How do you like the handling with the shorty vs the traditional drive?

Looks like the cruising speeds have increased substantially!

The boat rides flatter but is a little more loose in the rear. Handling in rough is significantly better as now the boat has a flatter angle of attack instead of of being nose high like before. General consensus is the boat rides considerably better than before. So far anyone that's ridden in it has commented how smooth it is compared to before.

The boat as a whole is significantly better. Downside is before anyone could get behind the wheel and drive no problem that's not the case anymore. The boat requires some seat time.

Now we have to focus on getting the prop dialed in. Right now I have a labbed 28 on the boat that was modified for the old set up. It's not 100% right for the new setup. we quickly run out of prop and it wants to lift the tail at speed. Next trip out I will be putting on a stock 30 and going from there.

The reason I asked is because the Sport Master has a longer skeg and is known for better handling.

Bill did you do a Sport Master or Imco?

In talking to Al he said the setup we have now is "The" setup for a 224. This was all laid out before the build started. We wanted to keep the handling and reliability the boat had before but with increased speed. We gained a ton of speed and IMO the boat handles better. The one common thing everyone has been in it has commented on is how "smooth" the boat rides compared to how it did prior to the changes.

Does it ride smother due to the ass not dragging....?

Previously it would need more positive trim to run at speed. Now the drive runs relatively neutral, or even a little negative. So the boat doesn't "fly" off the rollers. It seems to run more flat across. Kinda hard to explain.

We haven't done any messing with props yet just out the prop from the old setup on and ran it. Next trip will start with a stock 30p bravo and then start fine tuning.

Not a single schiada out here. In this rough water.

Thats easy water for my rig. Its the lightning that keeps me of the lake.

Have fun and be careful.

The entire lake was white capped. And the rollers were going over the dock I was standing on.

I don't see any caps of white in the photo? Just a couple ripples and a stoker guy saying it's rough out. :D

This morning at 6am it was blowing. I guess looking at the pic it seems light. But the video shows how rough it was.

Oh. I had just gotten to bed at 6 rookie.

Looks great Bill. Very happy for you and your family. Nothing like the re-birth of an old friend, and it is clear that boat is part of your family.
