The SxS trip from Canada to Mexico looked to be a great adventure but it seemed like it was more of a race to get from one place to another.
I would like to do a SxS trip but the goal would be to see, do and meet people along the way, with no particular schedule.
I think a small core group is a good idea but I want to meet up with other people and have them show us there favorite places so the core maybe 5 cars and then meeting small groups along the way.
The trip could be many weeks at a time with breaks to go back to real life
For me I figure at least a year before I could do this while money is not a problem I will have to train one of my guys to handle day to operations of my trucking business, my other problem is bigger my wife does not yet share the desire for this adventure.
I like the idea of staying in a hotel most nights but camping under the stars some nights also.
I am 60 years old and have decided while I'm not ready to sell it all off and retire I need to start working less and doing more if not now when, i don't see me being more adventurous at 70+
So anybody else think this sounds like a good idea.

Huel Hauser of the offroad...people know their local areas better that those passing through, the views, stories and history. By doing it spread out over a longer time frame, it would open up different options, like fall colors in some places, avoid blizzards in others, etc.
The border to border run in a week took a lot of moving parts and logistics. The planning was epic. I thought about it though, and the window to do it temperature wise is pretty narrow. Freezing balls to frying 🤣

No matter what, post pictures, have fun and don't get too lost;)

While I enjoyed following your adventure I wondered a little bit why you didn't take some time to explore the areas you were passing thru, figured you had your reasons so none of my business. You guys did an amazing job with your adventure and I admired everything about your event.
I like your ideas for future events. Thanks for taking us along. I'm sure each subsequent event will only be better and better..

I had nothing to do with that trip but it has inspired me.
I did not post in that thread as I did not to step any toes

I agree with your sentiments, especially about getting older and enjoying life while still able. Would love to do something like this and the wife would be on board as long as she sleeps in a hotel, she is done sleeping under the stars. She enjoys the sxs and drives it more than I do.

All of the Baja trips with Off The Grid Expeditions are amazing. The owner, Conner, puts on a great trip and they are well supported with guides, mechanics, and spare parts for the CanAm X3.

Your first sentence is why I don't like a lot of organized rides. Everyone seems to want to go as fast as they can all the time. I guess I'm officially old now because even though I do enjoy ripping around at times, I'd much rather slow down and enjoy the scenery. Living in NW Nevada, we have tons of desert to tear around in but also right on the edge of the Sierra's where I prefer to explore.

Lately, I've been looking at trails in Utah and there are a ton of them there too. I'd love to take a longer trip and do what you said but would want someone with a chase vehicle to carry all the luggage and spare parts.

I almost see this as more of a motorhome or trailering trip and just hit different areas. That would give you some flexibility for where you stay. I think trying to travel from area to area with your sxs might be more trouble than it’s worth?

Would you try to coordinate locals or just find them once you get there?

I’m way too much of a ‘planner’ to do this but I’m sure you would meet and see lots of cool stuff. 😁

That was me 😜
Our ride was definitely intentionally a speed run. Like MW said the window was narrow, and we wanted to see how quickly we could comfortably do it. I know @Bpracing1127 had said he was planning ~30 days to do the same ride but with exploring and downtime. Some people do the cannonball run and others do a 1 year road trip. Different strokes 🤙

For trailer and support I was thinking a NASCAR style race hauler with living quarters only room for 2 cars and spare parts and yes I will buy the race hauler
I agree with not having to run the SxS every mile but would try to go off road as much as possible
I figured just hire someone locally to move cars to the next area when needed that reduces the need for chase trucks, but it’s possible someone would want to be a chase motor home or truck as that would be its own adventure

I want to do the peace trail and a few other longer rides..

We do also, Dave. We were planning to do part of it over Veteran's Day, but we've had come complications getting down to AZ in the time planned. Probably going to be closer to Thanksgiving. :(

This is for Anyone that has a better half that is slightly resistant to a multi day ride.

Research FATCO !
Excellent tour group! Very wife friendly !!
We had a group of 10-12 cars and did the high altitude tour in Utah, is was Amazing !
Every morning FATCO sets up tables and a food spread so you can make a sac lunch sammiches, fruit, snacks etc
At this time you also have a drivers meet To review the day.

