Maybe the MFGs are waiting for Trump to get elected and the whole scene will change for their benefit. It has to it will benefit everyone.

Rumor in the EV forums is the BMW may take a bath on the i5's.
MB re-thinking their EV strategy.

The bad ass EV out there now is the newest version of the Porsche Taycan, the Turbo s. State of the art and fantastic.
Amazing car at a whopping $220.000.00.
The depreciation will be record setting and mind blowing.

Chevy Bolt EV's used are quite the bargain, $16,000 ish for a 2020 and then you may qualify for a $4,000. rebate if you buy from a dealer.

Great commuter car if you have solar!
Owners love them. Figures GM would stop production.
I wager they'll replace it with a white label China built version.

I've been enamored by the Taycan since its introduction. But until very recently I was not aware of the severe depreciation these cars are experiencing. The depreciation appears to be running at $4 per mile driven since new. Here's a 2022 w/ 10,000 miles. Sold for $70K, MSRP $110k. And here's a 2020 w/ 25k miles sold $66k, MSRP 167k. Both right at $4 per mile.

For a Taycan owner at sale time, it's gotta' be painful.

I like them and I would like to get one for a commuter but I am worried about Chevy pulling the plug again and then I am stuck with a car and no replacement parts?

Parts is where they make the money. GM has killed lots of models over the years. I wouldn't worry.

I drove one often last summer at work and really enjoyed it. Quick and easy to park made it my first choice for running errands.

TSLA is one stock I’m keeping a close eye on to buy when it bottoms out later this year. IMO - Their profits are going to skyrocket in 2026 when the Model 2 hits the streets! j/s

One thing that gets me. You have to use your phone hands free. Yet every new car has a big assed touch screen that is perfectly legal to fuck around with while driving
Right on. Our 2010 Grand Cherokee's navigation system can only be set for routing while the vehicle is stopped. wondering if the newer models are different now. I'm sure 90% of Tesla and other vehicles with those big azz screens fiddle with them while driving.

The only Tesla I'd buy if going crazy would be the roadster. Every Tesla on the road is the same boring design.
