Let me start by saying sorry if this is an VIN and about being a jet ski thread.
I have been thinking about buying a new sxr 160 I found one close to home for 11,300.
Just curious what everyone thinks about the ski. Any and all opinions are appreciated . These skis seem hard to find by me and if someone has one that’s all they are allocated for the year. I am looking to go and cruise not race our act like a fool like I may have done in my younger years. Thanks for any input

They’re tanks but great to cruise around. My uncle has a 1500 it’s too easy to ride I have a couple 550s and like them more for bouys.

But he’s happy with his 1500

Awesome thank you guys for the input. I’ve had a couple 550 and a 750 I really loved but life happens and had to get rid of them. My son is turning 11 this week and runs our seadoo like a pro was hoping this could be a stepping stone to get him into stand ups because of the ease riding the bigger ski but the 60 mph speed kind of scares me even though when I was that age that would have just put a smile on my face lol.

Funny what we did in our teens and now we stop and think about our kids following.

I’d also look for an sxr800 or newer 2stroke superjet as well. Personally I like the 2 stroke just because of ease to work on. My daughter when she was 14 came up and asked if she can try riding my 550 I right away said no I’ll buy you your own lol. Found her a nice 94 550 reed for 2k. I have a 90 piston port but been ported and mild mods it’s quick. But nice to get her on a ski and she enjoys it.

I had one in early 90s sold it after it broke in 94 then in 2016 at needles saw about 20 of them riding down river and it brought back flashbacks told my wife what I saw she said your not buying another right? went and bought my current one few months later lol.

This jetski talk has nice timing.
Apparently my C5,6 and 7 are toast.

Good times though!

My son is 11, and I told him recently that I wanted to get us standups. Was thinking a 440 for him and a 750+ for me. Tricky part is living at lake Mead which has a ban on 2-stroke pwc’s (apparently, though I have seen many in the last couple of years). But we enjoy the Blythe and Needles parts of the river.

I rode from Needles marina back to Site 6 with a big group around that time, I wonder if you saw us? We had a couple X2's and a pontoon as a chase boat with fuel. I'll see if I can find some pics

Buddy and I (in our 50's) have been riding stand ups for a long time. We had beater 650 and 550 that we rode early mornings from Echo to the dam and then to Fox's for a morning beverage. I was wanting to upgrade but we could never really justify the costs as our old school rides got the job done. At the beginning of last summer I had an opportunity to ride the SXR 160 and the new SuperJet 4 stroke. Both super fast and fun to ride. The SXR is a tank.... But it goes 60 mph and blasts through rough water with no issues. The SuperJet is not as fast and not as stable. If you are looking to cruise like you mention, you will not be disappointed with the SXR 160.

There is a group of guys that ride year round at Parker on them. One of them is in Echo with me. He is my age and when I was picking his brain he convinced me that the ski is perfect for "retired riders" like my buddy and I. I found two for sale at Big River and buddy and I bough them. No buyers remorse. We absolutely love them. They put a big grin on our faces when ever we ride. No longer limited to riding early morning for glass like we did on the old skis. The big SXR can take the rough afternoon Parker Strip water with easy. Hit me up if you ever want to take a ride and you are near Echo.

Consider getting him an SXR 800. They are fast but still lighter in the water than the new 4 strokes. You can ride them in rougher water than the 550 / 650 / 750’s. Not sure what market is on them now I like mine.

I have collected a few over the years.
* 2006 800 JSU build (heads, factory pipe wet, carbs reeds, pump plate) it rips
* 2007 800 Stock
* 2009 800 Pipe / plate pretty stock
* 2004 1100 SXR conversion triple
* 2021 Yamaha SuperJet 4 stroke - nice ride and fast but my boys 13-15 like the 2 strokes
* 1992 550 2 stroke - fun to put my boys on them. I weigh 190 and it just does not feel the same as it did when I rode them as a kid.

I have a 1500SXR, big, but still way more fun than a sit down. The power and stability are awesome and can still carve some turns. My 15 year old daughter has been riding it for years, she is hooked on stand ups now. I bought her a 550 so I can ride the 1500.
