One of my customers commutes into Santa Monica everyday with his Tesla on auto pilot. He swears by it, so I decided to go try one out and set up a demo ride. Sales guy put me in it an says it’s like an iPhone to operate, have fun and sends me down the road. I punched in an address and started to pull out of the parking space then engaged the auto pilot. It drove out of the parking lot couple times and stop sighn, then hops on the freeway and hails ass up to merging speed. It was amazing, it changed lanes a few times with cars around then exited the freeway and navigated the local streets flawlessly with cars around.

I’m sold on it LOL

My son stopped using his due it's tendency to swap lanes with no cars around and no apparent reason to do so. This in addition where on one occasion it drove tried to drive straight ahead despite the road curving. Enjoy 😁

I was at Home Depot yesterday in the parking lot walking to my truck. A Tesla with nobody in the vehicle backed out of a handicap parking spot, drove by me to the end of the isle, turned left, and drove to the exit door and picked up an older couple. Is this legal for the vehicle to drive itself without anybody in the vehicle?

That’s badass, I didn’t use that button on my demo. I really don’t need a. Self driving car as I only drive about 2 miles to work, but I want one LOL

I'm not a fan of self driving vehicles in a heavily populated environment.

So yeah.. You demo’d “Full Self Driving” and not “Auto Pilot”.. FSD cracks me up, cuz the car does whatever it wants while navigating to your destination. The lane changes are pretty nutty, it turns on the blinker and dives into the lane next to you with authority. Tesla keeps giving me 30-day demos of it and I have it for the month of November, and as much as I like it for certain situations I don’t see myself upgrading to it as the price is just too much for it. Plus, in LA traffic I need to be more aggressive than the car. Auto Pilot is plenty for me. Auto pilot is great when you’re in traffic and want to get some shut eye. lol
It just won’t change lanes, which I don’t mind. Tesla keeps working on it it it has really improved over the years.

I also have Fords version of Auto Pilot in my F150 “Bluecruise”.. It pales in comparison to Tesla’s.

The tech in the car is what you’re paying for. Some have a difficult time understanding this. I still absolutely love mine. Most incredible car I’ve ever driven.

That’s FSD or Full Self Drive. Pretty cool stuff and it freaks out my wife when I use it. Summons brings the car to you from a parking lot (part of FSD). Auto Pilot is more like GMs Super Cruise where it keeps you in the same lane autonomously and X distance from the car in front of you.

I had the trial earlier his year for our 19 Model 3. Didn’t like it. The turning in residential type of neighborhoods was jerky. Coming up to a stop sign same thing.
Like Dan I also have a trial for November. Haven’t tried it yet. Maybe give it a try.
I know I’d never pay for it but I might use it if free and works for my liking.

I’m not sure what the option is called, but it’s $8000 and I thought is was really cool, the rest of the car was nothing exciting. All I know is when I pulled the little lever down to engage it, it drove me around quite well. This was in a model Y car I believe.

Funny thing…
A couple years ago the wife comes in after washing her car and says she has 5 alerts of pending $8,000 withdrawals from our account. Lo and behold her Tesla app turned on while in her pocket and the FSD purchase was pressed 5 times 😳
Thank god the bank verified it first.

A guy walked outta COSTCO and stopped at the parking lot edge, I sat at the food Kiosk, and his driverless Tesla pulled up to him and he loaded his groceries and it drove him away.
We're looking forward to never use a Taxi cab nor Uber again. Well, I am, the wife isn't sold on it.

Wife’s Tesla has the OG full self driving. It’s a POS. If a semi even comes close to coming into your lane it slams on your brakes. Scares the F out of you.

Rumor is, when you see some tard in a Tesla on autopilot playing on their phone....change lanes 2 feet in front of 'em and the autopilot will stand on the brakes and bounce 'em off the steering wheel....I've yet to try it, but I want to lol.

If you’re stuck in traffic and need to merge, Tesla will take over let you in so you don’t collide 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I tried swerving towards one like I was gonna side swipe it. I was hoping it would slam on the brakes so I could get in front of it. Didn't work.

Like you said you have to get in front of it and then do it. Haven't had a chance to try that either.

While autopilot is a neat feature, we should all be aware how some of these “buyers” are using it.

One idiot dude I sort of worked with bought one for the sole purpose of the car driving him from Santa Clara to Sacramento while he slept in the backseat…..

I called him a thoughtless asshole to his face numerous times because of this. I was hoping to provoke him.

I then asked to be let aware when he would pull this shit so I could warn friends and family of this dickweed….

We have a free trial on the wife’s car and inside it the other night. Thoroughly impressed with it and have been considering adding the feature.

That’s a rumor. There was a breaking feature that would stop too quickly in similar events but that was fixed in recent updates.

Does the insurance premium increase if you add the feature?

Maybe Im just a jerk (i probably am), but when I need to merge lanes in traffic and see a Tesla, I just put my truck in front of those things and whether its the driver or an auto-breaking feature, I’ve never had a problem merging in front of one.

Carry on.

Not sure how he’d do that. It watches your eyes and needs you to touch the wheel periodically….

Maybe you, but I place a much higher value on being aware of pending conditions, peer behavior, and being pro-actively predictive and not being limited to simply having quick reactions.
That "WE" and any national statistics that favor that, includes a vast number of mindless, distracted drivers with horrible skills that are responsible for the huge cost of insurance.

I enjoy driving, but I really would like to turn on "George" on long trips and go into system monitoring mode. Just like flying, I love to get up and go spend an hour cranking and banking, but when I'm on a cross-country it's far more enjoyable to let the autopilot handle the chores.

Pass. Since when is driving a car such a laborious chore that you need your car to do it for you?

Serious question, In FSD, if you hit something, do unsafe lane change or get caught speeding in a newly posted construction zone, who gets the points on their license? The Tesla AI, the person in drivers seat or owner of car?

But there is a porn dude that posts nothing but him hosing down hose monsters, (not) while diving his Tesla!!!

His eyes are Definitely NOT on the road!!!

🤣
Hmm I’ll have to try that and get back to you. Maybe Elon gives exceptions for certain activities. 😂

Handy on boats when we're trolling for hours too. It's a disturbing reality check when you awake from dozing off in the sunny cockpit and realize the bridge watch is sound asleep and you're on a dead heading with an 800' container ship running full tilt. On another occasion, it wasn't a vessel, but 4 minutes from merging with the rocky cliffs of the South Coronado Islands.
I would have a great deal of difficulty remaining alert, attentive and not nodding off during on a long drive when my only job was to sit there on watch.
Sure, maybe in the beginning as you built up your trust you'd be more attentive, but that won't last long.

I thought you had to hold the wheel or wedge an orange in there, so it wouldn't kick off? Seems like now you don't need to do that? That's pretty awesome

If I had to commute in rush hour traffic I would 100% get one, tint the windows and take a nap. Hell one can be clever and set up GPS alerts on a phone app to sound an alarm if you're going faster than say 40mph, so you'd get waken up once you're out of traffic. I'd love that lol

Waymo in PHX is my go-to when there. I had to have a few cocktails to persuade me the first time, but now it is the only service I use. They are 100% driverless and I am amazed every time how well they navigate. They are even offering airport pickup now! Im not buying a Tesla, but if I was, it would have this feature!
