Automation is great, until itā€™s my job thatā€™s getting ā€œautomatedā€.

Heaven help us if automation comes around, and we have tens of millions of people sitting around with nothing to do and no paycheck.

"Brandon & KaMaLa" will help you! They seem to have plenty of money to throw around.šŸ¤”

Not if your a citizen:mad:

I was surprised by how widespread this "FEMA" Story is getting reported. While channel surfing this morning several "Fake News" Outlets were discussing it.

Just another lying Deceit from this Administration. How Much is there that we don't know, OR afraid to learn?

This Open Border will be an "Anchor" on this Country as long as this Fucked Up Administration is in control.

AND to respond to an earlier Statement - At least in this case, "YES" I am A "RACIST";)

Just looked at 5 ā€œnewsā€ websites. ABC, NBC and CBS didnā€™t have anything on FEMA running out of money. Fox and DailyMail both covered it.
CBS did want to let everyone know Biden is heading to Florida and Georgia to make sure heā€™s seen. NBC let everyone know that only 1% of NC people have flood insurance.

That won't even be enough to repair interstate 40 at the rate the government spends money.

I better buy like 24 packs because apparently everyone on rdp is a doomsday prepper and pay cash for everything. šŸ˜

I split the 2 ply into single ply and finance anything possible
Thatā€™s because youā€™re a Needles land Barron.

Curious what caused them to concede to a cooling period.

While I can agree with what youā€™re saying. Thatā€™s also a short sided view on commerce as a whole.

We should absolutely do things faster and more efficiently.
The only thing that makes the economy of any capitalist country grow are gains in productivity. Wage increases without increased productivity result in a net negative effect, reduced profits across the enterprise, and ultimately lower GDP growth. It's not up for argument, and an inescapable fact.

The ridiculous wage and benefit gains sought by the longshoremen union will place a price penalty on everything associated with the movement of goods by international shipping, all the way from the ports of origin across the world to the consumer's homes in Idaho and South Dakota. According to information I have found, the East Coast and Gulf ports move about $60 billion in goods every month.

I don't know enough about economics to estimate the dollar amount of cost increases that will ultimately be imposed on those goods. But I can provide one good prediction. Those dock workers sure as hell aren't going to be working any harder after the strike is settled.

Knowing human nature and the culture their union supports, I believe it's going to be the opposite. They'll work even less, to punish the ports for the wage losses incurred while they sat on their asses at home and the inconvenience of walking the picket line once a week for a four hour shift.

So you think the strong language from the union boss telling biden to stay the f*ck out of this was a front?

Not saying I wouldn't put it past them.
Union boss man created fear in everyone. Matter of one day and no more ass paper. Imagine what it would like like after 2 months. The fear he pushed is exactly what any political party in charge doesnt want to see or deal with. At that level of negotiations its just not unions and companys. There was some back door deals made.

I don't get the TP fear, that's all domestically made.

The majority of toilet paper used in the United States, including Costco's Kirkland brand, is made domestically, with some production occurring in Louisiana. Costco partners with multiple suppliers, including Georgia-Pacific and Sofidel, to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality toilet paper.

EDIT

People are stupid

People are afraid, which is commonly manifested by acting irrationally when presented with an apparent crisis of which they have no control.
How do you escape the fear mongers and overly sensationalized news world we're enveloped within ?
Log onto our favorite boating website forum perhaps, surely there we can escape the constant pounding of the tribal drums.
Ahhhhhhh, if only that were true, unfortunately it's not.

I think DeSantis bringing in the Florida National Guard to keep the ports operational had a big impact. But that's just my opinion. They would likely still be slow, but they would be open. Other states like Georgia and NC would have been able to do the same thing, possibly VA also. Any state that has been classified as a disaster zone could have followed suit. That's nearly half the ports. I doubt the union picketers are going to throw rocks at the National Guard, LOL. Tough guys until they're not. šŸ˜‚

I may be incorrect, but it's my understanding that this was already part of FEMA funding under the CR until Dec. This is nothing "extra" that the Harris-Biden admin is offering. Again, I could be wrong, but I saw that $20 million number when someone was discussing the CR funds. They can continue on the same fiscal level that they were on last FY until Dec. No additional funding.

Just saw that Max wage was 39 an hour under the old agreement that just expired. How the hell do 1/3 of the workers make over 200k a year with a max base rate of 39 an hour? How much overtime are these guys working?

I think if the union leaders were able to pull their heads out of the collective asses they would adjust their CBA or talk to the appropriate union about joining their cause to lump the installation, operation, and repair of those machines into a cumulative agreement. Put into the CBA a phase in plan of the automation. Cause trying to stop a train by hurting yourself and your neighbors isnt going to work.

This same scenario happens whenever a new technology comes out. This is how originally (and still surprisingly) plumbers and their pipe fitters union were able to bring Air Conditioning under their purview. It had an element of their trade so they snatched up the work. The same argument could have been made for electricians back then.

Similar to the longshoreman and the automation here.

My personal opinion is 45k working people didn't want to live through the holidays essentially unemployed and this option gives them the best chance to get new contracts and not have to endure those hardships.

They took a 62% pay increase over 6 years to stop the strike.

Details are still being worked out.

I think to many thought the dude was a thug and when he started threatening America he was told to tone it down and get an agreement or face the alternative on his own. Nobody wanted to put up with that bullshit he ran out of his mouth, even the longshoreman that were striking.