Our tour was 1 tank of fuel each day!
Every meal and hotel stay was just Great ! I highly recommend FATCO !

If for some reason someone doesn’t want to ride one day they can ride shotgun in the support / chase truck. They haul all your gear in a 27 gallon black & yellow style tote, each person gets to pack a tote.

We met few locals at stops & stores, teen age kids working, responding w/ yes sir / yes mamm. We drove thru small towns with American flags hanging on the frt porch and big Ol shade trees in the frt yard….

Give FATCO a call !

For those wanting to do the AZPT
You can split it up and run the lower 1/2

I’ve done it 4 or 5 times
The 1st 2 times, we trailered down to Yuma and started/ stopped down there. This creates a issue w/ storing your truck & trailer while on the route.

Last April we ran it w/ just 2 cars and started / stopped in havasu.

Havasu - Quartzite -
This is a short day and we left at 1pm and made it before dark but we did it in April - days were longer.
Quartzite -
Yuma. We stayed Comfort Inn /Fortuna rd.
Yuma - Salome -
long day need to have extra fuel or stop for fuel / fuel stops are very limited ! When arriving at Salome - Cactus Dons is a must stop for a coldie or a cocktail
Salome - Havasu -
you can top off at Wayside Oasis ( Lake Alamo ) area

That is a great run !

AZPT upper 1/2

Leaving from Havasu. You can either -
go back to Salome
Long 1st day / short last day

Or

Head to Kingman -
Short 1st day, long last day

Some of this is a duplicate of the lower half, but there are short cuts to get to Salome - you can get there in a few hours if you take a direct route and bypass Lake Alamo / your going to go thru Lake Alamo when headed north to Kingman

Hope this helps anyone that wants to do the AZPT …

Frank and Misty do a great trip. We‘ve done five trips with them, our favorite being The Bar 10 one.

Bar 10 is a cool destination. Our planned trip got cut a little short last year due to some mechanical issues. It was still a really good time. (Non fatco)

I'm sorry I don't have a link, but a couple years ago I watched a video about three old guys and a dog that drove SXSs across the country taking the whole summer to do it. The video was amateur but the story was really cool. They just plodded along stopping along the way at all sorts of interesting places. They had to do some major repairs along the way.

I think the trip should be well planned but I think if an opportunity came up the ability to change plans on the fly should be a option and busy areas should be done mid week
I just spent a week on Palomar mountain helping with a forest management operation Monday through Thursday nobody is there Friday I started seeing some tourist showing up I was told Saturday and Sunday it is a zoo of people
I spent 30 minutes in the road at the corner of s6 and s7 and no cars came past me that was right across from the general store and the restaurant
So I’ll bet that a lot of off road destinations will have a similar traffic patterns this was 2 weeks ago so summer time maybe different
The peace trail sounds like a good idea so I have my first must do on the list thanks Dave

I've done the peace trail from Parker to Yuma, i liked Parker to the Hualapais better
Agreed, Up into the Hualapais is an awesome ride.

We did Yuma to Alamo
Alamo to Moss Wash, up to the ridge of the Hualapais and then ran the ridge back to Alamo
Then back to Yuma the next day
(FYI, Moss wash is slow going with some waterfalls you have to climb)

That to me was way more fun than Yuma-Quartzite-Parker-Havasu which have done before as well.

Alamo is also a great hub. The cabins are nice enough and let you have a fire and the wayside cafe has cold beer and decent food. They even stayed open a little late for us one night when we got back after dark. 👍

edit- Moss wash, not Maggie. Past gold king mansion

Seems like a cool dude in his videos and meets up with people along the way who travel along with him for a few days if they can’t do the whole route. Pretty sure the group even has lots of route guidance to help bypass areas that don’t like SXS driving through their states, counties, etc. I feel like he’s based in AZ maybe Phoenix or Tucson. A few years ago a couple people even traveled from the Atlantic to the Pacific and shared their journey too.
