I definitely Don’t like the sounds of this. I’ve never heard of anybody ever getting sick on the outstanding homemade tamales available around Christmas. Often made by MexAmerican Moms and Grandmas. Labels, registration etc etc etc. That’s NOT going to happen.

Well, look at that California is not at the forefront of a stupid law. 🤣
Hey Arizona Neighbors come over to Cali where you can get your food prepped in a porta potty and it is all good.
Unless you own an established restaurant then they will rape you with fees, inspections and regulations👍🏻

My in laws gave my wife and I cooking lessons to a tamale making class years ago. I really didn't want to go but after going through the class I must say I learned a lot, mainly that I'm willing to pay someone to make tamales for me.

I'm thankful that home kitchen products are regularly sold at our weekly farmers market back home. Some of the best bread, pies, cookies, jams, dried goods you name it, are commonly sold on FB marketplace, street corners, church, and community events. Our hutterite community has full on grocery stores out off the beaten path where you can get some of the best food.

However, you can't get a good taco to save your ass. Tamale's, forget about it, but maybe some frybread.

We have always had tamales on Christmas Eve. For many years a couple employees gave them to my Dad and then when I took over they gave them to me, knowing my Dad was eating with us and benefiting as well. The employees retired and I asked some of our installers where I could BUY some for Christmas Eve, this was 5 years ago.
They said they’d buy them and get me some. Exactly what I DIDNT want to happen, happened! These two guy’s wives have made us tamales for the last five years and delivered them hot to my house Christmas Eve. Today I told them this is the last year. I’m grateful big time for their respect and generosity but I really don’t want to put them out. I really doubt they’ll stop so I suggested next year they bring their wives and we make them at my house a few days before, they liked the idea.
Each year we give them some gifts in return.
I guess these simple acts really is the essence of what Christmas is all about.

Maybe we’re Tamale Christians instead of Tamale Nazis?

No taxes, no tamales for you...
There are safety concerns but who and where do you draw the line?

If I don’t know you and your living standard of cleanliness then I’m not eating anything you make. Restaurants are an exception of course. Lots of people out there that have cats walking their kitchen counters and just have bad hygiene. No pot lucks for me 🫢

I used to buy them through my students when I worked in Perris. It was great because someone else made them. Wish I had some right now to make some tamales w/chili con carne y huevos para el desayuno esta mañana de Navidad (with eggs this Christmas morning for you gringos).

Very sad to hear this new law, personally. I doubt it will be truly enforced. They'll take $$ from law-abiding folks and let the others just go on about their day.

There’s a guy that’s been selling tamales for years in the Food 4Less parking lot out of his minivan.
I’ve been tempted many times, but what you typed above has always kept me from getting some.

On one hand, they’re probably good as the guy has done it so long and at the same place. And if I get sick I can go back and ring his bell.
On the other hand... cat people are gross.😂 so just Nope!!!

There a guy standing on a corner 5 miles east of nowhere on the way to el mirage. I stopped once, now I stop when I see him on the way to the races. Pretty good frutas on a hot evening with a little rum poured in there.💀

At work, we would buy from a lady on Valley and Soto or eastern. Started with a shopping cart moved to an Astro van. For at least 15 years. We did our Christmas party with her. At least 15 dozen. Nobody ever got sick.

Best tamales I ever had was from the lady next to the dirt road leading to the sand dunes in Ensenada. But she had access to a BATHROOM!

Neighbor just brought over this year’s Christmas batch. Now I am in fear of eating them. Nah going to have them for lunch today.

My wife is Mexican and with that came her and her sisters making Tamales most every year....that is until I helped and saw what went into them. I don't eat tamales anymore. That lard is nasty! Don't get me wrong, they are good, but even my fat ass has boundaries.

For many years there was a lady who sold her outstanding tamales in the Safeway parking lot in Parker AZ. Then with covid she disappeared. I’ve heard she came back. But, I’ve yet to time it right when she’s there. Has anyone else encountered her and her outstanding tamales? Is there any particular day and time when she’s there?

We sold tamales for a fundraiser when I coached youth NPL soccer, damn near every door the boys knocked on bought them. We had a lot of Hispanic kids so the moms tamales where legit, we sold tons. After the second year the moms said they where done, way to much work.... all the tamales where made in a home that was very nice and clean.

I understand the worry about buying them from some beater car in a parking lot or a pop up on the side of the road as they don't have bathrooms , that's pretty scary and I'll pass !!

You on the Parker area chatter group on FB? They often mention when she is there.

Same with a local guy in my city.

I had a tamale guy next door to my house in the hood. He made 600 a day to avg 300 a day profit.

There was another local guy. Now he has a business front. Tamale Man. He was always super cool to me. Makes these giant tamales with all types of toppings. Someone made a tic toc of his location and it blew up. Line around the corner for like 2 years straight. So long I quit going as the wait was a hour plus. Last I heard he turned into the Tamale Nazi. Just like that soup nazi guy. Now I drive by and it's always empty. He used to make huge to go batches and was always pretty slow on the walk ins. Hopefully he saved some of that money.
