Tires are one thing but having bearings and hardware to match the hugely increased rpms is another.

The rpm differences between the 20.5x8.00/10 and a 205/70-14 is ~200 rpm at 60 mph. 1014 vs 796 rpm, respectively.

Bearing service likely neglected.

those are probably tent trailer wheels/tires. They make them in 8", 10" and 12" and are DOT approved. Used to have a tent trailer back in the day. Tried to use golf cart wheels but they weren't rated high enough. Tires will be fine for weight and speed (make it in all different load ratings) but you have to keep an eye on wheel bearings as they turn so fast that they can sieze if run dry or loose. Probably what happened here then twisted off the spindle.

Although the tire speed is faster, RPMs, the bearing speed is not that much faster if at all. Hubs for those tires have smaller diameter bearings.
Now if you put those tires on an axle that was originally built for a 14 inch rim, that's a whole nother issue.

I use a dolly trailer / 10” wheels. Tires came from e trailer . Com. When I got it it had load B tires. Replaced them with load E figuring the extra sidewall strength would be good when a pot hole swallows one. I do the bearings every season just like any other trailer. And I do tow pretty close to speed limit.

I do it because it takes 4’ off the width of the trailer. That allows me to store it and my Jeep in the only space I have to work with.

I’ve put a lot of miles on it. So far been ok. Knocking on wood right now. lol

Racers have towed on road Dolly’s for years. @cyclone drove over 700 miles with his dolly trailer in tow. My buddy has a winger on a dolly. He races all over and takes it to the lake. No issues. He is very on top of bearing maintenance and checks them often. I love our dolly trailer. Makes working and storing boat so much easier.

With the zoomies it would he difficult..

That said if my friends did that I’d tell them to take it down. I’m not big on charity though.

I don’t even know how many 10’s of thousands of dollars of medical bills are coming my way shortly..

People want to help? Go down to the store and buy some swag! But I’ll jever in my life put a hand out.

If boat fell off trailer or trailer comes loose causing pile up, your auto liability coverage will kick in. Comp/collision is not covering damage to his boat....

I don’t know what it’s gonna be yet. I have pretty good insurance so I got my fingers crossed.

Most of us use dolly trailers for purpose not “look”. You gain a ton of garage space tucking the wheels under the boat as well and access while working on it greatly improves. Really Dave...? “The look”?

I bought a homeless guy a donut yesterday morning, but I have a hard time putting forward to a boat project of this nature. Its a sad story, I hope I don't go to hell because of this thought :(

Just to be safe I think you should be here a toilet when you open them. You don't want the house to be another China Buffet accident. LOL

Bullshit! you shouldn't worry about going to hell because of your thought on this. The poster of the charity request should have that worry in my opinion. What happened to his daughter is a tragic event, what happened to his boat and trailer is an accident separate from his daughter's event. was it lack of maintenance or a freak accident, who knows but to mingle those two for a charity request is bullshit!

Most auto insurance policies will extend coverage to trailers if they are being pulled by your insured vehicle at the time of an accident. Lets hope they had auto insurance.

They only extend liability coverage on what is being towed. There would not be any physical damage coverage extended under the auto policy.

You have an enclosed. There are plenty of guys building them as straight up tow trailers.

But not for “the look”. lol

And for the record, mine has DOT tires, license plate with current tag with working lights. It’s been towed outside the enclosed from Puddingstone lake, to and from both Prime marine and Concept marine and Billys Upland paint shop at least once. Haha!!! :D

I've never asked for handouts even when I was out of work for two years due to some health issues.

It was a dolly trailer, serviced or not, less room for error with that trailer losing an axle than a conventional one. Add 75+mph and you have exhibit A.

I'm not a fan of this handout request, much like a certain handout for a retired Cop that died in an expensive toy awhile back. The fact the guy was a retired Cop had 0 to do with his demise, and it had no place in bringing it up for raising money.

I know many guys who have logged thousands of miles on their dolly trailers successfully but I’m not risking it.

There’s times I’ve hit construction zones, pot holes, junk that fell out of some retards poorly loaded pickup or work truck and wondered how the hell the enclosed is going to manage it much less a boat on golf cart tires.
