Supercat West Schiada question

Just got back, saw this in one of the v drive schiada’s. What’s this valve do?

Diverts water into the ballast tank in the bow. Used to flatten out the water for ski racing. Not the cleanest set up I have seen.

I was thinking maybe something like that?
But pictured a much bigger line diameter in my mind

My ski race Hallett Vector took the discharge, water from the intercooler and by passed it to the ballast tank. With a -16 pickup it filled the forty-gallon tank pretty quick. My valve was pretty well hidden and actuated with a lever next to the drivers seat attached to a morse 33c cable. The valve and plumbing were not exposed like the above photo.

@schiadastan cleaned it up substantially on later model boats.
