I'm just getting into paddleboarding and am looking for a board that is reasonably priced - I want something decent, but don't want to spend $1200 for the board.

For the RDP'ers who are into this, what do you guys think of something like this board for sale on EBAY?

$800 for a 12' board, carbon paddle, and leash.

Good deal, or piece of crap?

Good Deal although its not much of a begginer board that board is built for speed and someone who is a little more familiar with paddleing. If your just starting out you definitely want something 11' 4" to 12' but a little wider than the one you are looking at.

I can't help you with a good deal on a board, but you might be interested to know that Lake Havasu is having their first-ever "Paddlefest" at Lake Havasu State Park (Windsor) on November 16-17-18. I hear there will be a poker run, fishing tournament (for kayaks), SUP races and a parade/photo session under the London Bridge as part of the activities. Admission and parking are free (there is a nominal fee to participate in the events). Might be a fun time for all you "paddlers." There's a website -- http://www.lakehavasupaddlefest.com

Thanks - What do I look for in a board? I am definitely a beginner, but don't want to get something that I will grow out of once I get the hang of it.

I'll check out supatx.com

Thanks all - I will look into the suggestions here - I understand that the more expensive boards are probbaly worth the extra $$$, but since I'm a newbie and will mostly just be going on lakes I want to keep the price closer to the $800 range instead of $1k plus.

Had a couple of wave storms form costco, there cool becasue there soft, light and don't ding, plus there easy to haul around...If your not too serious these are more then sufficient to have fun on and can resale very easy and there cheap about 450 bucks.

Are the wave storms inflatable or fiberglass? I've been told to stay away from inflatables.

Wave storms are foam. Like a soft top surf board or a giant boogie board. Its durable with a plastic laminate bottom. They are hard to track down as Costco doesnt carry wave storm SUP anymore. If you live in the LA area go to Action WaterSports in Marina Del Rey. They have the best selection and carry a ton of foam ones as well. I bought a foam one for around our boat in the marina for 400 and an aluminum paddle for 100.

Greco is a great deal too a few of my friends have them. http://www.grecosurfboards.com/surf/

If your a beginer and plan on having it around docks, boats, and kids you cant beat the soft board option. if you get more into it, spend the money than and get a nicer board. Thats what i did and have a riviera and a carbon paddle. I let friends use the foam one.

I looked and I looked around for a while. I didnt want to spend the money either... however when i found i was going to settle for a board at $800, it seemed logical to spend a lil bit more on a board I liked better and would not grow out of right away.

lots of things to think about...
where will you be using it most, what type of water conditions? flat water/lake, rough water ocean? will you paddlesurf or just paddle? the options seem crazy and the prices are endless.

Here is what I found and I bought 2, couldnt be happier with em. cost me about $1k each. I bought mine from the Dana Point store which may be close to moving if not already, but the have another store in costa mesa.:D paddlesurfwarehouse.com
